  • Who the hell is Joy and Easy L. Lol anyone got links

  • damn, hiphop was all about having fun in the 80s.

  • classic

  • its amazing to hear a rappers very first time rapping and then compare it to now after they become famous, (and hopefully a lot better)

  • I'm more of a mid 90s guy myself but hip hop was so fun back in the 80s.

  • I was only 2 in '86

  • @DaMostEnigmatic i was -6 in '86 :D

  • Jay-z was born in 1969

  • narduar sent me here

  • like this beat ! b boy stand up!

  • I wonder if he recited this from the top

  • Who is that in the pic? that doesn't look like Jaz

  • It was cool as hell to work AND know these guys back in the day! My "Get Live" label mates!! I'll never forget bringing them (HP AND Fresh Gordon) to the Pittsburgh Colliseum for our show called the New York Connection!

  • @Lonnie3d Hey do you have any more music from then? And thank you for sharing hip hop history! Please share more!

  • @Habib24202

It's crazy how much further Jay peers were like LL, Rakim, Kane, etc even tho he was they age. They were so much further that Jay got grouped with Nas and BIG. Talk about the greatest turn around in history.

  • shits awesome

  • exclusive some times olusive

  • Dam man, Shawn came a long way........

  • Imagine if jay blew up in 86'. man....

  • This is pretty amazing, good work on bringing this to the public, but this pic is from 1988 and the song is from 85/86.

  • well i couldnt find a pic for 86....its close enough lol

  • So.....and ur point?

  • i was making a point now? lol.....when did that happen?

  • It's always interesting to hear a rapper's earliest work.

  • @hasafienda definitely

  • No disrespect, but just because an artist was out first, doesn't take away from the fact that they may have bit off of another artists' bar, couple of bars, or verse later on. If Rakim (Greatest Rapper Ever) or KRS-One, bit off of something that Jay-z said today, it would still be considered "Bittin'" Or does Jay-z just get a pass in your opinion? Judging from your picture, it looks like you're from Brooklyn, LOL. Is it favoritism that I'm smelling? Just kidding.

  • judging by your pictures....your...sexy.

  • the nigga was 17!!!

  • and goes to show you cats, that Jay has been doing this rap thing for a long time my friend, even before BIG before Pac.....before alot of artists.

So the next time someone says that Jay-Z bit this person or bit hat person....remember this song.

    peace

  • Not that I was on the bandwaggon of the whole Jay-Z biting shit because i found that more of a sign of respect than anything but it doesn't matter if he came out before whomever, if he takes a line of a rapper than he reuses it, it's still consider biting.

  • the every rapper/emcee that you ever heard....is a biter. end of story.

  • i see what ur saying but also u gotta keep in mind Jay-Z was born before a lot of those artists but they all started at roughly the same ages just maybe a year or so apart...or maybe not he might have just been the first before dudes like big pac etc to press a record..and just b/c someone was pressing records doesnt mean they never borrowed lines in their career.. but it is dope hearing a young Jay on a song- i always like hearing early work and comparing it to current stuff

  • damn jay-z was only 17 lol

  • I thought I'd seen it all but this 86 joint trumps them all. Original material great upload habib

  • wow

  • this is da shit

  • THIS RECORD WAS NOT RELEASED IN 78-79 RSUN IS A DUMMY - this came out in 1985 i went to the record store and bought this and thought it was wack as hell then i sold it online for $50 jay z wasnt running nothing in 1978-79 except do do out of his pampers dummy hes just hitting 40 years old do your math fool

  • WEW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lol damn u told him!!!

  • WOW! I had COMPLETELY forgotten about this one. This was around the time I first started learning how to scratch. My cousin had this album(much love for my fam, Cedric Chaffold).

  • damn.. you took that pic from my archives .. .. he was in trenton at BT's lounge in that pic

  • that is correct. when Jay when was OT

  • im exclusive some time ulushive

  • classic joint i guess no one though he would be a mugal lol

  • what happened to the other members Joy & LB?

  • this is a CLASSIC!!!!! Wow lol

  • ahah no jay was out in da streets every one knows dat

  • anybody who thinks Jay-Z wasn't in the streets need to REALLY do their research.

  • word, the Jigga-man was running shit in BK circa 1978-79.

  • On the Ludacris song 'I do it for hip hop', Jay-Z credits Jaz for introducing him to hip hop in his verse, he mentions people who influenced him as a youngster and then said "EVEN JAZ BUM ASS"

I'm not being a JAY HATER, I never said he wasn't a good rapper. I'm just saying that Jay-Z switched his style several times and probably LIED about selling drugs. A lot of rappers bend the truth in order to project a gangsta image.

