  • That's a great idea - I bought a .22 and .410 adapter for my New England Arms 12 guage...

  • Dave, it isn't just your opinion. The facts bear out the 12ga is more versatile than a flintlock. Take 1 12ga with 20ga adapter, 357 adapter, and 22 adapter there isn't much you can't hunt and the odds of finding ammo in a store/house is just about 100%. Try finding blackpowder once the stores are ravaged.

  • It just occured to me: if you want a cartridge adapter that uses common ammo a survivalist can buy or may "scrounge up" from an empty home or farm. then for an M-6 you might consider a 6" long 410 adapter to use the various .32 pistol cartridges and the.22 Hornet. BOTH calibers have been used for decades and have various positive attributes. Although not currently as popular, they are still ommonly found in stores or homes nationwide. Another is an insert for 410 to 22WMR (it also shoots 22WRF)

  • @Rivieratime Small correction. I obviously meant that a .32 adapter for the various .32 rounds, OR a .22 Hornet adapter could both be handy. These old tried and true rounds are very often found on farms and suburban homes and they should be do-able in a .410.

    Just a thought.

  • Very cool Dave regarding 12 gauge adapters!

  • O/U 22? Way cool!

  • Point. 12 Gauge rules!

  • I absolutely love this adapter deal. What a fantastic idea. Now I can take all those long guns out of my pack. That thing was getting heavy. LOL And thanks Dave for getting us a discount. I am definitely getting some of these adapters. Too bad someone stole my 12 gauge single shot. I am in the market to buy one. What is the best one to buy in your opinion? Thanks again, Friend. I thank The Lord for you.

  • Will the adapters work in a pump mossy 500?

  • I have a drilling at home, a side by side shotgun with a rifle under. My friend and I were shopping around for another one, and drillings are expensive. Are they worth the money? I think so, but he isn't quite so sure.

  • Maybe I've missed it, but have you ever considered air rifles? It might be that my opinion is affected by the European approach to firearms, but it would seem a great self reliance weapon, since there is no need for gunpowder, just some lead pellets. And nowadays there are air rifles large enough to take down even small animals. I'd love to hear your opinion on this.

  • @Dermanze -have you ever had a high powered airgun?(like big bore 9mm and up caliber) it will shoot close to 500 of rounds, then after that, it will have some issues like orings and worn out plastics, delrins or rubber sealants, sometimes after a shot just a mere 1 shot, then it will have some issues like loosing air, in a very controlled environment and situation it will work perfectly, but to rely on it as a gathering food tool, your better of with a powdered 22lr gun

  • @nolideleon2010 I see your point, and a valid point indeed. But still, here in Europe, you are more likely to run across an o-ring-factory than to find some gunpowder or bullets ;)

  • How did I miss the 22 hand gun vid!! Dang now i got to go find it!

  • Comment removed

  • Side question: Will it blend?

  • but can you root it and put CM9 on it?

  • Thank you for always looking out for us Dave. Discounts are great during these times!

  • Dave, you said someone asked you why you don't carry a flint lock instead of a .12 gauge. When I started muzzle loading, the first rifle I built was a flint lock. I can see why it was so hard for people in the old days to get meat quickly. You mentioned how difficult it is to produce black powder, but that's not the only problem. Flints wear out. Charges don't always go off. The flash of the pan can spook game before the main charge fires. For a modern long hunter, .12 gauge is THE way to go.

  • Great vid Dave...Love that m6

  • Ray Has been working on the 223 adapter for over a year. Why don't you say, "he has been working on" and not "we're working on". It's his project.

  • Does the 22 have land grooves?

  • Received mine yesterday. .22, 9mm and 44 mag. Any idea why only the .22 is rifled?

  • Just so totally kickass. Reminds me why I subbed years ago.

  • Dave, thanks for working out the discount. I ordered three adapters can't wait for the 5.56. Thanks for the great videos.

  • what video did you show the pistol in?

