  • 8:32. I love this movie and I love this sequence... but I just noticed Monty Jr totally ogling his Mom. They're probably the same age in real life... he's probably planning to hit on her during a cut. "Hey baby, whassup".

  • @mcgurkryans I'd like to ogle your mother.

  • masterpiece

  • man, i was so happy when the film ended like that! spike lee tells his stories with such amazing compassion for the less fortunate, i love that man. the best filmmaker america has today.

  • @georgetheonlyporge You know he went to prison in the end, right?

  • @MadparkWorld he did not, my friend. it's one of my all-time favorite movies, so just take my word. a most beautiful happy ending considering what it was all building up to. Spike Lee is a genius.

  • Contrived and syrupy ending destroyed the film.

  • @MrRazorblade999 i dont think u know what's going on here, the life the old man described is what he dreamed for his son, but it never happened, it'd just his idea. his wish, but nothing but a fantasy, a place in time that never existed and never will exist, the 25th hour of his day.

  • @hadjy Yes I know. So what?

  • Face healed up quick

  • ...Best 10 minutes...i ve seen in many years!!! WHAT IF....

  • I love it too. Thanks for sharing.

  • Отличная музыка, великолепный фильм

  • when i first saw this i thought it was really happening

  • I haven't seen this masterpiece of a movie in quite some time. Someone please correct me, but wasn't Natural the one who informed on Monty to the police?

  • @JohnGolbunny No, it was Kostya.

  • @acoster Costa Rica?

  • @JohnGolbunny no...he was led to believe it was, but it was not.

  • @JohnGolbunny is it important? I don't think so. Can you tell me please what kind of story is this for you? Is it a police story or a drama? Anyway the fat man informed the police, not Naturelle.

  • Its' a beautiful country. A reflection of the earth and the souls,

  • So close, to never happin...g

  • This movie is absolutely fucking great!!!

  • Great movie great Norton great Lee great ending!

  • SPIKE LEE IS A GOTDAMN GENIUS!

  • @HueyFreeman3000 Yeah he is. But with decades of film making under his belt what do you expect. I've only had my engineering degree for three years and I figure it'll take me about another ten to become an actual master, someone worthy of being called "teacher".

  • im in this movie...im the little girl in the girls lap on the right

  • "your mother's a lunatic.. hurry up i need company"

Is it sad that this ending stirs up feelings about my ex? so close but never happened.

  • This is a sequence, not a scene. Jesus.

  • i love brian cox voice, beautiful scene brilliant movie

  • the greatest scene from this movie :) Happy Birthday Ed!

  • Anybody know where the music is from? OR is it made specially for this movie?

  • @Takkiem It's original music from the film by Terence Blanchard.

  • thats how you end a fucking movie! Bravo, Bravo!!!!

  • Most probably recognize this but this scene is an awesome take on the short story 'An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce. The Twilight Zone episode is pretty sweet, but this take on it in 25th hour hits something deep in me...its a tough film to watch. Great movie.

  • This is the best ending in a movie I've ever seen.

  • yeah start new life and it's so hard to do it but it's help

  • One of the best endings ever!! awesome movie! :)

  • Anybody knows the brand of the car where they in ?

  • @mesut4747 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 1986..

  • One of the best endings to any movie i've seen in a long time. Brian Cox is magnificent. Bruce Springsteen - The Fuse :)

  • anybody know the music pls ?

  • @boobysharky

  • @boobysharky

Terence Blanchard - 25th Hour Finale

  • One of Spike's best!

  • there should be a sequel to 25th hour, like to know what happned to edward nortons character after he gets out of jail and see how he views the world.

  • @MrRamirez787 honestly....its better if you dont know...because the ending is awesome..and you can only guess what the ending is...and that is priceless

  • Love this scene. I was intrigued with comments like "at the end you see they have allready passed the GW bridge. extremely sad ending"

I found that very interesting since I didn't notice that. However, if you google directions from Manhatten / NYC to Otisville, the best route is via GW Bridge. It's 20 miles out of the way to go to Otisville via Tapanzee bridge. Unrelated note, if you liked this flick, check out "Sucker Free Ctiy" by spike lee hard to find but well worth the search!

  • for anyone whos wondering, it obviously was all a dream. at the end you see they have allready passed the GW bridge. extremely sad ending

  • The scene is enhanced by a combination of the narration, the snippets, and the music. And the extreme love of a father for his son- no matter what. Brilliant ending.

  • when naturelle gets off the bus some dirt got in my eyes.

