i heard a better version of this song in the radio anyone no the name and its song by him except its a remix version??? please tell me been searching to long for it
Some of you have posted that you have never seen a fat man do the split. Before the late Fred Berry joined the cast of "What's Happening!!" as the character "Rerun" Stubbs, he use to be called "Mr. Penguin" when he also did the split for the break dance group "The Lockers" back in the early 1970s.
This is my cousin Billy Stewart from Wash, DC. Billy was a Chess Recording artist in the 50's and 60's and was discovered by Bo Diddly, and his uncle Calvin (Hound Dog) Ruffin. Billy wrote and recording the 60's hits "I Do Love You" and "Sitting In The Park". This song "Summertime" was a remake of a George Gershwin classic. Billy died in 1970 when his vehicle plundged into the Neuce River in NC along with 3 of his band members. I am proud of my Family's Music History-Recording Artist Dane Riley
This man was incredible. Back in '65 i used to play his 45s over and over...Sitting in the park, I do Love You, and Summertime.... it will be a long time before we hear another human being do what he did with his voice. What an instrument!!!
Yes Billy was a Jewel of kings in the Singing rink , my loss he was a relative that I never got to met but I knew his music so well , then to top it off he was killed in an car accident on my birthday 1-17-1970 terrible day for the family. Still he left the best gift his music.
@jo22338601 I still grieve the man. Accidents just don't give us any closure. He wasn't sick or anything. I loved him and still do as if he's still with us. I saw him maybe 3 or 4 times in person at the Theater here in Chicago and let me tell you, he was unusually talented and was always sharp. I still remember those black shark-skinned pants and a white silk shirt and him looking so nice. He had a gift with his accentuation to his songs...I hear he's a rave in South America - still! Peace
Still The Best Version of Summertime. No One has ever Come Close to doing this Song Justice like Billy Stewart did. RIP Billy You Left us a Wonderful Legacy with this Great Song.
The beginning of this song is sampled in Rihanna's song Cockiness(Love it).

I thought I read somewhere he suffered a heart attack and died, either way, so sad and so young.

@lepoetress Actually he died on this day in a car accident, but RIP to the legend nonetheless.