  • I'm a good friend of Jazz and Jay-z and was in our friend Gordon Pickett's recording studio/House when most of all the early demos were done. Jay-z did not lie about selling drugs, almost everybody the hood sold drugs when they felt they needed to.

  • I believe you. Its just that these young cats dont understand what you just said.

  • @kell7wlt yea but he wasnt a boss like he said he was

  • @kell7wlt Jay-z did fuck Jaz over though

  • jaz rapped differnt from 86-89 yo S. was there for that shit jaz may have brout S. up but they came up with that orignaters-show and prove shit together S. never stops evolving from pass the roc to go hard

  • about selling drugs never said he wasn' rappers bend the truth in order ho influenced him as a youngster With Shamari Talking About Jaz-O people said

  • Dehaven said he did hustle wit them and

they been spendin money since 88' like in jay-z dead pesidents 2 song referring to seeehorn

  • Call Out Xzibit Pras Canibus Pharoahe Monch DJ Quik Method Man Trick Daddy Joe Budden DMX Lil Wayne Lil' Romeo Josh Peck Twista

  • Jaz-O Sound Like Pras

  • AaliyahJayz4life, type in 'Chris H Interview With Dehaven Talking about Jay-Z' in the 'search box', you will find a video of Dehaven saying Jay-Z never hustled, he just hung around guys who did and then claimed to do it in his records.

Also, I'm the one who called Jay-Z a STUDIO GANGSTA, Eazy-E used that term for Dr.Dre because Dre was making disco music in the early 80's and then became a COMPTON GANGSTA in 1989. Jay-Z did something similar, so I refer to him as a Studio Gangsta.

  • and do we really believe that R&B singers make love to different women all the time and get heartbroken all the time? It's image....whatever is popular is what will sell...even if it ain't true to the seller

  • Not Bad...Old School Boom Bap HipHop.

  • Damn, this is good for the books.

    Much Love.

  • lol why Jay had to leave his MENTOR IN THE DUST?!?!?!?!?!

damn, I hope is all a real reason behind it and not just a money thing...because if it ain't then Jay is lookin mighty un-loyal.

  • wow sooo young..hahah

  • The reason people are now saying Jay-Z IS A STUDIO GANGSTA is because youtube is a huge part of pop-culture and we can now see ALL the videos that expose Jay-Z. Whether its Jay-Z wearing Hawaiin shirts in 1988(Hawaiin Sophie) or doing the Nubian/Black Power stuff in 1989(The Originators).

Also, Dehavan and Jaz-O have called out Jay-Z, in addition to Nas. I don't blame Jay-Z for becoming a Studio Gangsta, when he was being a true hip hop artist and not a GANGSTA MINSTREL he wasn't popular.

  • A hawaiian shirt? How does that make you a studio gangsta? And even if it did, he was wearing it for the video!!!! I mean, I probably won't convince you, and when it comes down to it, none of this matters because he's worth many millions of dollars and is probably on a a tropical island having sex with Beyonce as I type this

  • Dehaven said jay was disloyal jaz said jay was disloyal nas never knew jay before rap learn the difference between fake and disloyal before making comments they NEVER said jay didn't live his raps they said jay-z was a disloyal friend they NEVER! said he was a studio gangster they said they were no longer cool with each other listen with comprehension next time

  • Thank u soooo fuckiin much 4 puttin it out there. Im Jays biggest fan and i get tired of people not givin him his props just cuz their favorite rapper sucks or is dead. As much beefs Jay been in you NEVER heard other rappers say he wasnt in the streets. They night say yeah Jay use Biggie rap line but they never ever say he wasnt in the streets. Youtube Jay haters forget the fact that we dont know these people personally

  • yea man people need to respect talent i mean he stole from biggie i mean rappers bit off each all the time and what about the people that stole whole verses from him. and he didnt sell his soul either the game just changed

  • Jay Z Calls Out Canibus

  • i call bullshit, or give a link

  • NOW people wanna sit up here and say jay is fake? lol nigga jay been rapping for 13 years if he fake why haven't he been called out even his enemies co-signed dude just cause he rich and he's all over tv don't mean he aint shawn from marcy projects yall kids are so ass backwards this nigga talking about some damn ether nigga nas was from queens how the hell esco know what jay did back in the day in Bk? for the sake of logic act like you have a fucking brain

  • you can't count this it's almost 2009 do the math 1986 til now is ???

  • he sound so young

  • Ok...let's get this straight...now I'm not a fan of TI, but he is a G. He was a felon before he even started rapping and he's from the fuckin' projects!

And Jay-Z was coming up during the crack epidemic..he was growing up in THE PROJECTS in BROOKLYN during the CRACK EPIDEMIC...

Now of course, they exaggerate about how much money they made...but I think they really did hustle.

  • Now are these facts or just some bullshit that U were feed and ate? I think you should check out Shawty LO and you will probably have a clearer picture. All the realest rappers are underground and locally respected.

