  • Both John norum as well as kee marcello are hugely underrated, shame for such insanely great raw talent. There is no denying they are as good as or even better than some of the worlds more better known guitarists. Live in Nalen stuff was quality ;)

Wished Norum stayed in the band 1987-1992

  • JOHN NORUM IS A GUITAR HERO!!!

  • I have only recently found out about this guy. He is great. He reminds me a lot of Malmsteen, but in many ways has more depth in his playing than Yngwie (though Malmsteen is still great))). I will be listening to this guy a lot in the near future.

  • Norwegian power!

  • @MarshallATV what ? europe is frpm sweden last time I checked anyways ...

  • @warhammerIII Well, maybe the person was referring to the fact that John was born in Norway.

  • @Maltushka He was ? did not know that , you learn somthing new every day until the day you die :)

  • Simply GREAT!

    Just Norum.

  • @rov220

great staccatto riffing as well as liquid sustain !!! this is tons of tone & melody......

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Why Kee out is the Europe ?

Godd idea was Jonh e Kee at Europe

    Thanks for video

  • Kee didn't like the idea of 2 guitarplayers in Europe, and i agree! But both of them are my favourite guitarists.

  • glad u discovered europe.. ad get john's solo albums..u'll be stunned

  • John Norum is amazing! I never got into their music that much back in the day, just heard the few songs the radio stations played.. but after I saw this video compilation, I ordered the double live DVD set off eBay that night. They are so much better these days, without the poofed up hair and glam look. They look more like METAL musicians now instead of pretty boys.. and John Norum is unbelievable. Definitely one of the most unknown guitar talents out there. Thanks for posting this video!

  • Grrrr!!!! Hair-metal FTW! RAAARGGHH!!! The Hair will come for you! And not in peace! Grrr

    :p

    Love Europe!

  • They are still great.... But their previous look - it was something! i liked it! :)

  • cncdolphin: U should listen to their second album "wings of tomorrow".

Especially the song "scream of anger". U will like it!!!

  • GOD of guitars

  • yo guys, there should be a V-3,with john norum, timo tolkki and the king yngwie malmsteen.V-3 meaning VIKINGS.just like joe satriani, does a G-3.tell me what u think but pls do not kill me on thi idea

  • yo guys this guy is the most underrated guitarist around.can do it all.love to see him do a g3 with joe satriani,he is that great no doubt about it.love the way he shreds the guitar with feeling.

  • good , very good !!!!! thanks !

  • i should say that i agree!!! norum is one of the best guitar hero!

  • Oh yeah. He is the best

  • felicitaciones jonh norun creo que te va mucho mejor con goran que con joey, best song

  • He is the best !!!

He is a Guitar GOD !!

Norum - I love you SO damn fucking much !!! <3<3<3<3<3<33333

  • John Norum is unbelievable.. anyone who is a fan of guitar playing owes it to themself to pick up their Live From The Dark DVD. This is a live concert from a 2004 performance at London's Hammersmith, and Norum is beyond words to describe. Their 80s image should be wiped clean, and reevaluated after this performance. I've watched the DVD at least ten times and their live work is so much better than the studio work from back in the day... a must have for metal fans!

  • norum is one of the most underestimated guitarplayer out there.. he deserves more cred!

  • Good job to put this together... the clips.

Anyone who like this... its from there Live-DVD. John is so good!

  • hey what song is that soft ballad around 3:24 beautiful song

  • It's not a ballad, this is a slower and melodic part of a heavy song called "Start From The Dark" from the album of the same name from 2004, their comeback album.

  • actually it's from the song Flames. ;) Start From the Dark sounds different and even more nostalgic than Flames does. ;)

  • He is a fucking god!!

    Sweden forever <3

    SVERIGE <3

  • @6:51 he just goes to another level...this fucking guy rocks....schenker protege all the way!

  • anyone know why he now stands on the left hand side of the stage rather than the right side in the early years?!

  • i noticed it too....but schenker switched from the left side to the right...not sure they do it or if its even significant to their playing....but schenker made the switch going back to when he played with ufo...if you notice in early MSG days he plays on the left side which would your right...now he plays on the right which is our left.

  • if u look at a lot of bands, their lead guitarist is usually on the left - Slash for GNR, Perry for Aero, Hammnett for M<etallica, Keith Scott in Bryan Adsams, the only lead guitarist to stand on the right these days is riche sambora of Bon Jovi - perhaps he likes to be different

  • i have noticed it too, that lead guitarist usually stand in their left side...is there any significance in the where they should stand or where they should be placed?