  • @OntarioPrepper 7 years is nothing. its not like youre getting life

  • @dafuksup I love all the e-tough guys. 7 years is nothing? Let me guess, you aren't even 21 yet are you?

Listen kid... on a 7 year stretch in state prison your scrawny little white ass would 100% be getting passed around and you'd be giving head to all the brothers within a day. You'll be washing their laundry and cleaning their cells as well.

You come across as a complete moron saying "7 years is nothing."

  • @JohnGolbunny dude stfu, you been watchin too many movies. im sure you wish you got "passed around" you weirdo, thats probably one of your many gay fantasies. and im not some skinny little bitch like you or edward norton, i weigh 200 and bench over 300 bro. tell me why you would run looking over your shoulder both ways your whole life when you can do the hard 7 and be done with it then start fresh? you must be a coward if you think running away and hiding is the best solution

  • @dafuksup Thanks for confirming you are an immature moron. You are laughably stupid. Oh, so you can bench over 300lbs?! Bro you'll be running the joint in no time!

I also notice you didn't answer my question so now we know for sure you are some imbecile teenager who is trying to be some e-hard ass talking about a 7 year state prison term is nothing to him because he can bench over 300lbs hahaha.

Get lost you fucking jackass. I'm done with you now.

  • @JohnGolbunny dude youre the fuckin jackass, youre just jealous that im strong and youre a weak little pussy. if you ever went to prison with me you would be my fuckin bitch and i would have you doin my laundry then i'd pimp you out to all the faggots and theyd pass you around like a dirty magazine.

  • @dafuksup Didn't I dismiss your stupid monkey ass in my last reply? Little boy, that means I'm done with you. That means I completely shut you down and exposed you as some wana be tough guy claiming 7 years in state prison is nothing. That means no more replying. Now get lost you fucking pussy.

  • @JohnGolbunny lol, you cant handle losing the argument, can you? just give up, you lost. and "little boy"? dude i weigh 200 and im 25 years old so im probably older than you are. stop trying to act like youre so old and wise when youre probably still a virgin in high school.

  • @dafuksup Haha, I just have to say, if you're having an argument in the comments section, no matter what, you already lost!

  • @dafuksup Oh, one last thing, I guarantee I can out bench you EASILY by 100lbs. You scrawny little pussy. If you want to take me up on this challenge, let me know.

One last thing: Your mother is a filthy, disgusting, pig faced whore and I shoot pulpy loads of semen down her throat. Ok?

  • so what happens does he actually go to jail or does he run away? i hate this ending, because this is honestly the most ridiculous advice ever given. its easier to just be a man and do the 7 year jail time not run away and live a fake life like a faggot. i assume he went to jail but they shouldve clarified that more

  • @dafuksup he did go to jail; when his father is done explaining what could have been, you can see they're almost at the jail

  • so is the whole running away thing a dream he had while on his way to prison???? please reply :(

  • Spike is so underrated. So many great moments in this one movie alone.

  • One of the greatest pieces of film ever done. I tear up EVERY time I watch that. Wether you are a Spike Lee fan or not that movie is amazing.

  • One of the greatest pieces of film ever done. I tear up EVERY time I watch that. Wether you are a Spike Lee fan or not that movie is amazing.

  • Brian Cox is great in the movie. He plays a smaller role, but you can just see the love he has for his son. A lot of heart. Beautiful movie.

  • fabulous final scene...i think it is my favourite of all movies. "This life came so close to never happening..."

  • @dubsnapper1 Mine too. Every scene is potent. The acting plus the directing equals a truly amazing movie

  • This all came so close..

  • @Dactuck If D'antoni is the coach., grief is the pillow. WHATT

  • No.

  • There are actually 2 dislikes....REALLY? You have got to be f en kidding me.

  • its crazy how what he hated and complained about most is actually what he ended up missing at the end

  • my friend hated this movie........and I still can't figure out why

  • damn his dad is pretty fuckin deep

  • Say what you want about Spike Lee, but damn he knows how to make a good film!!!

  • One of my favorite scenes from any movie, any time. Breaks my heart each time.

  • This perfectly captures the human imagination. We all fantasize about what our life could be- all the directions it could go in. Amazing movie.

  • People do not remember how 'raw' this country was after 9-11. This film reminds us all.

  • @vargas37 Especially raw for us New Yorkers. Long live Manhattan

  • GREAT....

  • Thats the dude from fight club right? every mover he is in is awesome

  • One of my all time personal favorite movies.

  • so at the very end please explain to me ... hes made this new life etc , but then right at then end it goes back to him beaten up in the car driving off , did he make a new life or was that like a dream ?