  • lol, dog I got family in Brooklyn, and all over New York.

and all the "realest" rappers are underground because most of them cant blow up, you don't thnik TI and Jay-Z were once underground?

  • You wont rap about being a gangster or selling drugs till you stop or actually want to get caught! Jay was real!!!

  • You could also rap about selling drugs or being a gangster because you know its will sell lots of records. To me, it's real easy to figure out, what kind of rappers get more respect/money Kanye West or Lupe Fiasco rapping about thought-provoking/non-threatening things or Jay-Z, Jim Jones, TI and 50 Cent rapping about being a gangster?? Most times the gangsters get more respect and money.

  • Yeah, i see your point.

You really gotta have something special if you wanna make it as an rapper witouth stories about selling drugs/murder and such.

Lupe & Kanye got something special which makes them stand out.

These dudes is all about the music instead of image.

Like Jay said in 30 Something:

"Y'all respect the one who got shot, I respect the shooter"

  • mddarch, it was a misguided poster who originally brought up the racial stuff. He claimed I didn't know hip hop so I must be white. A "wasted" white guy got mad and responded to him. I responded to the "wasted" white guy, he seemed to be very upset about the "white people don't know hip hop" stuff. My original post just said Jay-Z was a phony, which he is!!

  • 1:32 that nikkuh name is "Almond Joy"?? LMBAO!!! The one-finger keyboard bassline on the chorus is so ridiculous! Gotta love the 80's.

  • damn jay-z has been in the game for a long time, its amazing how far he has come

  • sugawolf and others, don't get mad at me for what I say about Jay-Z being a PHONY. Remember, Nas was saying that about him in Ether before he joined forces with him. It's obvious to me that most of these pre-1996 songs/videos of Jay-Z are being posted on Youtube to show what a phony he is.

Also, don't take my comments about Jay-Z the wrong way. He's definitely one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Even as a 17-year-old in this song, you could see his greatness.

  • ok your saying Jay-Z is a phony but u don't tell us why. Jay-Z is one of the handful of rappers who always speaks the truth in his lyrics. Plz tell me a song where Jay-Z was lying out his ass!!!

  • The song H to the Izzo, Jay-Z claims to have sold crack and gone to Maryland(home of the Terrapins) to sell drugs. In the song 'You don't know', Jay-Z says he came into the game 200 grand strong from drug dealing. In the song 'Girls, Girls', he claims his hood chick would hide the drugs from the narcs. That's just a few examples. Jay-Z wasn't GANGSTA until 1996!!

Don't get mad at me, Nas was the first one to call out Jay-Z for being a STUDIO GANGSTA on Ehter in 2001.

  • Jay is probably 1 of the few who really sold drugs.

You got Rick Rossed or something.

You might didnt even know that Jay shot his own brother over a ring when he was 12.

Jay doesnt like to talk about it in public all the time instead of guys like 50 Cent who would talk about it to prove they hard.

Thats 1 of those reasons why we believe Jay's story is real.

  • It's not just Rick Ross, its Dr.Dre(a SHE THING), Cassidy, TI, and some others I can't think of right now. All these "gangstas" have had rappers call them fake. Jay-Z may not discuss shooting his brother, but he discusses selling drugs on a bunch of songs(starting in 1996). That makes him just like 50 Cent and the rest.

  • Jay Z With Canibus

  • Wearing Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars, no jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case, just Hawaiian shirts...

  • i would agree but there is only one problem. I wasnt there. I would like to think that Jay-Z had some gangsta about him to survive in Brooklyn during the crack era.

  • Jay-Z must be embarassed that all these old, unreleased songs of him having a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT rap style are now on youtube. Nas was right he said about him on Ether. At the time(2001) not many people knew he was telling the truth.

Did this ever get released as a single?? What happened with the other guys in this group? Easy LD sounds like 'Play' from Kid N Play.

  • you have to remember that this was 22 years ago man, theres no shame in your style evolving through time. Your persona and image are affected by so many different factors and hip hop was a completely different game back then. I'm not saying this is good but Jay has shown a lot of growth..

on another note this is possibly the worst beat i've ever heard, it makes my ears bleed

  • It looks as if Jay-Z's persona and image were affected by SELLING OUT to the record companies by switching his rap style and claiming to be a hustler.

Youtube EXPOSES Jay-Z as a FAKE GANGSTA because there is a bunch of music Jay-Z did before 1996(when he became a hustler on Reasonable Doubt)and he makes NO MENTION OF running the streets hustlin. In the 1990's, East Coast rappers claimed to be gangsta all of a sudden. Jay-Z was one of them.

  • jay actually got down in the streets idiotHow do you think he met X and Master P.if Quan from Virginia testified to Jay's hustlin days because he used to be down south and here in Baltimore. If your going to hate then back it up with facts at least.

