I found the moral dillemma intriguing - and it went very well with the story! Why can't ITV understand that Agatha Christie's Poirot is miles better than Downton Abbey...?
David Suchet is my favorite/best Poirot, in my opinion. However, I just watched this movie in full, and it was just horrible. David Suchet does some of his best acting in this movie. However, the director decided to make the movie about moral choices and deviated, heavily, from the classic Poirot formula. The cardboard/Hollywood acting from the rest of the cast (a few exceptions, of course, like Denis Menochet) is horrendous. Really, really bad. I'd watch this only to see David Suchet.
@KoH4711 just goes to show he can take a show and carry it to awesomeness :) (I Iiked it, its a bit uncomfatably far from the book but its an adaptation not a drect cover so i can deal with it)
Hi guys, great video. I did a translating of David Suchet Interview PLSSS WATCH IT IN MY VIDEOS , i want to do more videos. Please, i need more peoplee, THUMBS UP pleasee
I loved this ending! *even* better then the book! he doenst leave it up to the other passangers but decided himself, doesnt get distracted by what the others want. Also the delimma and inner battle he has to deal with now (what version do i tell?!) and then feeling obliged to do what goes against all his prinsiples. its so *deep* haha....truly loved it!! It was a magnificent good epp and the ending still gives me goosebumps. and huge thumps up for Suchet Who could possibly be Poirot if not him
I love it. But I still don`t understand why Hercule Poirot didn`t say truth in the end of movie. I think he was right when he was talking about law and judiciary, but in the end of movie I was disappointed. 12 murders on the Orient Express was absolutly same like Samuel Rachet. That`s controversial.
Loved it. Yes, it's considerably bleaker than Christie's works usually are, but Hell, Suchet finally got a chance to show us everything he's capable of as Poirot. Bravo!
@samjlomas Well, I hope so. You can find an article in express . co . uk (sorry, i cant copy the link .. ) it's called "Poirot beats axe to solve more murders" I think and hope this is true. Otherwise, I'm sorry for the provision of hope.
I was very happy when I herd about this Murde on the Orient Express. This is the best Poirot adaptation forever, but this isn't perfect. I love Suchet and his play. He is the best Poirot. The scenery is beautiful. The train is enormeus. And the very beginning is very sad. I think this is the best film my favourite. I hope thet ITV made the remaining Poirot stories (6)
I am happy that they made 'Orient Express' in 2010 and that its very faithful to the book, because 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' the other Christie masterpiece was THE WORST MOVIE in the history of filmmaking, TV industry whatever. It wasn't faithful to the book but I would not have mind that if the movie was good enough... This was pretty good - 8 out of 10! :)
This is the best performance of book from Agatha Christie I have seen. It´s absolutelly brilliant, I know the story and I saw the previous version, but at the end, I nearly cry...And I am not able to say why...
Lovely version, David Suchet is fantastic! As for the tone of this version, if you watch the series from start to finish, you notice a definite change in Poirot's mood as the people around him start to become fewer, with the detective himself eventually alienating anyone who could be a companion. This version of Orient Express reflects the surmation of Poirot's lonely state of mind by this time in his life.
@kchilderley I think Poirot's change of mood is primarily triggered after Hastings marries and their partnership dissolves - that (to me, at least) is the turning point for the character.
@whisperingangel -- As it happens I have not seen this one, partly BECAUSE I have heard so much about the plot changes. IT's a ripping good trailer, but even in that short, dramatic flash, there are things that the screenwriter basically made up. I know they have to do this sometimes to show us things about the characters that in books are revealed by the narrator -- but I think it has been done so frequently and often so unnecessarily in this series that we have lost Agatha Christie.
I've read the book version of this and I rather enjoy Poriot even if I am only 14. I don't like this adaption I noticed a few changes which I thought spoiled the plot and I wondered I'f anyone else had? Also, are there any other good Poriot books worth reading I've read 3 so far! Thanx!
@Whisperingangel1996 -- As it happens I have not seen this one, partly BECAUSE I have heard so much about the plot changes. the movie was beautifully dirrected, lovely dark atmosphere and music, excellent cast, interresting ideas... but (and i finished reading the novel just the other day so the details are still fresh) this wasn't Agatha Christie's story, and this wasn't David Suchet's Poirot... i simply didn't recognise them. the dirrector's reinvented the story or seen it from a different perspective... i think the movie is quite hard to understand if you haven't read the book or seen a previous version.

