he had psoriasis. he had to take medicine that made him gain weight and he also smoked. it was obviously a combination of those things. he also had psoriatic arthritis which is most likely why he used 8 gauge strings and guitars with such low action.

I've just been to see Joe Satriani in Manchester yesterday evening and Paul opened the show with a fantastic 45 minute set. He plays the guitar the way it is meant to be played. Listened to him for years but never witnessed a live show. He was sensational and this song performed live almost brought me to tears. Sheer brilliance.
