@bownguyen316 two reasons - 1) putting tape on the other side like you mentioned is uncomfortable and doesn't give me a smooth release. I know for most bowlers that's where you put the white textured tape. But it doesn't work for me. 2) Putting tape in that part of the thumb hole will increase your span a little bit. So it's best to put tape on the opposite side as shown in the video for a more snug feel without increasing your span.
I've tried using a piece of black tape over a piece of white tape as demonstrated in this video. Every time I do, however, the piece of black tape always comes out due to its lack of adhesion to the piece of white tape. Is there a certain brand of tape to use which would hold better and for a longer period of time?
@thunderfan77 why do u put a piece of black tape for white? i like putting textured tape on the other side of my thumb and black tape on where he showed it. the textured tape lets me grip my ball and the smooth white tape lets the ball come off cleanly.
@thunderfan77 For myself I find that I can get approximately 2 to 3 games out of my black tape before it needs to be changed due to lack of adhesion. Using the precut tape was becoming expensive so I grabbed a roll of electrical tape. Its the same stuff. It stays in the ball just as long and its much much cheaper. I use it on the back of my thumb hole. I use 2-6 pieces of white textured tape on the finger side of the thumb. I doesnt affect my span at all and it shouldnt!
I saw someone; they place the tape on both side in the thumb hold. or someone place one tape under the thumb . why?

@louisphng It's just personal preference. It's all about whatever feels the most comfortable to you.