  • It makes no difference what side of the stage a player occupies. It is a preference thing. John Sykes is a lead player and he has used both sides of the stage in different bands.

  • yeah but i have noticed some on the left but i know it is not important..just asking

  • he did the cheeroke solo much much better then kee marcelo!

  • one of the best in the universion

  • one of the greatest in the world

  • A complete dedication in the loving memory of "Michelle Meldrum" R.I.P.

    We'll miss you!!!

    Rock on, John!!!

  • John Norum is awesome!!

  • Norum is the best guitarist ever

  • John is fucking great !

i have meet him a couple of times and he´s a very nice person too! he is easy among the top guitarplayers in the world.

  • Do you have the solo for "We'll Do What It Takes Together" ?

  • Macovic's mom loves my pubic hair sittin' on her chin ;0)

  • hahaha, funny dude have you lost all your hair, or is it just the women?

  • edy swass, u re just inaprorpiate, write ur b. shit somewhere else, here we're talkin bout john norum, peace.

  • Its so funny how all these pussy hair bands wanna try to look tough now days but they still play like fag rabbits.Europe reminds of me of 1986. Hahahahaha!

  • it is now reason to cut your hair unless you have problems with lice.

Men are born to have hair. Let the lions be.

  • soooooo nice! john norum are EASY one of the best guitarplayers on earth!

  • This compilation of guitar solos is incredible... of the 26,755 times it's been viewed, I know I'm responsible for at least 50 of them lol I can't say enough about this dude, he's definitely one of the best kept secrets from the 80s...

  • Great!

    John Norum rocks!!!

  • just watched the DVD with all these incredible solos, from Live From The Dark.. that was an unbelievable tour! Man I wish I had seen them on that tour, John Norum in unbelievable...

  • I saw E

  • I saw Europe in Holland (Biddinghuizen) and this year I gonna see Europe in Weerd(Holland)I cant wait!

  • He sure does... I let my neighbor borrow my Live From The Dark dvd, and he liked it so much he bought himself a copy too lol John Norum definitely has his own sound, but I can hear other guitarists in his style of playing... the main person he reminds me of is Gary Moore. HEAVY on the bluesy sound, and hitting all the notes clean. Speed where it's needed, holding a note where it's needed.. Eddie Van Halen, eat your heart out! lol

  • NICE! Just bought the Live From The Dark 2DVD set off eBay. Four hours of video in a two-disc deluxe set... sealed still in plastic... 7.99 and 5.95 to ship... Me Happy

  • Obviously this is one of his performances while with Europe, not Don Dokken.. can anyone tell me the names of some of those songs they were performing?

  • I think many of the songs are new. I only recognized one of them and that was Cherokee - 02:30

  • Awesome guitar playing.. Can anyone tell me the name of that song??

  • What song? They played more than one song... lol

  • Ahh, shows how much I know... I'm only familiar with his work on the Up From The Ashes CD with Don Dokken lol OK, what are the names of the multiple songs in this vid?

  • 1. Wings of Tomorrow

    2. Girl From Lebanon

    3. Wake Up Call

    4. Cherokee

    5. Flames

    6. Milano (As Titled on DVD)

    7. Intro of Girl From Lebanon

All of this was on the Live From The dark DVD.

  • Cool! Thanks so much, someone finally answered my question! I'll be completely honest, I've heard "The Final Countdown" a zillion times... and just thought all Europe's music was similar. But this video is a tidbit of some of their incredible music. I'm definitely gonna pursue picking up a copy of that live CD. Much appreciated Seb =)

  • John Norum is my HERO...!! If my fingers would play... a fraction as well as his... I'd be so happy! He's beyond amazing...

Don't forget the guy spinning in circles either haha, Joey's awesome too.

  • John has been a HUGE hero of mine as well since early eigthies. He's a MONSTER with tone and emotion plus chops.

  • figuratively speaking...umm...you can teach someone to play like kirk hammett...but...in order to be playing like john norum you must be born with the feel, and that feel must be picked by the left hand and exude with monster feel from the fingers of the right hand up and down the neck of the guitar. thank god for this guy because until i heard him play all i exclusively listened to was schenker for obvious reasons.

  • your're right

  • This man is 100 percent correct.

  • this guy picks up right where a young michael schenker left off. its obvious he was influenced by the schenkster. he's got the bluesy feel with the mean riffs.

