Ranka is definitely singing her heart out here and she does a good job of it, but let's be honest: Sheryl's holding back. There's a marked difference between this duet and, say, Northern Cross or Diamond Crevasse just in Sheryl's singing.

The novle sciries implies that alto sleped with sheryk in what is ep. 22, but this didn't happen in the show (A different storyline) So either one is possible, and the second movie will probably answer the question. @dave19941000 I dunno man, that discretionary pan shot in ep 22 has been a standard for that sort of thing for decades, but semantically it's open to interpretation, since that same night we see Alto outside again (fully clothed) checking his messages, and we never see Sheryl again until she shows up at her concert. Heck, for all we know Sheryl fainted again before anything could happen. That would have been a hilarious scene.
@gaaracherry Oh, as for who wins, it's unknown. The love triangle thus far is completely unresolved. The last scene of the whole series is basically Sheryl and Ranka telling each other that they won't lose. The only thing we can truly be certain of regarding Alto's heart is that he sure does love flying.

I don't mind if people state their opinion that they like RankaxAlto or SherylxAlto, but when they think that they are RIGHT and the opposing side is wrong, that's what bothers me.
There's a reason why Sheryl is so popular. So don't try to use stupid logic to convince yourself otherwise.
1. She's not a homewrecker. Alto never belonged to Ranka.
2. She's not a slut for sleeping with Alto. With that logic, Alto is a bastard because he cheated on 'omg!tru wub!' Ranka.
3. She is not selfish. She told Alto to save Ranka when Alto wanted to KILL Ranka, she thinks of other people's wellbeing.

I really disliked Sheryl at first, but she really grew on me. I think that the banter between herself and Alto is more interesting. Ranka is cute, don't get me wrong, but she just seems a little too childish.

The only thing I have to say is...Sheryl does not force her feelings onto Alto. In fact, in episode 19, she tried to distance herself from him. And, hey, Alto does not have to let Sheryl kiss him. In episode 22, he kissed her so...yeah..
Sheryl's a great singer and she's cool, but it seems like she forces a lot of her feelings onto Alto. He always gets shy and bewildered at her actions. Ranka goes better with Alto because they have a friendlier and easier relationship. They have chemistry :D
It's obvious that he loves BOTH of them, and that he HASN'T chosen. If he did, then I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be commenting on how supposedly Alto confessed. And if he DID choose, there wouldn't be a movie coming out about the whole triangle.

If he WAS annoyed and disliked her, then he wouldn't have had ANY smiles when he was with her. He acted SURPRISED when Ranka started singing, because she's very cute and shy most of the time. And didn't you see that blush on his face, and kept looking at her lips? If he felt absolutely NOTHING for her, then he would have kept only a frown, and a straight face. And, yes I have watched the anime fully. I'm also fed up with Ranka-fans that keeps saying he only pities Sheryl, and sees only Ranka.

The Japanese do things a little bit differently than the rest of the world, but whatever. We'll just have to agree to disagree on the events and what they meant.
I'm white, but half of my friends are Japanese or Vietnamese. Their cultures are considerably different from western cultures, as well as their ideals. Family, honor, love, all is taken more seriously than it is in America or Europe.
You have to remember that this is an anime. It will reflect Japanese ideals, not Western ideals. We can't look at what is presented from our own experiences and ideals. We have to put ourselves in their shoes to understand what's being said or meant.
There's been a few times I've had to ask friends of mine about the meaning of certain scenes because of the cultural differences.
This is all moot anyway. Word on the grapevine, is that the movie is changing quite a few things around so who knows what Macross Frontier: DYRL(what some of us call it) will end up having. lol

I dont' know the pink haired girls name but I know Ranka's, and i like her voice better solo than the other girls. but I love it when they sing together, and then go slight solo, it sounds really good, like when pinkie says two are you lucky or it sounds like that, it sounds good, but not the beginning.
Personally, I hate Sheryl's voice. There's just something really weird about how it sounds- not that she's not a good singer, but it's almost squeaky, without being high, if you know what I mean.
Ranka's voice, on the other hand, is really pure and pretty. The voice actor can hit a lot of notes! :D
I like both voice, but yes, something is awkward with Sheryl's. Ranka's is more natural and Sheryl's is more of the superstar altered voice. That's what I tihnk. But Sheryl's a funny character, even if I like Ranka more.
i thought it was so random that in this part of the series when sheryl starts singing she sings the first couple things in english. i wonder why in animes there are always a couple random parts in english. as far as sheryl vs ranka goes... sheryl is so where it's at, and she always has perfect timing... or the worst timing in some ways :P

