Good points, Patrick. I feel like the attitude of many designer houses is, "Well, I guess we have to put out another fragrance. Our last one has been out for a whole 3 months now. Ugh..." I don't feel that they're looking to create the "Next Big Masterpiece." Just one that's "decent." Oh, well. This is my first time seeing one of your vids. Thanks for your thoughts. *subscribed*
@logantrky Thanks for the sub! I'd much prefer quality over quantity. It appears they are finally starting to slow it down. Here's to hoping there will be something descent for Fall 2011.
I recently started working at a men's fragrance counter and this was very interesting and informative for me, as I don't have a big background in fragrances. One of the first things I noticed was the terribly similar naming employed by certain companies. However, one of the most annoying things for me has been the over-designing of the bottles to the point that they are at times nearly impossible to spray efficiently or effectively.
@Frunkinator Let's see. Still liking Gucci Guilty & Hermes Garden on a Rooftop. Also wearing Dan Tes Bras. Fresh Attitude from Givenchy is now in season again for me. Thats about it for now. Should I do a vid about my current top 5? Do peeps care about that kinda video? Thanks!
Definitely agree...releasing more than 1 or 2 at a time is overwhelming and most people lose interest. Plus, I never understood the concept of layering. If you can make something better by layering it, the company should redo the fragrance to smell like that instead. When I buy a bottle, I want it to be the best possible scent they could create. I shouldn't have to add this or that to make it better.
Awesome video, as always. As YouTube reviewers come and go so quickly, I appreciate your dedication. We lost some great veteran reviewers lately and I'm glad we still have you around. Love your bitch-fests! Keep em coming!
@MikeNY911 Thanks for the great feedback! I do not do as many reviews as I used to but I have not come across anything new that I love that is worthy of a review.
@TheSnooc12 Yeah not all the fragrance that play the name game smell bad. I like one of the Allures myself. Just can't remember which one it was. Just kidding. For me it would have to be the first Allure.
I do have Musc Ravaguer & Dan Tes Bras from frederic Malle. I have not tried Bigarade yet. I kinda based what I looked for off what I put into the Scentsa and recommendations from Tyler the Fragrance Junkie. Malle was so overwhelming.
Great vid Patrick. I agree with you 100%. The mainstream industry has it all wrong and whoever is in charge should be fired. I often wonder what the hell they're thinking when I see what they're producing and showcasing. You should really contact these failing labels & give them your input & how their actions are hurting sales and the industry. They actually might listen!
@FragranceJunkie I know some companies are watching especially in recent months. That's a conversation for another time. If they can't put something out that is great then just don't put it out. I'd rather see something new that is great every 12 to 15 months versus something weak every 6 months. Thanks Tyler!
For Chanel, the name was given according to the formulation of its fragrances. Do check it out when you see their fragrances tester, as it is printed at the back of most Chanel fragrances bottle.
Allure Range Male/Female = Multi Facets Note
(Chanel claim that this kind of note is unique to the wearer as it doesnt have much of top, middle & base note)
Chance Range = Constellation Note
(This note is ever changing, from one note to the other & keep changing as the day go by) Hope this help.
I agree with you. But I also think that companies such as D&G or R L may be restricted in terms of budget. So in this case they compromise on the quality of the fragrance and concentrate their efforts on the presentation and marketing and try to release six generic smelling fragrances instead of one good fragrance. I dont think it's marketed towards a person with a trained nose rather than towards somebody that just wants a fragrance and has options to try more than one from the same line.
And lot of frags get bought even if they don't know what to do with it. If you're a hot nose at the moment and you have had a few hits out, your formula can get picked up even if it wasn't commisioned. But will it get a new branding behind it? No, that's why you have a Kouros and a Body Kouros - two completely unrelated frags. Tons and tons of flankers come about this way...
But it's still not as sad as the celeb frags scene is. But getting there surely.
The reason for the number of scentwise unrelated flankers is simply because lauching a new line is insanely expensive for a mainstream desginer label that's sold worldwide in every dept store etc. Flankers are a cheaper option, you just buy mostly print ads, send out sample stands to retailers - it's not like making tv ads and putting big ads to billboards, bus stops and so on...
I so completely 100% agree with you! The DG fragrances DEFINITELY just confused and intimidated people. Ppl who don't care much for fragrances don't want to spend time on things like that.
And the Fuel For life denim is a definite true flanker because it is VERY similar and just lacking the leather note. :) Thanks for the shout out!
"Eau, no. not again." Funny!!!

If they gave it a new name they'd have to do a new marketing campaign.
