Nash touted its 30 MPG in its "600" series (30 MPG x 20 gal. = 600 mi. range), and Nash advertising of the '40s played up the long legs and long-distance comfort of the 600 and Ambassador.

Better to sleep in one's own car, down by the river under a shade tree. Nash even offered window screens and inflatable pillows. It was a different world then.
My father owned one of these back in the early '70's..had it repainted,new brakes,retrimmed the interior,motor had been completely reconditioned before we bought it...was a beautiful car for long trips....unfortunately,it was written off in and accident when someone failed to give way and T-boned us...my mother still has the unique column mounted speedo from it,dad kept it as a memento.one of the nicest car's we ever owned.
Nash exclusives included unibody and modern A/C. The cars were big inside, light in weight, with aerodynamic bodywork. They gave outstanding fuel economy. In the mid-50s, industry overcapacity and the lack of a Nash V8 factored into poor big Nash sales. Nash+Hudson merged in 1954 to form AMC. The large Nash body was retired at the end of 1957. AMC then offered small (American) and medium (Custom, Ambassador) size cars under the Rambler marque, and the Nash and Hudson marques were retired.
There are a few in old movie Invasion of The Body Snatchers and Day The Earth Stood Still. Lois Lane drove a Rambler hardtop convertable in old Superman series.

Yes. As for small cars, there were several but the Nash Rambler (1950), made in Kenosha, was the 1st successful American small car. The Metropolitan came later. The little Rambler was made from 1950-55 (or 56?) and 58-63. Stretched versions (named Ambassador, Custom, and Classic) were made in 56-62, and the original was re-introduced for 58-63 as the Rambler American. The lines were extensively reengineered in 63-64. Nash/AMC was a very successful company in those years.

(1) Oops Nash A/C unit all underhood intr'd 1954 - ahead by a only few years. The 'Weather Eye' ventilation system of ~1938 was decades ahead.
(2) The 1955-57 GM products were outstanding - whatever the merits of Nash - and GM was able to produce a lot of them
