Having spent a ton of time in China, this does not surprise me. Life of any kind, including human, is of little value to them. I believe that their treatment under Mao lead to this, but I have never asked my Chinese friends as they would be extremely insulted.

I hope the 18 pedestrians feel real bad about what they have NOT done.It would be great if it would ever happen to them, but with an ''happy'' end in a wheel chair, not able to talk or move. I don't see why they are better than a murderer, rapist or thief. These people should end up in prison.

i've been to china many times. this doesn't surprise me. seriously human life is not valuable there. many of them will get defensive if you criticize their country, but i have found that the one criticism none of them has ever shot down is that they treat each other like crap, because even they know its true. i honestly think most mainland chinese are like this. they wont help unless they have something to gain or face to lose. they became the 2nd biggest economy by trampling over each other.

Please look into WHY the pedestrians didn't help the child before judging them, please.. there was a very public case a few years ago where the good Samaritan was sued for everything he had, leaving him destitute, by the man he saved.. It's all well and good to make moral judgments from behind the safety of our monitors, but when faced with the prospect of having your family lose everything to help a stranger, who knows what you would do.