  • Let me start by saying, Thank you for the discount. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and as a self taught survivalist, take from it any information i can. In true idea of self reliance, I am also trying to learn Flintknapping, because like you say, its hard to come up with black powder in the wild. IT'S TOUGH!!!

  • Excellent video!!!

  • I use a cmmg conversion kit for my AR15 with Black Dog mags.

  • Also, just wondering if you have seen the over and under shotgun and rifle combos that Savage firearms makes

  • Sweet. I've been looking at the adapters since the first video you did on them but definitely gonna pick a few up now. Thanks

  • thanks for the discount Dave!

  • nice dave

  • that is genius for the bug out bag

  • I think there should be an adapter for muzzlloader to take actual bullets

  • Thanks Dave, I never knew adapters where even made like you show. I'll be ordering some of these this week.

  • Great vid. Dave have u tried a "cut shell" in your 12GA? It is a simple process changing a target load into a slug. Common mans slug.

  • Hey Dave this very cool thank you and God bless wayne

  • Thanks for the vid Dave hope to see you at the Indy 1500 and thanks for your work for a discount for us!

  • Out of curiosity, would it be possible to work up an adapter for 30-06 or even .308?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Dave, I would love to see a video on how you engraved the stock on your shotgun and what they mean if they do in fact mean anything.

  • @wildernessoutfitters BUT! now that I think about it, lol, the adapter itself might be a big factor in the pressure holding capability. That big piece of steel might just be a huge pressure holder from the sides if not that much pushes directly back as could be the case. I'm probably wasting my time as the makers probably have that all figured out, but I have a policy, if you see it, say it. Epiphany that came to me after I assumed a friend of mine saw a car pull back in the parking lot, he hit.

  • can i shoot 454 casull out of the 410 adapter

  • @ManoloMuertes to answer, I think you could as far as size, but I'm not sure. Pressures would be pushing it maybe. They would exceed the strongest 12 gauge loads in pressure as far as I know. You can shoot the 45 Colt out of the Casull or however it's spelled unless I'm wrong. The Casull would blow away the .45 Colt +P power wise I'm pretty sure. I'd check with the guys on the web site to see if they know it would be ok.

  • @wildernessoutfitters continued, the Colt .45 + P pressure is about equal to the 3.5 inch mag shotgun shell. 14,000 psi. That's probably about the max, except in the shorter adapter it will lose some pressure. I don't know for sure how much, probably a good %, but that's something not to guess about.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Another concern with rifle round adaptation, a 12 gauge is capable of 11,500psi or the round generates that much pressure at max, the 3.5" shell 14,000psi. The .308 maxes at over 60,000 psi, so that's probably a total no go by a long shot, talk about blowing up in your face. The guys you're working with probably have all those numbers though better than I do. From what I know the .45 Colt +P exceeds the rating of a normal shotgun shell too, but depends on the specific gun.

  • in theory couldn't you put the .410-.22lr adapter into the 12ga-.410 and then not have to carry the 12ga-.22lr ?

  • Any way of useing a 22 round as a primer for reloads? Maybe if you trimmed the sides you could use it for a cap?

  • 7.62x39 as well would be awsome

  • 12 GA .22LR 30/30 common mans combo. just my .02

  • @Tblbaby No doubt. I'll be in a treestand with right at a 20 yd shot. With slugs and buckshot to follow if it doesnt drop. Unluckily for me, I'll have plenty of opportunities to test it, should it not work. We are overrun with the bastards. My 10mm pistol has proved pretty effective, I'm hoping for similar results at 20 yds and under. i'll tape it and post a link when i get back.

  • @Techsan75 : ) I was hoping you'd be in a tree stand. Slugs back up will surly do it. If they do a rifled extended adapter should be great. Don't know if a tumbling .44 bullet would penetrate well enough on a good hog for reliable stopping. Look forward to the vid.

