Both John norum as well as kee marcello are hugely underrated, shame for such insanely great raw talent. There is no denying they are as good as or even better than some of the worlds more better known guitarists. Live in Nalen stuff was quality ;)
Congrats to whomever made this compilation video! John Norum is unbelievable on guitar! I've lost track how many times I've sat and watched this video, just in utter unbelief how he is able to to play such incredible music so effortlessly.. Truly one of the top 10 guitarists in the world!
I wonder how he feels about playing "prisoners in paradise" ... if he thingk that is just as fun as the rest, he wasent in the band when europe wrote that song ?! . playing kee´s solos :P
I have only recently found out about this guy. He is great. He reminds me a lot of Malmsteen, but in many ways has more depth in his playing than Yngwie (though Malmsteen is still great))). I will be listening to this guy a lot in the near future.
John Norum is amazing! I never got into their music that much back in the day, just heard the few songs the radio stations played.. but after I saw this video compilation, I ordered the double live DVD set off eBay that night. They are so much better these days, without the poofed up hair and glam look. They look more like METAL musicians now instead of pretty boys.. and John Norum is unbelievable. Definitely one of the most unknown guitar talents out there. Thanks for posting this video!
yo guys, there should be a V-3,with john norum, timo tolkki and the king yngwie malmsteen.V-3 meaning VIKINGS.just like joe satriani, does a G-3.tell me what u think but pls do not kill me on thi idea
yo guys this guy is the most underrated guitarist around.can do it all.love to see him do a g3 with joe satriani,he is that great no doubt about it.love the way he shreds the guitar with feeling.
John Norum is unbelievable.. anyone who is a fan of guitar playing owes it to themself to pick up their Live From The Dark DVD. This is a live concert from a 2004 performance at London's Hammersmith, and Norum is beyond words to describe. Their 80s image should be wiped clean, and reevaluated after this performance. I've watched the DVD at least ten times and their live work is so much better than the studio work from back in the day... a must have for metal fans!
It's not a ballad, this is a slower and melodic part of a heavy song called "Start From The Dark" from the album of the same name from 2004, their comeback album.
i noticed it too....but schenker switched from the left side to the right...not sure they do it or if its even significant to their playing....but schenker made the switch going back to when he played with ufo...if you notice in early MSG days he plays on the left side which would your right...now he plays on the right which is our left.
if u look at a lot of bands, their lead guitarist is usually on the left - Slash for GNR, Perry for Aero, Hammnett for M<etallica, Keith Scott in Bryan Adsams, the only lead guitarist to stand on the right these days is riche sambora of Bon Jovi - perhaps he likes to be different
i have noticed it too, that lead guitarist usually stand in their left side...is there any significance in the where they should stand or where they should be placed?
It makes no difference what side of the stage a player occupies. It is a preference thing. John Sykes is a lead player and he has used both sides of the stage in different bands.
Its so funny how all these pussy hair bands wanna try to look tough now days but they still play like fag rabbits.Europe reminds of me of 1986. Hahahahaha!
This compilation of guitar solos is incredible... of the 26,755 times it's been viewed, I know I'm responsible for at least 50 of them lol I can't say enough about this dude, he's definitely one of the best kept secrets from the 80s...
just watched the DVD with all these incredible solos, from Live From The Dark.. that was an unbelievable tour! Man I wish I had seen them on that tour, John Norum in unbelievable...
He sure does... I let my neighbor borrow my Live From The Dark dvd, and he liked it so much he bought himself a copy too lol John Norum definitely has his own sound, but I can hear other guitarists in his style of playing... the main person he reminds me of is Gary Moore. HEAVY on the bluesy sound, and hitting all the notes clean. Speed where it's needed, holding a note where it's needed.. Eddie Van Halen, eat your heart out! lol
NICE! Just bought the Live From The Dark 2DVD set off eBay. Four hours of video in a two-disc deluxe set... sealed still in plastic... 7.99 and 5.95 to ship... Me Happy
Obviously this is one of his performances while with Europe, not Don Dokken.. can anyone tell me the names of some of those songs they were performing?
Ahh, shows how much I know... I'm only familiar with his work on the Up From The Ashes CD with Don Dokken lol OK, what are the names of the multiple songs in this vid?
Cool! Thanks so much, someone finally answered my question! I'll be completely honest, I've heard "The Final Countdown" a zillion times... and just thought all Europe's music was similar. Born in Vardø, Norway, moved to suburb Upplands Väsby North of Stockholm, Sweden when he was 1 year old. Have mainly lived in Sweden and Los Angeles, USA.
Billyraymae, did a great job with this video, keep it up! Also, John Norum is an Amazing and underated guitarist. I wish Joe and Steve would consider taking out guys like Norum and Lynch or Vinnie Moore out on tour with G3.
anyone know why John now favours Les Pauls instead of Fenders? Just curious as he used to play Fenders all the time - personally I prefer the les paul
So true, perfectly said. This compililation is the BEST on youtube to get GREAT Norum solos! Good job BILLYRAYMAE! Check out Rik Morosini, he's a Norum freak and smokes as well.
genial maestro la verdadera guitarra de europe haunque kee marcello lo hizo bastante bien ... pero definitivamente esos solos son manjar para nuestros pabellones auditivos.....

Don Dokken did great with Up from the Ashes, but Lynch did awesome with Wicked Sensation as well.

It pertains to "live from the dark"- dvd, there are great songs!!! and Norum always the best guitar player in the world.

Sweet! Norum is like Schenker and old Gary Moore with a touch of Yngwie all wrapped into one.

So true, perfectly said. This compililation is the BEST on youtube to get GREAT Norum solos! Good job BILLYRAYMAE! Check out Rik Morosini, he's a Norum freak and smokes as well.
