I don't think you get how government works. We give them money, and they in turn provide services. You in Canada get taxed by 50% because your government has to pay for a very expensive health care plan, roadways, military, etc. The way democracy works is that if the majority of the citizens decide they dislike high taxes and gov't services, then they will vote for people who want to drastically lower them both.