  • @Techsan75 I was hoping you'd be in a tree stand : ) 12 gauge slug should be plenty backup. If they come out with the rifled extended adapters that should be plenty. Don't know if a tumbling .44 would penetrate well enough for reliable stopping on a big hog.

  • Let us know when that 9' adapter for 12gauge-.22LR comes out. I have an NEF break-action 12 like yours it would be perfect for. One question though: How long does the chamber of the shotgun have to be? Or does it matter? (Well, that's 2 questions.)

  • Im looking to buy a single shot shotgun does anyone have any suggestions on what brand to get???

  • I bet most of the Zombie Survival guys aren't even aware of these adaptors...

I've never seen anyone mention them as part of their "ultimate" kit anyway.

  • Wow... I had no idea you could adapt a shotgun to fire these rounds...

I thought I knew a thing or two as well, about different rounds like birdshot, rubber and taser rounds haha...

  • Great innovations Dave & sounds like a real good deal.

  • Dave, i still don't understand : with buckshot, aren't you bound to eat a lot of lead pellets stuck into the critter you sprayed?

  • Dave, New sub here! I have watched quite a few of your videos, but the 21st Century longhunter and Yurt stuff is what made be join up. Keep up the great work brother.

  • Dave in a long term situation like you are in now would it be viable to Carry a long distance rifle like .270 or .308

  • @Bornwithnofear I have a Mosin brother but in the eastern woodlands I dont think a distance rifle is a good option a 12 guage will kill anything, a Large caliber rifle will destroy small and medium game.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Shoot something in the head and its dead.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Thumbs up for Mosin, which I have a chamber insert for in .32.

  • HAve you heard of the "drilling" a kind gun very common here in germany with three barels most have to 12 gauge and one .22 but other combinations with bigger calibers exist too.

  • @Bubim1 Sounds like the Rossi with many different choices in 2 or 3 or even sometimes 4 barrel combo's. I'd be very interested in German made guns though, always seem to do a great job. I'm going to look for them around here. Probably won't find it though.

  • Nice video you just opened to whole world of single shot shotgun to me...also I just don't understand why Springfield armory won't sell the m6 scout any more even though so many people want it...but i realize if they do re-release it they will more than likely jack up the price...marketing strategy

  • Don't forget these days if you find BP you might find 209 primers.

  • Dave, I've watched every one of your videos over the last year and it continues to improve everything I love about bushcraft and self-reliance. Keep on, keeping on brother because you are the man. That is all.

  • @CommonersSurvivalNet Isn't there a difference between 'pushing' something and being honest about your (his) opinion of it's merit? You yourself clearly agree that an M6 Scout is worth having should the opportunity arise...

  • Dave that was a very interesting video, I didnt even know that there were adapters for ammo:)

  • @CommonersSurvivalNet I have owned a Rossie brother, sold it.

  • @CommonersSurvivalNet The AR7 is common man but prone to jam and therefor not reliable IMHO and the Rossie while Okay is not near as bullet proof as I would like to see them. I am hoping I can get Springfield to re-release the M6

  • @wildernessoutfitters

I can't vouch for the Rossi but can comment on the AR7 with a bit of personal experience. I've shot two to the tune of a couple hundred rounds in each. Both were 1980's-early 90's production. Both had significant malfunction issues, FTF being the most common problem. I really wanted those AR7's to work but they didn't.

IMO the Marlin Papoose is a much more reliable survival rifle.

  • Starting to sell me on a single shot 12ga Dave

  • really like that 410-22 over/under.

  • Awesome video, would they be making a 20 ga adapter to shoot .223 or 556??? That would be wonderful, i love shooting my 20 ga and having the versatility of shooting other ammunition is worth its money in gold if a situation arises where you exhausted all 20 ga and have .223 or 9mm or even 7.62 adapter since having those would broaden your opportunity of finding plentiful ammo.

  • Very cool bro! Thanks!

    Thumbs up!~~John

  • Absolutely awesome. Thanks brother!

