@darthgrahf That is because of how the country was in the 16th and 17th century. It consisted of several provinces with some mighty cities, almost like the city states in Italy. The Hague was the seat of the "steward"/"stadhouder". There was no real head of state, the power was basically with the merchants.

In my country (Indonesia) we call "Sinterklas" for father of Christmas (Santa Claus).

Next time I woundered, why don't we cal him Santa Claus....

Finally I found it that we call "Sinterklas" because we got it from Dutch (Sinterklass) since Netherland was here . .... Indonesia was Netherland East Indie.

@solidsameer well I certainly know that isn't true. I don't know anyone who hates the islam and I even have a few very good muslim friends.

I must add that there now is a politican, Geert Wilders, who is against the Islam in the Netherlands. He believes it will take over our culture and he would gladly throw them all out. A lot of people outside the big cities, that don't know any other muslims than the ones Wilders tell them about, vote for him, but in such as amsterdam most of us know better.

if you are American i would warn you not to go to Holland . i have traveled to France Italy England Switzerland and Ireland , had great times in all of these countries , but in Holland the min they found out i was American they almost spit on me , it is a beautiful country but because of the way i was treated it left a bitter taste in my mouth , very sad , i should say that the dutch that were my parents age were lovely , only people my own age or younger were nasty

But president Bush made America a bit unpopular among the youth and even older people. Some people got the idea that Americans only make war.

amsterdam is cultural but there are living alot darkies just like den haag and rotterdam but its fun to get wasted in amsterdam or go to the hookers and see some midievel shit in the city that part is cultural yes... but to live here i wouldnt suggest to live in the capital citys in the west its expensive and overpopulated i would go live in other citys in the east or north or south and all the goodlooking chicks must go live in Apeldoorn it is very nice;)

FYI, black peter are orignally white helpers for Sinterklaas. They are black from climbing up and down chimneys when providing gifts for children during the night.

Een paar jaar geleden is er een onderzoek geweest en tot ieders verbazing lopen er inderdaad nog zo'n miljoen mensen dagelijks op klompen. Dat is van een uurtje tot hele dag. En dat ze kut lopen is heel persoonlijk. Je moet ze 'inlopen' hoe gek dat ook klinkt. Ze slijten op een zodanige manier dat ze naar jouw manier van lopen staan en da's helemaal niet kut lopen maar erg prettig zelfs. Daarbij is het ook goed voor je voeten. Hier zie ik nog dagelijks mensen op klompen hoor. Jong en oud.