@DeaneShafortock I am disappointed because, overall, the film is successful. But I do not like the changes to the novel. Sorry, I'm a purist. But David Suchet is excellent.
I am very disappointed ! Why change the novel ? In the original story, there is no religious sentiments. Missing key moments in the investigation. Where is Mr. Hardman? Dr. Constantine is complicit? ... Ultimately, it is a very bad adaptation.
@DaVinciMap A bad adaptation? Other than editing out Hardman, making Constantine an accomplice, it's a very faithful version of the book. By adding the philosophical/religious aspects they managed to take the book one more step forward AND give something new to AC fans and distance this version from the (excellent) Finney adaptation. These new additions were both exciting and interesting and I'm glad they were inserted. If you didn't like this version, you can always watch the Finney film.
@DaVinciMap But Murder On The Orient Express and as with so many other Agatha Christie novels has been made into TV series so many times, that you really do need to add a bit of individuality so ITV can claim it as their own, rather than just a copy of the 1974 adaptation.
Does Chief Inspector Japp and Cpt. Hastings play in this movie.. Im really interesting how japp and hastings look after all these years.. in old series which were made in 1990's were verry young... :) Plz replay! :D Thhanks
A poor film. The change in tone from the original novel meant that this was not Christie's story. The religious overtones were not of the Poirot that we know and love and the changes were not improvements on the original story, far from it. What a wasted opportunity.
@hebbs11 Yes, that struck me when watching this trailer. Allthough I haven't seen this version, it seems so changed: I mean - where does all the out-door scenes come from? 99% of the book is set in the train.
A fantastic adaptation. I loved the way it focused on Poirot's decision and the last scene in particular was wonderful. Well done to David Suchet for another remarkable performance the greatest detective in the world.
This was a well photographed film, it looked fantastic. But I'm annoyed as hell by what they did to the storyline and what they did to the character of Poirot. He is now apparently a religious obsessed, humourless misanthrope who holds his catholicism in higher esteem than his detective work. Who came up with that bizarre idea? They paid more respect to the book and if things were added it didn't mess up the ingenious plot that A.C. wrote.
@913Fury Off course Hercule Poirot is better , I read many of Sherlock Holmes stories , they were silly and lack of thrill I admire all of Agatha’s stories specially when Hercule Poirot and miss marble are involved @@
Dadid Suchet is the best actor to play the character of Hercule Poirot, the legendary belgium detectiv created by Agatha Chirstie. David is a great actor and has an unsual ability to embody superbly, characters so diverse as the terrorist Nagi Hassan in "Excutive Decison" or the pimp Lew Vogel in "bank Job". A few years ago, the series HP was an abosolute success on TV.
@nudedudemale there are some Poirot films with PU. Guess u r not aware of that...
Death on the Nile, Appointment with Death, Evil under the Sun, Thirteen at Dinner, Dead Man's folly.. These all are Poirot based films with PU as Poirot.!!!!!!!!
Read this story many times, seen the Albert Finney version more than once, but this version still managed to get me on the edge of my seat. Well done all.
I saw this and at first was disappointed, but gradually realized it was just unexpected and eventually fully enjoyed it. It was very different and very well done.
omg is this out i didn't know i was waiting for david to film and act this book it was amazing brillian book i could believe it when he discovered eveerything about the murder and the crime i shoucked completley
@WladoTheAlphaChicken yes it is, the trailer was, in old films often made from original footage, to get it out early, and that is a classic example of mistake where they used footage where special effects had'nt been added yet!
I just watched it and I thought it was brilliant. Suchet is amazing as Poirot, he deserves an Emmy award for the final scene, and the rest of the cast is really good. Love love love it!!!
I've read the book, but not seen it on film. I love Suchet and his Poirot, but how can they put a story like this into the time slot and get it right? This contains many dramatic but inaccurate scenes. WHat's with the yelling and the scene of what he calls "justice"? Does somebody get beaten or something? Why not just a few minutes in "Stamboul" and then The Train?
The unfortunate thing about this is that "we" all compare it to the Albert Finney version. I say don't. Dark and brooding, this adaptation of the Christie story has been altered it's still a good story. The darkness of it is more in line with the nature of the piece than the light, star studded, fun Finney version in which everyone celebrates with Champagne at the end. Watch it for what it is and not for how it had once been done. BTW ... the Lady in the Kimono is in the Acorn version.
