could the unspoken rumour that cronenberg is actually a renegade US army kernal fort detrick biological wepons station, maryland attempting to blow the whistle on secret releases of airborne viral toxins in the NY subway system really be true
Only saw the one - The Good The Bad and The Ugly in '88, but I was impressed by his patient explanation of what he was introducing. I taped that one and it became my favorite movie.
Does anyone have the actual film as shown on Moviedrome??? All DVD releases contain either the butchered "Theatrical Release" ("Short Version") or the fully restored "Long Version". However, the partially restored "Middle Version" (re-released by Abraxas in the US in 1979, containing all the extra bits in original order but omitting most opening "mainland" footage; Nuada sun god image at the end) is nowhere to be found, not even as a vhs-rip torrent. Anyone? Please?!
Great up load, thanks. What we could do with something similar on TV today to counteract the awful rubbish that resides on every channel. Such an original concept that really brought a range of different films on to our small screens.
I could think, as I'm sure many others of you could of a good few seasons worth of films that have been released since the show ended.
We should make a list and bully them into bringing it back with someone other than claudia bloody winkleman on board. It probably only costs them the price of one outfit from strictly come dancing to produce! Sort it out BBC.
Gutted I was too young for those early days of moviedrome. Mark cousins during my youth, still the best tv series a film fan could ever hope for along with scene by scene. As others have commented a massive influence and education for many a film fan & maker out there. Please bring it back BBC, interesting films are dotted around the scheduling every now and then. Why not group them together and have someone passionate introduce them to a whole new generation of young film fans.
I love Alex Cox. I was 8 when this was shown but I remember in later Moviedrome series seeing Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia and loads of other crazy films - had such a huge influence on me, fantastic stuff. Brilliant to see how it all started
I loved Moviedrome when Cox presented it. It's nostalgia now. I live in Holland and it was a terrestrial connection from the UK via Belgium to Holland. So when there was a high pressure area I didn't see much of the movie. Everything was via cable here, but not the Beeb in those days. Something else was the pan & scan of course. Image was widescreen till the end of the opening credits only. Sometimes they made exceptions (Leone, Lawrence of Arabia, in those days).
Even as a child I loved Moviedrome. And I'm so pleased to see how right I was about Alex Cox being such an interesting and personable character! Fond memories, much better than the rubbish on tv these days.
Great to see the first ever Moviedrome intro - what a brilliant bit of TV this was from a golden era. Now TV seems to only feature wall to wall Seagal and awful rom-coms.
I was so impressed with Moviedrome as a kid I sent off for the booklet that was advertised at the end which includes the script for each film shown in the first series with still from the film too. A prized possession!
Christopher Lee makes the point on the audio commentary of the dvd release of The Wicker Man that Britt Ekland was NOT dubbed. She did her own Scottish accent and it's a myth that she was dubbed, except for a song that she sings. That was dubbed, but nothing else.
Ha ha, possibly,he does take his time with it, idunno anyway, 'thank you Alex', I've been reading 'X Films, True Confessions of a Radical Filmmaker' and it's a pretty decent read, seeing as how I've also been editing my own low budget short these coming weeks. (see TrashCanSchool)
Just Fantastic, somme1915 summed it up brilliantly, Alex Cox's introductions somehow made the films seem like you were watching forbidden fruit, adult and daring, he always set the scene and made out that you were privileged to be seeing the film. Which we were. Film nirvana, i want my license fee to bring back moviedrome
Moviedrome was a brilliant showcase for fatastic original forgotten cult films presented in alex coxs inimitable style. He managed to evoke a sense of thrilling apprehension in his introduction to each film along with the brooding late night jazzy theme tune,it was just the best tv.

is it true that the negatives were part of the M1 motorway? I can't workout if it was a dry-delivery joke.

Is Mr Cox the same man who is now a food critic? I could swear he was on Britains best dish!

Judging by Cox's intro, this was the very first Moviedrome.

The intro over the word "TWO" says it's a new series, so I think it was, yes.

Ah, I remember watching Moviedrome when it was on TV. Might've been where I first saw The Wicker Man.
I love it how the hymn at the start of the film is the one Ewar Woowar sings at the end...

Does anyone have the intro Alex Cox did for the film Carny? Could always see something different on Moviedrome.

Ah, a return to my early teens when this was on late at night. I discovered many quality films through moviedrome.
It's so unfortunate there's nothing like it on now. It had class.

I think that this was from the very first season of Moviedrome wasn't it? I'd completely forgotten that Mark Cousins took over.

You wouldn't happen to have more Moviedrome intro's (by Cox or Cousins) by any chance? Thanks for posting this!