Actually Ranka has nothing more than a heavy crush on alto. She made her moves, but she's like a child. She wants selfishly atterntion without giving anything back. With two words she's spoiled and immature. Even if she has the magic of her childish cuteness and all that moe factor she hardly can form any real relationship. She learns awfully slow about her mistakes. At least her love to Alto moved her out of her shelll.

About the romance thing it's true. I wait for the movie for "confirmation. Perhaps the world of the movie an "alternate unniverse" so anything is possible and the pairing in the movie not neccessary true in the TV show. I hope for better Ranka development in the film.
She isn't spoiled, Sheryl is always taking Alto away from her whenever she sees the chance, for example Sheryl finds out about the kiss scene between ranka and alto, so she goes and kisses alto first, just to steal his first kiss from ranka, second on alto's birthday she just HAD to bribe him that he could fly in a never ending sky, so he couldn't meet ranka on the hill T-T..
And she didn't indirectly kill anyone, Macross frontier had her sing.. not her fault. And when she was a child it wasn't her fault her mother was infected from the vajra, passed it onto her without knowing, and just because she sang a song with the virus in her the vajra came.. No one knew... -.-

She might have been a bit spoiled in the beginning but not with her love for alto.. She never gets pampered by him, she is always getting heartbroken because of sheryl. Shes too shy/scared to talk to him about it. For example alto lied and said he wasn't with anyone at the mall, even though he was with sheryl.. refer to the first few episodes
One last thing, Ranka is not spoiled and she never forces anything on alto, so its not exactly just a crush.. She just doesn't want to force him into anything like sheryl keeps kissing him... Its so sad.. Then alto still leans toward sheryl... Another reason ranka probably left to return the baby vajra was because she was so sad from alto..

I think I have at least 1% knowledge about these anime.
I don't really know whom he chooses until I watch it LOL. But for me, love doesn't show just for kiss. It can be a million kiss for the same person but if he feels different then that's a different story.

I don't mind if people state their opinion that they like RankaxAlto or SherylxAlto, but when they think that they are RIGHT and the opposing side is wrong, that's what bothers me.
There's a reason why Sheryl is so popular. So don't try to use stupid logic to convince yourself otherwise.
1. She's not a homewrecker. Alto never belonged to Ranka.
2. She's not a slut for sleeping with Alto. With that logic, Alto is a bastard because he cheated on 'omg!tru wub!' Ranka.

4. Both Ranka and Sheryl are great singers, only with different styles. Both sold well on the Oricon charts. No need to bash either.
You guys are still stuck in episode 10 and the whole Sheryl stole Alto's first kiss while Ranka's looking. Well, both times (episode 5 and 10), Ranka saw the kisses by ACCIDENT. Sheryl never planned for her to see it.

When Michel told him to go find Sheryl or he'd regret it.. he went! When Ranka asked him to goto Formo he went with Sheryl instead! And right before the battle I'm pretty sure he was gonna tell Sheryl he loves her! But SHE wouldn't let him!

I think Alto does love somebody. After all, in the last episode, both he and Brera shout *spoiler alert* at Grace before killing her that "we both have somebody we love!" Brera is obviously referring to *more spoilers* his sister Ranka, but it's unknown who Alto is. I perefer Ranka in my opinion and would like it if Alto chose her, but i can't tell since it was never made clear. *Sighs*

I really disliked Sheryl at first, but she really grew on me. I think that the banter between herself and Alto is more interesting. Ranka is cute, don't get me wrong, but she just seems a little too childish.

Are we watching the same show? Episode 22, it was a MUTUAL kiss. I think you're mistaking it for episode 10.
And episode 24, even if Sheryl kissed him first, he did spend 30 seconds being kissed by her... if he didn't like it, he'd had pushed her away.
At least they had 4 kisses, compared to Ranka's one kiss.