  • @dipsetno1 ....he was dreaming as his father narrated what might have been had they gone west, watched this for the first time last night, this scene was superb

  • @dermot79 maybe not , i think that is an open ending

  • @dipsetno1 Why the film is called the 25th Hour. It is what could have happened, but never did. It's the extra hour, if you see what I mean.

  • @imnotgivingmynametou ahh thanks for clearing that up man !

  • @dipsetno1 A dream. The American Dream to be specific.

  • watched this for the first time last night, brilliant film. this scene is heartbreaking

  • just saw it on bbc1 .grate film watched it years back was just flicking threw channels and saw it was on.wander if he did go jail all not.

  • @largertrance21 i just saw it on bbc too.he didn't, the end shows he was dreaming whilst being driven to prison, he awakes to a nightmare.great film

  • Brian Cox - Pride of Scotland.

  • @peacefrog1916 Haha weirdly enough first time i watched this was in Scotland (Annon), while traveling ^^

  • i watched this on tv for the first time, and they cut out MOST of the ending, which has made me always think this movie was "eh". but now i know the TRUE ending, and how good it is :) epic movie. Barry pepper and Edward Norton are 2 of my favorite actors.

  • watched this for the first time the other day. such a great film, the ending and music is so powerful.

  • I always thought Spike Lee was a gifted director, but seeing this movie for the first time floored me. I was not prepared to be moved so much by a movie. This final scene is nothing short of magnificent. The entire film was a work of pure inspiration and genius.

  • @Goldentonguedman

    Agreed.

  • 1 mistake is all it takes, and it is gone forever

  • one of my favorite endings to a movie; correction, one of my favorite scenes from a movie, beginning, middle or end. Thank you Spike Lee.

  • James IS a strong name.

  • Epic!

  • "Head out to the middle of nowhere and take that road as far as it will take us"

I love this scene....Sometimes we all just wanna do that.

  • This is the most epic daydream sequence I've ever seen on film. It's really amazing, because we all do this: think about the possibilities of our future. And yes, it gives you the bloody chills.

  • i guess everyone thinks their fathers in that scene.

  • @esraretin I did!

  • @TheLuthien83 i did too.it gave me the shivers(is this sentence true in english? im trying to learn it i guess its an idiom)

  • I know the fucking GW bridge is in the background, but I doubt that the filmmakers intended that to be an indication that he went to jail. Only .0001% of the people watching the movie will know what bridge that was - at most it's an easter egg.

Hell, he could even be dead at the end. He's not moving at all. Or he could be going on the run, like his father said

  • @fidgetingfinch Thanks for this as I was wondering what the pan down from that bridge was about. So the final scene is showing they didn't take the left and went on towards the jail?

  • @fidgetingfinch Except that Spike Lee explicitly stated that there was no ambiguity about the fact that he DOES go to jail.

  • @shuabert Who cares what Spike Lee said? What do you think?

  • The best three scenes in this movie are this one, the Fuck You mirror scene, and the make me ugly scene

Seriously if you watch these scenes and they don't make you feel something you have issues thank you vargas

  • @hurten5151 Very true

  • The best three scenes in this movie are this one, the Fuck You mirror scene, and the make me ugly scene

Seriously if you watch these scenes and they don't make you feel something you have issues

  • Goosebumps.

  • i want a break away from the city life, maybe one day, one day i'll go unnoticed, and start a new life on the country side.

  • i couldnt let my dad leave me life that. it would kill me!

  • the Movie still gives me the emotions. One of the best.

  • A gut wrenching finale with a beautiful score. In my own humble opinion it goes down as one of my favourite films and film scores ever.

  • i dont thin kit would be bad if he goes to jail, maybe the movie wanted to show as that the ideal life can be after the prison, it would be 7 years in hell bu then he will have hi father his friends his dog his wife and a beutiful family

  • Listen to the music when he is getting his picture taken...simply beautiful.

  • This film is a masterpeice. The ending is really depressing because I thought that maybe he'd actually ran when his father said "this life came so close to never happening".

  • Comment removed

  • THis mirrors my life so much it scares me.

  • The ideal life = a fantasy...

  • only the our father love us

    THIS IS THE TRUE

  • That lump in your throat really hurts when you have a sore throat.

  • All credit to Spike.. this ending is really something special. A masterpiece

  • just watched the movie. During these scenes, I couldn't movie. No words to describe what this did to me.

  • the ending is fucking brilliant

  • i can't believe that was only 10 minutes. incredible scene.