Roll Orient Express ! This is a brilliant trailer ! I cannot wait for it to be on TV & DVD in the UK ! Agatha Christies best novel and the definitive Poirot in David Suchet-whats not to like !?! MrShalago has done Poirot fans the world over a great service -thanks very much !
I am still wondering, why the lady in a scarlet kimono with dragons on it has been removed from the final version. She is to be seen on this preview anyway
This script wouldn't pass a secondary school exam for drama. Awful. Just plain awful. Suchet isn't bad and the second rate cast does the best they could. But this is a pathetic adaptation. The theme of justice is heavy handed. The computer lighting and effects are very poor as well. This is just a waste of time and money.
@chaosIsTheOnlyPower don't you dare insult Agtha Christie. There's a reason that the only things that have outsold her books are the bible and Shakespeare....
I can not wait to see this one, I read on wikipedia that they may not be doing the last few books. how can they make a program for 20 years and not make poirot's finale?
@JH55000 ITV are skint. David Suchet had to get things moving and find the money to get this made. By the time the economic situation improves he thinks he'll be too old to play the sleuth as Christie intended and get the funding to keep up the production values.
They always intended to keep the best to last but didn't foresee the financial crisis. Shame as there are only a few left to complete the set.
This was a stunning adaptation. Markedly different than the 1974 film. Much, much darker. Even with the plot changes from the novel, I thought it was extremely effective. As much as Brett is the standard of Holmes and Davison is the standard of Albert Campion, Suchet IS Poirot.
I thought this was a series ended years a go, watching this trailer, particularly unfinished footage showing green screens, make me glad because this genre IS NOT DEAD.
Okay. The version I saw tonight did not include the scarlet kimono, and yet here it is in this trailer! I'm just wondering - why was it cut from the final version? Or did PBS edit it out to cut down the adaptation to save time?
Oh, and watch for so many familiar faces from other Christie episodes, both Poirot stories and Marples. That's one of the things I enjoy most about these, seeing actors in one Christie and then another. As I said before, I am truly going to miss these shows when they run out of AC stories.
Fans of Poirot will love this! It's on PBS in the USA tonight, not sure about anywhere else in the world, but I have cable and could watch it early through On Demand. I have to say it was wonderful, and I cried at the end. Suchet is simply superb!
I'm already sad that we are running out of Poirots. I can't remember ever enjoying a performance as much as I've enjoyed Suchet's, and for so very long. But, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's "Murder on the Orient Express" and plan to watch it alone so no one will bother me, LOL. I only wish it were 100 hours long.
nothing new there then I only wish we had the respect to be shown clocks halloween party etc but because the Agatha Christie nam,e is owned by her family they only wish to make money not make the country she was so proud of able to see her work!!!!!!
this is available to buy on amazon.com on the 27th july in a box set with appointment with death and I think the third girl but that is how the Americans do it, I think you can purchase for about $44 not sure in English money about £30 already pre booke my copy as we know even though British author greatly admired the British public are treated like imbeciles and only shown when every other county on the planet has seen,
@Kimberleg Tomorrow night, July 11, at 8pm Central in the USA, on PBS. Watch Suchet travel on the real Orient Express on PBS's website right now. I watched it earlier this week and it was wonderful. Enjoy!
The shots of the Moving Train & in the cab, were filmed on the Nene Valley Railway in Peterborough at Castor, & Instabul station at Ferrmy Meadows again on the NVR.
The locomotive was British Railways Standard 5MT No.73050 City of Peterborough. and used our Rake of Belgian Coaches in the in-authentic CIWL Pullman Livery.
I would not say that this is Agatha Christie's most famous mystery. It is, perhaps, the second most famous mystery but not in the least MOST. That would of course be "And Then There Were None."
For me, no better Poirot than David Suchet, I refuse to watch any other actor playing Poirot! And I don't enjoy seeing him play another caracter. Love Him!
this will be airing in America in July or August and will go on sale at Amazon.com then so you can buy it, but when it will air in Britain I can not say.
@tv240 ITV1 lists it as airing June 19th at 2:30 PM. It will be available on DVD in a Poirot 3 movie pack in the USA on August 30th and on its own on Blu-ray in October 2010