  • Its all about availability and versatility. I really like that scout rifle. Does it come in 12 gauge and .22? That would be an awesome combination.Around here nearly eery farmer has either one, or both of those guns. So ammo wouldn't be hard to come by.Thanks..

  • can you do a video shooting different ammo types with these adapters? id be interested in seeing how accurate it is

  • RUFL I got mine already

  • Damn, just bought one earlier this week. Haha, oh well.

  • Some of you guys are missing the point (LONGHUNTER) 1 man carring everything with him he needs. It would be great to have a small battery with you but I ain't packing 3 guns with me + 20lbs of lead,2lbs of pouder a few bullet moulds and a hand press with dies. If you think about what he is doing it is difficult to argue his logic. I might argue that a contender carbine and a couple of barrels are a better choice but it woud be heavier and would cost $1000

  • I wonder if the 556 adapter would work with 545

  • "it's all about versatility not the ballistics" stop and think about that for a second. Great you can shoot other ammo but ur not gonna be able to hit the side of the barn. Not worth it. The 9 inch rifled barrel does sound very cool tho. I would carry the 9 inch but not the little ones.

  • @Survivalpractical I agree to some extent witht he Rifle Pistol Calibers although the 22 adapter will shoot 2" Groups at 20 Yards. But the SG Adapters are GRAVY for SURE, and the 9" Rifled Barrels will address alot of accuracy issues.

  • Hey Dave I have a quick question for you, did you get you H & R from critter? I was looking at some older videos and found one by him doing a tune up on a gun he got from a yard sale. Any way loving the yurt series and all the other videos, they have given this Boy Scout a lot of ideas when I go to the woods.

  • I am concerned about the ballistics of firing these rounds through such a small barrel. I guess it depends on the distance you're shooting and what type of game you're going after. My knowledge in this area is limited but I do know that a bullet that tumbles is not good.

Ideally having a shotgun and a couple rifles would be the best. But, if you can only have one firearm then I can totally understand the use of these adapters if they can be applied effectively.

  • Amen Amen Dave! I think people are so caught up in perfect ballistics they miss the point here. No weapon is perfect--every gun has advantages and drawbacks. Here the priority is versatility--a single, simple, weapon that can do many things. You might have to sacrifice accuracy to get versatility and you might have to sacrifice multiple shots to get the bomb proof-ness of a simple single shot shotgun.

  • Awesome Dave...i like the concept. Been watchin your vids for several years now. Learning alot from your channel.

    Thank you!

    Ben

  • I don't even like guns but i like daves

  • The longer adapter for a .22 would be great. I hope they start producing them. Great video.

  • Oh ya love the adapters. I just wish they were about 10" long and all of them could be bought with or with out rifling. 14 an a half inches for the .223 or any other large rifle cal.

  • what about a 7.62x39 adapter?? i would buy that one..

  • Could u try to get the AR adapter for the 20 guage single to

  • Is it just me or does it sound like Shit just got serious with dave here?

  • You are a speed freak. What supplement do you take?!

  • @zappp111 He drinks lots of energy drinks he said, lol

  • Look you are CLEAN, RESTED,and hyper as usual. WHAT SUPPLEMENTS do you use?!!!!!!!!

  • Dave, do you think that a break barrel single shot shotgun would be better gun overall in terms of usability and versatility as opposed to a pump action gun?

  • 10% off very nice, thanks dave and thanks gun adapters!

  • @nlandoutfitters I couldn't find a place to enter the coupon code when ordering. Ordered anyway but they could make it more clear as to where to enter the coupon code.

  • Thank you Dave

  • You are the only person I have ever heard call a M6 a beautiful gun.

What I would love to see is a rifled 357 mag adapter, In Indiana the "smallest" round you can hunt deer with is a 357.

    great video!

  • What about the bow and arrow very one is going for the guns and amo would you sugest the bow and arrow

  • Thank you for your extreme priceless resourcefulness Dave.

