Izotope Vocal Remover

I have great results with this. Use it with Sony Sound Forge to remove vocals. Results depends on how good the original mix was done on the song you choose. The better the vocal was panned in the center and the less effects used on the vocal, it will almost completely remove it. What is good about this vocal remover is that the music is still in stereo after removing the vocal unlike most other vocal removers that leave the music in mono.

has anyone tried using software to spread out the stereo of the song as much as possible while keeping the vocals in the middle, and then removing them? this way the instruments will be very stereo, and the vocals will be kept center for removal.

its not free, and it only reduces the vocals .....No vocal remover can completely eliminate the vocals!

i just got this in my Sony Vegas 10 with Sound Forge. I was really frustrated at first with it but it does work 'ok' if you try every preset setting for every song. No songs are mixed the same and you will almost never be able to isolate just the vocal or just the music. Some can get pretty close. Use the preview setting and experiment a lot.

Removing vocals is like an impossible task for this kind of software. I'm sure you would just get lame flanging effects. :( Phase cancellation is so much more effective if you have the instrumental alternate.

If anyone's used this, I'm curious how well it's worked?

for those who thinks it's phase cancellation: it's not. With phase cancellation you can suppress but not isolate vocals. It's vocal frequency notching most likely with FFT.

If you can supress the vocals from a track with any method, you can also find the suppressed part with a simple difference.

Btw, frequency notching for vocal track would be a crap solution (especially with fricative letters), any stochastic LPC analyses would make a better job.

I get a similar result playing with the phase switches in my console. It's center channel cancellation. It eats up bits of the snare and bass, too, as heard on the demo

It only works well on certain recordings... plus more and more these days it doesn't work because the way vocal effects are set up on a track. You can also do it for free by doing a phase cancellation trick with just a free basic audio editor like Audacity. There are other videos on youtube explaining how to do this... but still, often times it doesn't work well.. Depends on how the song was recorded.

You'll actually find that Izotope VocalRemover is a plugin for Sound Forge Audio Studio 9... It is not available as a standalone, it has to be used with Sound Forge.

It could also be used as part of an SDK development kit. Wish I knew more about the process of getting it.

Ive tried this, and i will honestly tell you it fails hard compared to the setup i currently use.

The only thing special about this addon, is that it adds precision to the base and drums, but as far as vocal removing, no ( ghost effect ).

Again, in conclusion if you dont have the Master Reel/Tracks from the studio, it aint happening.

iZotope came free with Sound Forge, but it's a little crap. Mono left-channel inverting works best.
