i have a superfish xl. don't buy the poly. glass is thin and it dings very easily. shape is sick though. might buy an epoxy slightly smaller to replace it.
This board losses all it's speed on a cutback because it has no flex to it. But it's super fast down the line and can get moving quick. Don't expect any wrap arounds and it does not like going vertical. It's best to do quick snaps and super easy to break loose as a quad. You can make huge sections as this thing is great for floaters.
I used to surf and getting back into after YEARS off. I was told a fish was good for me by some, and a Funboard by others.
I'm in SoCAL, 5'9' 185 pounds. I thought, why not get a combo of the two so I am seriously considering a Superfish. Talking to dealers here in Los Angeles right now.
Im selling my Superfish XL 8' on ebay right now- to get another Superfish- theyre unreal!
Hope you dont mind me posting here but im only selling to buy a smaller superfish and hope to pass on this board to another. The 8' is awesome- a great step down board from beginner or longboard and it really does fly when paddling.
Check out my ebay listing under 'Superfish Xl Surfboard 8'0 Plus Bag!' -- comes with a board bag too!
i have had this board as a 5' 9" for a couple years and its GREAT. By far my favorite out of my quiver. I have ridden this thing in everything from 2 foot windslop to hollow, shallow 6 foot beachbreak tubes. It has great drive and turns great, and the stepdeck works wonders to help catch waves. I would HIGHLY recommend this board to anyone who wants a good shortboard/fish hybrid. If I could only have one board, this would be it.
@ghfjdksla2 i recently bought a 5'9 aswell. im pretty comfortable on it but acnd decide if i should be riding it as a quad fin or thruster, any recomendations?
@95tomn i prefer to ride it as a thruster, but you should try out both and see what you prefer. It really is personal preference as both work in the same range of waves
@LittleMurkk my buddy has this board. he says he likes it. It's really skatey and rides a lot like a skateboard. its pretty reasonable for the price but if you are really looking into getting a well made fish look into the "lis fish". Steve Lis is the original creator of the fish shape and basically makes a beast board!
what do you expect this guy is a pro... i got the same board and not even close to doing some of the cut backs he does on here..hopefully in a near future, its a great board. so fast i ride it as a twin fin more loose...
"@Cayne590 was so close to getting this but i bought a quad 6'0 fish . Its epoxy so it doesnt really take damage :] " ok this cayne kid didnt even buy the board and he keeps talk crap about it , thats what he said on the first page a year ago
@longboardlesage Not were i was at, the inside was breaking at 8, the outside at crescent was breaking around 12-14 with the occasional 15. You dont know, you werent there? So stop fucking talking.
hey guy, lost redux the surfing movie, about surfing fishes, watch it, lose your negativity man:) It's all thats stopping you from riding a fish rail2rail, top to bottom with little effort on 14ft faces that's usually towed, like i did early last year, march2009 on the west coast of SA at Platbank, changed my surfing! the stepdeckfish was like a gun on the paddle and with the solid rail i could hold the outside rail for more than 2sec when cutting back. & I had a 6'2retrofish. go surf for FUN:)

hahah your an idiot. an ignorant one ta boot. ive surfed these boards....just ordered a 6'0" but surfed the 5'9",6'0", and the 6'3". the 6.3 is to big and thick. the other 2 are quite honestly the best boards ive ridden. ive took them out to the north shore ( hawaii) where i live every year. surfed them up to where i should have been surfing a gun. ive also surfed in south shore (hawaii) 2 foot mush. properly sized with someone with halfway decent SKILL these boards RIPPPPP.
ive surfed it, they suck, and your stupid for surfing a fish in big surf. Stop being one of those stupid fuckers that comments every video, trying to be cool. No one cares what you do.
I bought the 6'3 super fish and a week later the leash ripped through the bottom of the board. could dent it with my thumb, and cracks were forming around the heel dents. that being said i called 7S and they replaced it with an epoxy. if your going to by a 7S buy an epoxy its worth it.
agreed. ive only surfed the epoxy versions. they float awesome despite being ( to me anyway) on the heavy side. never affected the performance of the board. but nigh indestructable. my buddy got ROLLED on the reef on the north shore (hawaii) at rockys .....board had two tiny scratches after getting dragged 30 feet on the reef with shoulder high inside sets punding it.
NO!!! this board rippps i would never pay for a brand new board. i own my own fiberglass repair business....i buy and sell baords all the time...these boards farkkkin rippppp. i dont think they are beginner boards though. its like....after youve surfed a fish and shortboards and your looking for that all around board with the best of both worlds. this board is fast and punchy. if you get it too early you may be frustrated.
@jeridHawaii Why might you be frustrated, i thought the idea of the step deck and template was to maintain the bonuses of a fish (high wave count) but maintain good manouverability etc? I thought this was supposed to be nice and easy to paddle? Coming from a 6.3/18.5/2.25 shortboard for example to maybe a 6.0 superfish? Cheers, Freegs

Is it a 6'0 or 6'3 the one in the video? Would it be too big a 6'8 for a newbie surfer?