  • Hey Dave! Can you recommend some single shot shotguns from common man to some you would swear by and have yourself. If you have already done so in a video or elsewhere, could you just post where we might find it. Thanks!

  • Nice guns

  • Do you know if the adaptors are legal in Canada?

  • @thehawkmanunknown I ordered them, and haven't heard otherwise.

  • I HOPE THEY MAKE MORE ADAPTERS ESPECIALLY IN MILITARY/NATO CALIBERS LIKE 7.62X51.

  • Did you use to sell cars at one point, you could double as a salesman, very convincing.

  • Dave have you considered something like the lee shotgun loader? Cost about $25 on Ebay, slow but could add to the versatility in loading the shells.

  • Dave are all of your classes set up as 3 day events? I can't take off for more than a weeked.

  • @homeinthewhiteoaks Yes most are 3-4 days Fri-Sun or Mon

  • @wildernessoutfitters

Do you ever have classes in Inidana?

  • @homeinthewhiteoaks Doing a Private class in the Hoosier NF in Apr 2012

  • @wildernessoutfitters

I may just try to get off for the April Pathfinder Basics Course. Would love to get some hands on training from the master...

  • these adapter are stupid buy the gun it is made for!

  • @bobaloosb Are you just having a Bad night you are like jekle and hyde here, this is about versatility for one gun to shoot multiple calibers instead of carrying 5-6 guns, hope you feel better soon dude.

  • @bobaloosb yea so is your mom...

  • Good stuff!

  • I would like to see the adapter made with an actual longer barrel on it. while this would only work for the shotgun model i think it would really help. It doesn't need to be very long just long enough to stabilize flight.

  • @URBANAMERICANTAC Did ypou listen to the vid brother? We are working on that for 556 and 22lr as well as 9mm now.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Yeah you got to my point towards the end. Im not worried about an adapter for the 556/223 but an adapter for a 12g a that is maybe 6" long instead of the current 2 3/4 or whatever they are. You know What i mean? Im just throwing some thoughts out there for yah brother. No matter what you decide it's still a great product and I will be ordering for sure.

  • @URBANAMERICANTAC What would a 6" Adapter that was 12GA DO? I am confused PM me?

  • Dave, will it work on a side by side shotgun, im guessing it will

  • @czechmate9591 Oh yeah

  • I should be ok in Australia, as i have a rimfire permit, which is a .22 and also a shotgun, also have centrefire, I will give it a go and see if i can get it in.

    Cheers

    Mick

  • Hmm I wonder if they can make 30-06 or .308

  • Also, I can tell you can't clean a gun right you need to bring the steal wool through first then the wet cloth then the dry cloth. Just saying brother.

  • @bobaloosb Evedently you know nota about black powder because without soaking and breaking up the fouling the steel wool just get full of junk and does no good, but thanks for that opinion.

  • @wildernessoutfitters

Why would you soak the fouling??? That makes it harder to get out of the barrel. Can you reuse the insert after you shoot it?

  • @bobaloosb Brother the traditional way of cleaning a BP Gun is to pour boiling hot soapy water down the barrel, scrub and repeat until clean. Historical fact, this is not Smokless Powder.

  • @bobaloosb Yes the inserts are machine metal bro they are usable indefinatley.

  • @bobaloosb Just sayen

  • @bobaloosb Dave has it right, that's important with any corrosive powder. It chemically neutralizes the acidic residue first.

  • Agree on getting close to the animal you are hunting. I dont hunt with a gun all that often but have more than filled th freezer with my bow throughout the years and it has been all within 15-40 yards! I shot 2 within an hour out of the same stand and almost layed them on top of each other at 20 yards!

  • Several calls for 7.62x39 and I'll join'em. 7.62x39 is common, but only a good soft point from Winchester etc is good for deer out to about 150 yards. I'll be on the waiting list for the 9" rifled adapters. New M6 clones are available at a reasonable price. My first rifle was the old Model 24 Savage OU .410/.22lr. There no doubt in my mind that 12ga is the most versatile. My neighbor and I are currently hunting Mountain Lion that tried hard to take his dog. We'll use 12ga at night.

