The design is very new & brave. Why is everyone so afraid of change? I love the extreme rake of the windshield and the backwards-hat design. I think even Ian Callum would agree. Respect to Mini for being daring in a cookie-cutter car-design world. And it's a damn good car with proper stats.
To much money period. Your in wax sti territory and the interior quality just doesn't justify that type of increase in a FWD mini turbo'd upscale Eco car. They're banking on the exclusivity of the model and this particular trim to justify the cost to the yips who think a 205bhp go kart is worth gold. He also needs to stop saying "ah" after every line...that the Achilles heel for any commenter. Saying "sorta" is considered filler when you repeat it constantly. It's doesn''t convey any tangible q
I fully expected this review to be terrrible but it was a actually a good review. Enough of the stupid video reviews where they complain about the most obvious and pointless things. Its nice to see an enthusiast review an enthusiasts car.
Unfortunately, how does a review like this help? Who drives on a racetrack day to day unless you're a performance car driver? I what to know about safety features, how it handles in bad weather, is it safe to drive on the freeway? Car manufacturers try so hard to make their boxes with four wheels seem more than it really is. Transportation. Sure make a fun car. Test it on the racetrack??? Who cares.
The coupe is aimed toward people who want a performance oriented roadster. This is the JCW model. If you were looking at a honda accord review, they would talk about safety, reliability, and comfort.
@socalpimp1974 I would have agreed with you, and I was going to get one, but then I saw that Ford's MT-86 transmission in the 5.0 is made in China and as a result, they have massive problems at just 2-3000 miles. Look up "mustang grinding gears." Unfortunately this is a common problem. I heard that customers finally got Ford's attention and they are going to commence a mustang recall, but I'm not sure. At least the only problems you would expect in a mini would be electrical.
the coupe is actually heavier than the hardtop. the "added performance" is kind of a farce. if you want the fastest mini... get a jcw hatchback version and take out the back seats. it's more practical like that too.
Yeah, I thought it was kind of a dumb idea when I heard about it like a year ago on Top Gear, and now seeing it, it's still a dumb idea. It's a pretty ugly car, and dumb looking mainly because of that roof line. Personally give me the Standard Cooper S or JCW version and I'll be perfectly happy, you can keep your ugly thing,
@phantomloita uhhh i never said they weren't, fun, expensive ect. I just said that this should be the cheapest mini in the mini line up. It's lacking the already lacking functionality of the hatchback models. No back seats, less truck space, ect. So I don't see why the pricing of this model is logical. Like you said, Mini's are one of the more expensive hatchbacks you can get. They are just outside of my financial reach. So if this price were to be lowered, I'd be all over it. Soooo yea.
Made it to about 4:30 then had to stop. The "uh" or "ah" thing between sentences was about to give me an aneurism. this guy has the makings of a good car reviewer but the "nervous tick" is a deal/subscription breaker. Sorry.
get rid of the silly retractable wing and put a fixed wing or forget the wing. Just another thing to break. Make the hardtop removable like a targa. put a bigger engine in atleast a 2.0 and bump up the hp to 230-250hp. Also, lighten the car up and dump all the luxury stuff. drop the price to 20-25k. then you have a lean mean street fighter.
@lomadonkey Don't like the Elise. Nice car just not my type. very deep door sills, way to low. like the new coupe look just want a leaner meaner car. mini overly luxurious same with the new challenger. wish they would just make some stripped down models. CHEAP SPEED RULES.
@handmouth So you want them to take weight off, re-engineer the car so that the roof is removable, create an entirely new engine with more power AND you want it to be cheaper than a base Mini?
@yeldm23 Leave the roof on for rigidity, but make it aluminum. Ditch all the audio and Gps crap. Lean out the interior with racing seats. Manual windows, no cruise, plexiglass the back window. Add a bigger turbo, and larger inter cooler. Mini lost it's soul. They need to get back to the original essence of the car. Not, making mini BMW's.
Minis are not slow!! That guy is dumb as fuck haha and because 370zs and all that are all rear weel drive.... This car can go through winters very well and has cool features so i dont no wat ur talking about
I don't understand why Mini isn't dead. The top of the line cars have 208hp and cost $36-42k, they are tiny and slow! For $40k you can get a FULLY loaded 370z or Mustang GT with 412hp, seriously mini?...
I think it's funny that a dorky looking dude complains about a roof line he considers "dorky"!! That roof line is distinctive, very different from the norm and one of the best features of the Coupe in my opinion! Sweet little car!
I like your review however I had to listen to it twice since you were talking too fast for my understanding of english. Also I found the intro video at the beginning too long. The review started after 1 min 30 secs.
I am a little concerned about the coupe. Field of vision outside the car has been minimized and the vehicle itself is heavier. Within the car there is a sense of claustrophobia and darkness. Performance is still under 200 hp, whereas a couple of afternoons with a standard Mini doing a few mods can net you up to 200 hp. And the pricetag. The 30g's for a sub 200 hp two seater is a real turnoff especially when to achieve the JCW upgrades your talking at least another 10g's. Not worth it!
masculine and aggressive? i don't think so. For 30K price range I rather get a Mustang GT or Camaro SS Even the nissan 370Z if you looking for an import this car should not be worth more than about 21K dollars
@zzoot if you fold the rear seats then otherwise you cant not place a beer bucket in it, ive worked long enough ad mini and bmw, now the coupe got a trunk you can say trunk to, i think you know litle mate ..
great review and awesome video quality. I have a cooper s and I'm so glad you pointed out the the massive flaw about the ultra low roof line. seems like that would be the biggest pain when you are trying to look up at a red light every time you stop. also, there is no panaramic roof like you can get now. it looks awesome but not worth the extra money.
Only bad thing I see here is the same thing he mentions: having difficulties seeing the traffic lights. Aside from that I'm totally in love with it. Can't wait for mine to finally arrive!
@XtremeCJYoYoFreak I'm not sure how they are in other countries, but in UK should be fine. We have 2 sets, 1 at the white stop line where the light is and 1 the other side of the junction. So as you approach you see the red stop light and whilst at the junction you can watch the lights on the other side straight ahead and wait for the green light so no issues. You would think designers would have realised this when designing the cars by now though.
@AndrewParkerTV we sometimes do have that too, or another set of lights a little closer to the ground so we can see them through the side windows.
I had a test drive with a Coupé last week, and it's not nearly as bad as mentioned here. It's perfectly fine. But there is one thing annoying: the B-pillar is making shoulder checks very difficult, really gave me a hard time there, but I'll figure something out. Other from that: I'm totally in love with this MINI! Can't wait til my JCW Coupé is here!
i like it but the butt is ugly, specially in the convertible version. also i was expecting better engines with more horses, more interior refresh. and wayyy better nav system
@jsiszero Uh what? There is plenty of space in the front two seats. They removed the two back seats which didn't have much use in a normal hatchback anyways. Someone clearly has never been in a MINI..
Nice review, but it would have been nice if you hadn't stood in front of the car the whole time. Only at 5:39 did you move out of the way. Also, what's the price?
