@dtlp76 Looks like a bunch of hating know it alls in here...what's funny is they clicked on fly wheel removal cause they obviously were having problems doing it themselves
really only a couple things that would cause you to lose compression , blown head gasket is the first , you broke a ring or punched a hole in your piston , or spark plug is loose , are you getting any blow back out of any vent holes in the case?
hey i wanna know if you can lose compression of your engine when your expansion chamber is loose (the spring broke) my bike has virtually no compression its a yz100 it feels like a kickstarting scooter almost
It works, no question about that. If you don't have time to wait for the week long shipment, or the 30 dollars for the puller, this may work wonders, but it could EASILY damage your motor.
@Trulakobila and lets say you are sitting in your garage with not a penny in your pocket and you need to get your ped running so you can go to work, but alas you have no flywheel puller and couldn't afford the $15 to buy one because the economy sucks and its hard enough putting food on the table for you 3 kids and the wife is sick with a rare decease and the only way to get her to the hospital is with your moped , would not a rubber mallet be a good alternative ? HMMMMM

But if it is that kind of situation, I'm sure you don't have a health care insurance, so you might as well stay home and repair your wife with that mallet :)
you cant damage the magnets i used a gear puller to remove mine and it bent it out like i was putting the flywheel inside out then bent it back with a sledge hammer works fine
@gammafboi Ok on the really old models 1970-72 some of the flywheel magnets are screwed on and you could I suppose damage them , the newer models the magnets are bonded to the inside of the flywheel and cant be harmed look at the inside of your fly wheel and you tell me do you really think you can do damage to the magnets with a rubber mallet
Ok so now its been 3 years , and yes I have a puller now just because it is alot easier to use . BUT when your in a bind and have no where else to go this method will work in a pinch. I have done this on a whole crap load of puch mopeds and have not done damage to any of them . so yes it is wise to get a puller from Treats HQ they are inexpensive and well worth the money, but when your stuck , for all you doubters out there this will work just have patience ! and have fun thats what its allabout
Did this one a 1977 ciao flywheel. Took quite a few pretty hard hits - but it comes off. Just take a couple of whacks turn the wheel 1/2 turn then a couple more wahcks and keep going
dont be stupid! you are not going to bend a half inch of solid steel with a frigin rubber mallet , I put an old crank in my vise and beat it with a 5 pound sledge and all it did was make marks in the metal, sheeesh! dont comment unless you know what your talking about , besides if you dont trust the method dont do it , 22,000 people have watched this video
Yeah, don't be stupid! Your not going to bend a half inch of solid steel with a rubber mallet.....................you're going to fuck the bearing instead!!
@coda95 no you wont !! again its a hardened steel case with harded steel ball bearing you CANT HURT IT ! you may break the case if you wak it with a big enough hammer but you wont damage the bearing or crank
dude i was pulling the flywheell on my 82 cm250 honda for the first time ever and i didnt have a impact so i was turning the puller with a wrench and i couldnt turn the damn thing no more and still didnt come so i got pissed and started hammering on the fucker and pop it came right off lol
I need a new fly wheel actually. its been cracking and making a lot of noise when i start my car. I have a jeep cherokee and i wanna replace the engine anyway. has about 400,000 miles on it lol.
if i Buy a rebuilt engine i wouldnt need to buy a new fly wheel would i?
us dummies have seen the results of using hammers instead of the correct puller. magnets knocked loose, broken crankshafts, damaged threads. if youre going to do it do it right.

Jesus Christ, there are tools for that, you don't use hammer for everything, even if it's a rubber hammer.
