It used to bum me out when the CBC would sign off in the wee hours, sometimes not even the wee hours as it would only be a bit past midnight some nights. Now that they are broadcasting 24/7 I kind of miss the national anthem sign-offs.
@zibbyzubb I wholly and unequivocally concur with everything here. I miss the Bombardier Via train, the Canadarm and the Toronto ferry footage, found on another signoff anthem. The nostalgia is most comforting everytime I see it. Youtube prolongs this nostalgia.
I remember seeing this from my home in Texas in the old days when we had a big C-Band satellite dish.....I recall seeing this when CBC French signed on for the day.

If I remember correctly, this rendition was also used in the Opening Ceremony of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montréal.

The french channel still signs off, but the rest of the stations just play infomercials all night LOL

you're right. Radio-Canada (CBC in french) still signs-off but no longer the english one. They air all night since October 9,2006.