  • This is my favourite movie just after "The shawshank redemption".

Almost the same story... 2 men tryin to bury the past, their former life and both headed for peace and freedom. I guess I'm like those 2 men.

Always tryin' to begin a new life. I'm not tough fibred enough to forget evrything for the moment. Maybe one day. But not yet...not yet

    Peace :)

  • I dont get why monty surrendered himself? you really think the feds would come after him? would they fuck.

  • fucking brillant actor

  • I will not sully the greatness of a Spike Lee joint, with your lies. I choose to enjoy.

  • The only reason this movie is underrated...is because Spike Lee can't keep his stupid damn mouth shut with his stupid political opinions! This movie is brilliant!

  • @holdenc96 I have no idea what your gibberish means. Expand upon your ill-begotten thoughts.

  • @Dactuck Explaining something to you must be like trying to explain string theory to a June bug, but I'll try. Spike Lee is known for his racist and overly racial sensitivity. One off the top of my head is that he said blacks are incapable of being racist but they can be prejudiced. Also, he criticized Clint Eastwood for not having blacks in "Flags of Our Fathers." Yet his idiocy in interviews is nonexistent in his brilliant films. People who give him credit if he kept his opinions to himself.

  • @holdenc96 Don't try to talk sense little man. Where were you when segregation was law in this country? Where were you? When minorities were persecuted. Where were you? When Asians, Italians, Afro-Americans, German-Americans were fighting and dying for OUR country during WWII. Where were you? Go to sleep little man.

  • @Dactuck Okay lady!

  • @holdenc96 Agreed. I love this movie (and a fair few others of his), but Spike Lee is a moron.

  • @holdenc96 'prejudice' is an attitude. 'racism' is the expression of prejudice by the ruling class towards its supposed inferiors. this is race theory 101. so spike lee is somewhat correct.

  • When I first saw the ending I thought "Okaaaay going to far here movie" but when I thought about it later it seemed... something else y'know.

  • what is the alternate ending?

  • beautiful ending

  • I really love how the entire scene is offering the illusion of ability to "start over" and then just comes back to reality in the final cut.

  • And yeah this has to be one of the most underrated films of the past decade. I've never seen Ed Norton make such a great performance, not even Fight Club.

  • It doesn´t get any better than this.

  • This scene makes me cry EVERY time!

  • @nostayer You too?

  • I can not believe that someone disliked this... what a dumbass!

  • @bojans88 Maybe they disliked that Monty went to jail? The circumstances are full of dislike, that's what makes it such a powerful movie.

  • Uvek placem na kraju ove scene, omiljeni film zauvek!!!!!!

  • True father - son relation always open up when sheeeeeeeeeiiiit happens... unfortunately...

  • @Sabotaz80xx hilarious

  • I Love this movie, anyone can recomend any movie like it / this good?

  • @fotbollsfanatiker-Try 21 Grams

  • the best possible ending wouldve been him, naturelle, and the kids coming home to their ranch after a family night out to find clay davis sitting inside wearing a cowboy hat " thought you could run away and escape a prison sentence? sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit"

  • @chillmatic LOL! Glad to see another fan of the Wire!

  • I just want to believe he didn't go to prison

  • @MyUtopiaII I want to believe that too, but Monty chose jail...

  • I want to murder the one guy that disliked this.

  • I uploaded the entire film on my account.

  • this is sooo much better than the stupid Hollywood bullshit

  • uno dei migliori film che ho visto...

  • @georgesco94

New Yorkers don't post comments in all caps.

  • Great actors, great script, great director.

  • A film to remember ! These words ... make me shake ... said with passion, and purity ...

  • The first time I saw this to the end it was like a punch in the face. Really effective scene.

  • The entire movie is uploaded on my channel.

  • @DCAUFan Sweet!

  • I never understood the ending. What happens really?

  • @theboondocks01 Well it's not that hard to understand... Just think about it... Monty's father tells him that he can go out in the west, start a new life instead of prison, tells him what could happen. But in the end you can see the car not on the bridge, so after all Monty decides to go to the prison, and be punished for the crimes he committed.

  • @Imiface

Ok kewl. Thats what I thought. Cause I havent seen this movie. I caught in on FX the other day. I saw the last 15 minutes. I knew he was suppose to go to jail for something. In the last shot I couldnt tell if he was going to jail or if he was dead.

  • @theboondocks01 Nothing. The main character goes to jail, because the final scene it's just a possibility, a life that could have come, that came so close to never happening...

  • This movie still gives me the shivers.