  • belloooooo

  • que puto amo :)

  • great.John plays so well.

  • He's the best on guitar!!!:D

  • together with kirk hammett

  • K.Hammett is nowhere near John Norum. In fact they shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Respect to Metallica, but outside of that band K.Hammett wouldn't be of much use. Trying to be civil I could at least say that, ehrr.. they have very different styles.."Jompa" Norum is just so outstanding in his vein, the rock n'roll vein. I believe that he and Michael Schenker are the only two guitarists left to play with that true "rock-feel". But thank you for your input. Kindly V.

  • I'm sorry but you're not quite right. i agree with your view of michael schenker and the rock'n'roll feeling but you have to see that kirk comes from the bay area and in a team with james hetfield they invented trash metal. john norum is one of the best players, he is very melodic - more than kirk, who is more the fast technician - but he is not of such an importance as the duo hetfield/hammett.

  • metallica didnt invent thrash metal , overkill did.

  • no, metallica did. better read the rolling stone magzine...

  • doesn't matter really who invented trash metal.

it's called "trash" for more than 1 reason.

I don't doubt JN master the techniques Kirk Hammett uses, but it's not all about technique.

Musically I wouldn't give Metallica 5/5 on more than maybe 4 of their songs.

  • dude yes it is all about technique...its what sets you apart from being a backyard plucker to being an axe god.its obvious you have no idea what the hell your talking about so think before you comment. technique personafies greatness. look@brain may from queen..although not everyones favorite but his style and technique is imcomparable.

  • what im saying is being a slash guitarist like hammett is not that difficult playing with feel is the most impressive not to mention musically sound.i cant tell you how many guys ive seen and heard thru the years that just play trash metal but ignore technique.now if you wanna make a comparison to a really impressive trash metal axeman pay homage to dimebag darryl.he can shit all over hammett..as far inventing the sound of metallica i will not argue with you.

  • If hammets strong point is speed than he is way overrated, their are hundreds and hundreds of guitarists with a cleaner faster and harder technique than hammet! And it sounds much much better

  • Hammett is a joke

  • in another destination he was great

  • i'm a big fan of Europe !!!

    check my videos ;-)

  • This guy is one of my unsung heroes, always melodic and uplifting solos. Very inspirational. Don't forget his killer work on Don Dokken's Up from the Ashes!

  • Born in Vardø, Norway, moved to suburb Upplands Väsby North of Stockholm, Sweden when he was 1 year old. Have mainly lived in Sweden and Los Angeles, USA.

  • Don Dokken did great with Up from the Ashes, but Lynch did awesome with Wicked Sensation as well.

  • =,) nästan så man fäler en tår

  • norwegian

  • 1st. song is "Wings Of Tommrrow"

  • listen steve, that is just what we want!!!

  • The first one is ride the wings of tomorrow

Not TOMORROW! THATS A DIFFERENT SONG

  • are you sure the first one is tommorow? i happened to have that song on my computer and that's a ballad with piano.

  • first song is tomorow

  • whats the first song that's shown. the solo is awesome!

  • firsdt song is tomorow i think

  • norum is awesome!

  • awsome playing... but did anyone actually listen to those lyrics? lmao so bad they were actually able to distract me from the awsome shred

  • It pertains to "live from the dark"- dvd, there are great songs!!! and Norum always the best guitar player in the world.

  • he is good but not the best

  • Billyraymae, did a great job with this video, keep it up! Also, John Norum is an Amazing and underated guitarist. I wish Joe and Steve would consider taking out guys like Norum and Lynch or Vinnie Moore out on tour with G3.

  • anyone know why John now favours Les Pauls instead of Fenders? Just curious as he used to play Fenders all the time - personally I prefer the les paul

  • gibson rules, the best ever made guitar, fender too.nice post thanx dude

  • Sweet! Norum is like Schenker and old Gary Moore with a touch of Yngwie all wrapped into one.

  • i agree with you dude.that s exactly his style.

  • So true, perfectly said. This compililation is the BEST on youtube to get GREAT Norum solos! Good job BILLYRAYMAE! Check out Rik Morosini, he's a Norum freak and smokes as well.

  • norum is the best

    great work with his guitar!

    grande john

  • Norum fucking rocks!

  • genial maestro la verdadera guitarra de europe haunque kee marcello lo hizo bastante bien ... pero definitivamente esos solos son manjar para nuestros pabellones auditivos.....

  • you what a