WHY WHY WHY remakes WHY?!? The godamn film was already made and it was a success why redo it?????
sjpc33 1 year ago
Although this is a good enough adaptation with great cast, for some reason I still prefer the 1974 version. David is excellent though!

41 seconds in it says "Armstrong Girl Kidnaped' - isn't it supposed to be 'Kidnapped'?
PlayDaMan 1 year ago
@PlayDaMan "Kidnapped" can be spelled either way, but using only one 'p' is apparently common enough.

Read this story many times, seen the Albert Finney version more than once, but this version still managed to get me on the edge of my seat. Well done all.

I saw this and at first was disappointed, but gradually realized it was just unexpected and eventually fully enjoyed it. It was very different and very well done.

@stupidjunk978 Yup, it is! I kept an eye on that :)
WladoTheAlphaChicken 1 year ago
@WladoTheAlphaChicken yes it is, the trailer was, in old films often made from original footage, to get it out early, and that is a classic example of mistake where they used footage where special effects had'nt been added yet!

the movie is perfect....when i discover who is the criminal it was a shock for me.....the last 20 seconds are gorgeus.....when he start's to cry...

I just watched it and I thought it was brilliant. Suchet is amazing as Poirot, he deserves an Emmy award for the final scene, and the rest of the cast is really good. Love love love it!!!

This looks fantastic!
MustardLung 1 year ago
I've read the book, but not seen it on film. I love Suchet and his Poirot, but how can they put a story like this into the time slot and get it right? This contains many dramatic but inaccurate scenes. WHat's with the yelling and the scene of what he calls "justice"? Does somebody get beaten or something? Why not just a few minutes in "Stamboul" and then The Train?
step7jones 1 year ago
The unfortunate thing about this is that "we" all compare it to the Albert Finney version. I say don't. Dark and brooding, this adaptation of the Christie story has been altered it's still a good story. The darkness of it is more in line with the nature of the piece than the light, star studded, fun Finney version in which everyone celebrates with Champagne at the end. Watch it for what it is and not for how it had once been done. BTW ... the Lady in the Kimono is in the Acorn version.

This script wouldn't pass a secondary school exam for drama. Awful. Just plain awful. Suchet isn't bad and the second rate cast does the best they could. But this is a pathetic adaptation. The theme of justice is heavy handed. The computer lighting and effects are very poor as well. This is just a waste of time and money.
chaosIsTheOnlyPower 1 year ago
thos looks AMAZING! I've been waitinf for this!
MadameChristie 1 year ago
Junk adapted by some college student with an inflated sense of their own ability to present the concept of "justice" in a lightweight murder thriller.
The original novel is weak, the classic Hollywood adaptation with a few fun bits.
This has nothing except over-hyped self righteousness and some moody cinematography,
Crap. Really. Just crap. If you see something deeper, then you need to read a whole lot more and see whole lot more.
chaosIsTheOnlyPower 1 year ago
@chaosIsTheOnlyPower don't you dare insult Agtha Christie. There's a reason that the only things that have outsold her books are the bible and Shakespeare....
MadameChristie 1 year ago
I can not wait to see this one, I read on wikipedia that they may not be doing the last few books. how can they make a program for 20 years and not make poirot's finale?
JH55000 1 year ago
@JH55000 ITV are skint. David Suchet had to get things moving and find the money to get this made. By the time the economic situation improves he thinks he'll be too old to play the sleuth as Christie intended and get the funding to keep up the production values.
They always intended to keep the best to last but didn't foresee the financial crisis. Shame as there are only a few left to complete the set.
guyhowepharr 1 year ago
This was a stunning adaptation. Markedly different than the 1974 film. Much, much darker. Even with the plot changes from the novel, I thought it was extremely effective. As much as Brett is the standard of Holmes and Davison is the standard of Albert Campion, Suchet IS Poirot.

Okay. The version I saw tonight did not include the scarlet kimono, and yet here it is in this trailer! I'm just wondering - why was it cut from the final version? Or did PBS edit it out to cut down the adaptation to save time?
shantysleuth 1 year ago
Oh, and watch for so many familiar faces from other Christie episodes, both Poirot stories and Marples. That's one of the things I enjoy most about these, seeing actors in one Christie and then another. As I said before, I am truly going to miss these shows when they run out of AC stories.
lynfendleyfoster 1 year ago
Fans of Poirot will love this! It's on PBS in the USA tonight, not sure about anywhere else in the world, but I have cable and could watch it early through On Demand. I have to say it was wonderful, and I cried at the end. Suchet is simply superb!
lynfendleyfoster 1 year ago
I'm already sad that we are running out of Poirots. I can't remember ever enjoying a performance as much as I've enjoyed Suchet's, and for so very long. But, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's "Murder on the Orient Express" and plan to watch it alone so no one will bother me, LOL. I only wish it were 100 hours long.
