Taiwan is and always a part of China. The Island never been separated from the mainland and just because KMT fled and became claimant on the island doesn't mean that it has separated from China or island of Chinese. Taiwan is not part of China. It is true because China has never conquered Taiwan. Less people in Taiwan recognize themselves as Chinese.
