i mean i know they have the money to rebuild the engine 100x over but those bearings must be toast after each run! the surge is just painful to listen to
lol lil fanboy get some facts before call ford bullshit. as s1 came out ford had already the escort and sierra cosworth which made 450hp from 2l/4cylinders,s1 with his 500hp from 2,5l/5cylinder is rediculous compared to the fords.audi is a piece of shit with much faked image for dumb tv-kids like you ;)
@161194 well, we can debate if it's "horrible", let's just say it is "unique"...:) but from the technical standpoint it is a dump valve - which is controlling (limiting) safe levels of pressure in the intake manifold.
@tubocaldo i thought that should only sound when throttle is released? it looks to me that it comes when he is not releasing the throttle on straight lines
@161194 you are thinking of a blow-off valve, which releases boost pressure to avoid compressor surge. A dump valve is controlling the pressurized air that is trying to get back through the turbo compressor. The fluttering sound is the sound of this air against the blades of the spinning turbo compressor.
That chirping noise is really annoying, it's gotten to the point of not improving the sound of the car, but masking it. and lol, love the duct tape in the car.
Remember this is MARCUS GRONHOLM driving, 2x WRC Champion and a Finn ! Bloody hell his driving style is so smooth and attack attack attack! Come Back to WRC MARCUS !
Some of you seriously need to go to automotive 101 before attempting to provide advice. The noise you hear is in fact a low off valve (BOV). It sits on the intake side of the turbo. When it senses vacuum the internal piston/valve within the BOV is instantly opened the moment you let off the gas, allowing the charged air an ALTERNATE route to take instead of flowing backwards through the turbo. It can now vent to the atmosphere, which eliminates compressor surge and maintains spool up of the tu
No, it goes back through the turbo. That is the noise you are hearing. It doesn't cause lag because they know how to drive and keep rpms up. Lag is not a factor in most racing but more of a factor in daily driving.
It is however hard on turbos and is not recommended for a daily driver. In other words... don't try this at home.
how does no one no wat turbo wastegate chatter is reeeeally, basically happens from running alot of boost its the turbo eating away at its self but worth it for the sound :P
Man these rally Fiestas are just badass. The Quattro and Stratos and WRX were cool, but come on guys....move into the 2010s. This thing is so hot right now.
I understand how a BOV and back pressure on a turbo sound similar to a novice and that is ok but you are incorrect. This car DOES NOT have a BOV. This is the turbo "fluttering" from back pressure as the throttle plate closes.
If you still are too full of yourself to actually browse youtube for other cases of this same sound then at least entertain us with the make and model BOV this car uses.
I was under the hood of this car the same day it went up this "hill". Were you?
Just drove Pikes Peak Highway last month. The top section is paved now for the first time. I'm not a hillclimb expert but I'm predicting some shattered records this year.
@katmandu699 if ur referring toe the fluttering sound its the blow off valve from the massive turbo when u shift all the built up pressure has to go somewhere and its better if it goes out through a blow off valve than through the turbo where it came from.
@MultiBlam Dont know exactly but I've heard it has to do with the teeth of the gear. They are more thin, than the normal, and when switching gears they do that noise.
@heelandtoe33 The wing makes the car MORE stable at high speeds.
It also makes the car behave far differently with it because of it size meaning that the driver has WAY MORE control not only in high speeds but everywhere. :) More grip on the rear tires as well but that the depends on how heavy the wing is. :p
@StudiosXPS No, I understand the purpose of having a wing, but I don't understand why they have set up the flap of the wing to be almost horizontal. If you look at every other high-downforce rear wing ever designed, there is a LOT of camber and a very high angle of attack courtesy of several elements mounted closely together. What I see here are two slim profiles that would produce very little downforce, despite their span and chord.
@TheOKapal That's exactly my point. Every other car has huge camber in the wing, and a big AOA. This one has a weird low-downforce set-up, and it doesn't make sense. They are never going fast enough to gain much from the low drag. Personally, I think it was set-up by someone that knows a lot about suspension or engines, but hardly anything about aerodynamics.
Reduces drag, doubles the effective downforce without a massive wing resulting in huge drag figures.
I'd guess lower wing kicks up the air following the line of the roof, upper wing probably is to maintain downforce at higher speeds when the air is being less deflected down the roof line. Its a similar sort of idea to the double deck diffusers in formula 1 (which are now banned - as they made driving the car too easy as it was so good as generating downforce)
@Joey2911 (1) Reducing drag isn't much of an issue at Pikes Peak. Look at Millen's car. Look at the Audis, Peugeots, Toyotas and Suzukis that have run there... you think they're wrong with their set-up? They all got records... (2) Double-diffusers don't work how you think they work. By having a hole in the floor of an F1 car, linked to an expansion chamber (upper diffuser), it creates a low pressure zone around the hole in the floor. It doesn't act like a bi-wing.
Cool, I was just guessing, but thanks for the info. Don't follow Pikes Peak so don't exactly know what the requirements are. If you find out why they use a bi-wing then please do tell, it would be interesting to find out.
@TheGrinningSkull Nope, sorry, checking another vid, time (Rhys Millen), taking his time at 12.16 minutes, doing same calculations and average speed is around 61.3 mph. Still faster than the national speed limit haha :P
