  • I love the whole sound of this song, reminds me how booming computers were in public interest. When computers were just starting to connect around the world.

    I miss the early 90's :(

  • Gotta find an extended version of this.

  • the best star-up of Windows

  • Windows 7 can't even have the music like this... THE MOST COLORFUL WINDOWS IS WINDOWS IN 1990s until XP. They all have special music in each edition!

  • Windows 98 for damn sure had a rocking theme song.

  • it was so awesome back there, i didn't click "don't show it ti me again" or whatever for really long time+)

  • Oh no... I've got a disabled brother that tottaly lol'ed with this music. First, he set the sound blasters to max. Then he starts the "welcome to windows 98" thing and then he makes a run. I've got scared to shit multiple times by this theme! Hearing BOINGGGGG dadadaddum ddada dumdum trough your living room...

Now I can laugh about it =D

  • "WELCOM98.wav - yes, it's misspelled like that"

Actually, it's supposed to be like that. Back in the day, they couldn't have filenames longer than 8 characters, plus 3 for the file extension (hence "8 dot 3" naming") so they just took off unimportant letters.

I wonder if my old worn out hard drive still works well enough for me to boot up win98...

  • For whom the bell tolls?

  • BECAUSE OF THIS. I DECIDED TO TURN ON MY WIN 98 DESKTOP... HADNT BEEN TURNED ON IN LIKE 5 YEARS

  • Does anybody here know of a 3-Note log on sound in Windows 98SE? I do not have my 98 PC anymore and it always started with it.. i miss it :(

  • Woah dude! It's 1999 all over again! This works great on my bitchin Thunderbird Athlon process. Dude 1.1 GHZ (yes that's right MEGAhertz)! with a 64MB AGP video card, 700MB of RAM, and a case that has PLEXIGLASS panel so you can see inside it!! My system is soooooo 1337!

  • i remember grooving to this when i was in fourth grade.

  • this was the jam.

  • This brings back memories.

  • Wait...what?

Dude...I thought you just put this over top of a picture. This short song was specifically made for starting up Windows 98 for the first time?

  • Yeah, after you booted it up, a little window came up to help you get started and show you some of the new features in Windows 98, and whenever it came up, so did this song.

  • Where can I get the sound file?

  • have you seen the easter egg in windows 98 with the credits? it plays the same music.

search for You_are_a_real_rascal and see what happens.

  • i remember this one from my old Windows 98... almost my whole family, back then, had at least one or two computers with Win 98 on it. now, we all have Windows XP. i tried Vista on our laptop, but other than all the cool features it has, it was CRAPPY! lots of bugs! too many! i hope Windows 7 is better. T.T

  • I remeber this from my dads old hp pavillion and his old e machines etower.

  • I still remember this when our computer first got delivered back in either '99 or 2000 me and my mum jumped a foot thinking we had messed something up aswell as going through all the options on that box that came up when this music played trying to figure out how to get onto actual windows

  • I just jizzled my pants =(

  • Cool beans, brah.