Sheryl's a great singer and she's cool, but it seems like she forces a lot of her feelings onto Alto. He always gets shy and bewildered at her actions. Ranka goes better with Alto because they have a friendlier and easier relationship. They have chemistry :D

Never said that he chosen Ranka but that he admitted to Klan that he does everything for her and Sheryl heard that and said that she always knew. Don't believe me, try watching ep 23 ...last 5 minutes of it :P So before you are commenting on something, maybe you should try watching the anime or check the information...cause it does feels that you haven't seen it :P

If he WAS annoyed and disliked her, then he wouldn't have had ANY smiles when he was with her. He acted SURPRISED when Ranka started singing, because she's very cute and shy most of the time. And didn't you see that blush on his face, and kept looking at her lips? If he felt absolutely NOTHING for her, then he would have kept only a frown, and a straight face. And, yes I have watched the anime fully. I'm also fed up with Ranka-fans that keeps saying he only pities Sheryl, and sees only Ranka.

And what was the point of Alto telling Sheryl, that he would come back? That he would come back to her, in episode 24? Why did he go see her before leaving?

I'm white, but half of my friends are Japanese or Vietnamese. Their cultures are considerably different from western cultures, as well as their ideals. Family, honor, love, all is taken more seriously than it is in America or Europe.
You have to remember that this is an anime. It will reflect Japanese ideals, not Western ideals. We can't look at what is presented from our own experiences and ideals. We have to put ourselves in their shoes to understand what's being said or meant.

This is all moot anyway. Word on the grapevine, is that the movie is changing quite a few things around so who knows what Macross Frontier: DYRL(what some of us call it) will end up having. lol

Personally, I hate Sheryl's voice. There's just something really weird about how it sounds- not that she's not a good singer, but it's almost squeaky, without being high, if you know what I mean.
Ranka's voice, on the other hand, is really pure and pretty. The voice actor can hit a lot of notes! :D

I like both voice, but yes, something is awkward with Sheryl's. Ranka's is more natural and Sheryl's is more of the superstar altered voice. That's what I tihnk. But Sheryl's a funny character, even if I like Ranka more.

well actually, this is how i see it. i don't hate sheryl 100%, she just ticks me off a bit. for get what i said in the last comment. i really do like the idea of ranka and alto being together, but it's not going to happen right now. ranka was to shy to really make her move. while sherly made her move. ranka is cute and innocent like a small child and that's what held her back. i think alto and sheryl should be together until ranka matures.

Actually Ranka has nothing more than a heavy crush on alto. She made her moves, but she's like a child. She wants selfishly atterntion without giving anything back. With two words she's spoiled and immature. Even if she has the magic of her childish cuteness and all that moe factor she hardly can form any real relationship. She learns awfully slow about her mistakes. At least her love to Alto moved her out of her shelll.

She's spoiled...there's many occasions where she acts spoiled and seemingly even the director spoiled her(despite she indirectly killed millions of people no one ever argues with her for it as an example).
About the romance thing it's true. I wait for the movie for "confirmation. Perhaps the world of the movie an "alternate unniverse" so anything is possible and the pairing in the movie not neccessary true in the TV show. I hope for better Ranka development in the film.

She isn't spoiled, Sheryl is always taking Alto away from her whenever she sees the chance, for example Sheryl finds out about the kiss scene between ranka and alto, so she goes and kisses alto first, just to steal his first kiss from ranka, second on alto's birthday she just HAD to bribe him that he could fly in a never ending sky, so he couldn't meet ranka on the hill T-T..

She might have been a bit spoiled in the beginning but not with her love for alto.. She never gets pampered by him, she is always getting heartbroken because of sheryl. Shes too shy/scared to talk to him about it. For example alto lied and said he wasn't with anyone at the mall, even though he was with sheryl.. refer to the first few episodes

One last thing, Ranka is not spoiled and she never forces anything on alto, so its not exactly just a crush.. She just doesn't want to force him into anything like sheryl keeps kissing him... Its so sad.. Then alto still leans toward sheryl... Another reason ranka probably left to return the baby vajra was because she was so sad from alto..