  • @InTheSticks0001 Hornady makes a great 7.62 x 39 hunting round. Think its hollow point.

  • @mostlymichaelcanada You are probably referring to Hornady's SST in 7.62x39. Excellent. Most HP in rifle bullets are either for a 'match' round or mostly ineffective. The 8M3 bullet in the' Military Classic' loads is the exception. The cheap SP ammo is inconsistent in performance and may not expand enough. I would try the 150g Brown Bear as that is a bullet borrowed from a 7.62x54R load. The best comes from major manufactures. Winchester is the cheapest of the best.

  • @InTheSticks0001 I don't think you'll get full bullet expansion out of these adapters, much of the powder won't burn until past the short tube & fps will diminish. If you were reloading & used faster powders like pistol powder, you might get much better performance. Don't know if that fit's Dave's scenario, but if you were doing it on purpose you could reload the ammo to get max benefit. Could even mess with mash match head head material & fine aluminum powder for a flash powder but have to test

  • @tblbaby Good point if you are using the adapters for rifle cartridges and need expansion. A 'solid' on small game might be preferred, or the velocity might be sufficient at range, say 50 yards and closer. This would make bullet selection as important as powder selection. Not a problem if using pistol cartridges. Given this, I'd be interested in the .22 adapter where it isn't an issue, or an adapter for my handgun ammunition. The 9" adapter would improve rifle cartridge performance.

  • just typed it in and got my discount! thank you brother!

  • Ive ordered a few of these, but your 556 idea sparked a question. As far as the Law goes, does the barrel of the adaptor have to meet NFA requirements or does the shotgun barrel meet them? Great video, cant wait to see how the 44 mag adaptor works on the hogs down here.

  • @Techsan75 it wont be as powerful as a longer barrel so take serious backup if you test that or you could have a problem with a seriously pissed off hog.

  • wow thank you

  • Thanks dave, huge fan of your work.

  • those 9 inch adapters will be nice id lke to have all the options in that length

  • Dave, i live in Australia, do you think i can get those adapters

  • @czechmate9591 Should be able to bro

  • @czechmate9591

Just remember to check your state regs, adapters are considered another barrel in some parts of Australia and will require registration as such.... especially QLD, NSW, Vic.

  • @czechmate9591 on thier website it states they can ship to nearly any address and costs $18 for international shipping

  • i would like to have a adaptor to shoot 12ga out of my 10/22ruger

  • @foxvalley560400

    are you serious buddy?

  • @bobaloosb yeah chould attach the 12ga on the end of the barrell when you fire the 22 it hits the primer on the 12ga shell

  • Thanks Dave, just plain thanks for everything your providing for us. JJD

  • That's a cool set up, thanks Dave.

  • hahaha, Im still trying to get a hold of one of the h&r single shot shotguns. Everywhere I've looked so far its been out of stock. You should sell those at your store to Dave.hahaha

  • Ok, Dave you convinced me to try an insert...you seem a little upset that people shoot semi's. Don't tell us that we don't know how to hunt. That is a little closed minded of you. I've been using an 870 express since I was 18. Also, shooting trap since that age. But, I would rather shoot twice and kill one then shoot one and kill none. I'm not attacking you. I'm just trying to learn just like you.

  • @bobaloosb Not saying that bro, just saying it does not take SA Weapons and perfect balistics to kill game I own several SA's but they have there place to me and it is not the woods. No disrespect intended, sometimes to get someone to pay attention you have to drop a grenade in thier shorts.

  • Dave is the reason you are reloading the 12ga with balck powder just the added margin for error in the powder charge or is there some other reason you like using the blackpowder?

  • @homeinthewhiteoaks Good question and suprised not ask a while ago, you are corect about the margin of error, but it is also an availability issue for components and ease safe use compared to smokless.