  • Man shut your dumb ass up.Jay is a legend and should be as respected as Rakim and G Rap whom which he out lasted.Thie mans roots go deeper than Nas' in Hip-Hop and regardless of if you like him or not you have to respect how far he has come. He's the reason why rappers can actually prosper and get major business deals.

  • Nemron, you want to talk facts. Let's see in this 1986 song, Jay-Z and HP is sounding like Run DMC. In 1988, Jay-Z is ripping of the Fresh Prince in Hawaii Sophie. From 1989-1994,Jay-Z is rapping fast on records(Originators, Can I Get Open). In 1996, Jay-Z becomes a hustler. Jay-Z stuck with the HUSTLER GIMMICK because that makes the most money.

You can believe in Jay-Z HUSTLER GIMMICK all you want. We can click on the videos in the 'related videos' section and see the truth about Jay-Z!!

  • u sound like a fucking moron !!!!! do u know what a hustler is ? jay z borrowing styles and switching up swagger is a hustle. u sound mad retarded man . its like hiphop has different rules or something . u sound like a white dude or something .. when keeping it real goes wrong

  • Yeah sugawolf6, I'm reading what you wrote compared to what I have written and you're just WAY too smart for me. Maybe I can be as smart as you one day!!!

Jay-Z fanatics you all need to realize that Jay-Z is a POSER just like most of the rappers are. The rappers and WHITE record execs realize that being a STUDIO GANGSTA is the best way to make money because MORONS like sugawolf6 will believe them and buy their records.

  • hey faggit, i like jay z hes pretty dope, but uh, what the fuck is wrong with being white...?

  • maybe u should mind ur biz dick breath . u not that daft . figure out what context i meant it . my commnet is still below seehorns . is not a rap riddle. not even gonna bother with his ; and ur reply for that matter .

  • blah blah blah.. wtv it pissed me off.. sick of ppl sayin whites hav no say in hiphop..

  • didnt really mean it that way . sounded kinda harsh ..my bad . its just the whole thing with rap ... aint that serious .. its entertainment u know since when did anything have to be real or fake . tired of people fronting like ohh this cat is fake and this guy is the truth .. its all fake its all entertainment but no one is gettin cool points for declaring it . lets just enjoy it or give it a pass

  • cmac, always remember that these "hardcore" rappers most likely have white lawyers, white accountants, and white guys producing their videos!! They also send their kids to predominately white private schools as well. You're probably a regular on youtube and should realize that a LOT of people who comment on youtube do not THINK before they write.

  • i dont rlly care to be honest, i was really smashed on friday wen i posted those both..lol

  • im sorry but i couldnt let u get away with sounding so stupid . non of my biz .. do u

  • this was a reply to seehorn not u cmac . peace

  • This is some wild shit right here. Jay Rappin over some New Edition soundin track is just funny as hell to hear after listening to the Jay that the public has known him to be

  • MMpph whoa

  • how'd jay's voice change that much

  • lol this beat is halarious

  • holy fuck i was born in 87 ... man this is old

  • shit is kinda dope

  • WOW! That's some real OFFICIAL Bed Stuy throwback hip hop for yo ass! Sounds like cats from the BX back in the dayz. Damn Jay, you been doing this for a minute. '86! You was around when Stetsasonic was doin' it from BK. DAYUMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is real old school school, Jay was 17 but he sounds younger. Jaz-o taught him the marcy style

  • if any1 can understand the lyrics can u please reply? thx

  • you must be from down south.....NY RAP RULES

  • no i understand a lot of it but some i dont understand

it would kinda be easier if they were written down

  • i've got half of this on tape from a john peel show in 86.

for years and years i trid to get it on wax and then finally fond an mp3 link to it at cocaineblunts site.

i used to love this shit and ask people if they knew about it for years after and all the time i didn't even know Jay z was on it.

  • "you say u been in it 10, well i been in it 5"

    more like 14 years...

  • yea its been like over 20 years now lol.

  • 1st jigga track on wax

  • damn, jay-z was young as hell back then.

  • dam he need 2 make sum mo shit lik dis lol

  • jay should have jaz by his side stayin paid im starting to loose respect for jay never forget who gave you your start in this shit and where the fuck you you came from fuck jay

  • Yep, that was Nas' point on Ether. He was just ridin niggas with no loyalty to anybody. He went from ridin Jaz-O, to Kane (He used to be in Big Daddy Kane's crew, look up the song Show N Prove) to Biggie. Ofcourse if Biggie had lived he would have outshined Jay anyway so that one wouldn't have been an issue.

  • hater

  • a grown man should never be up under another grown man to keep him paid. i don't really see where you're comin' from, cause from the way shit played out, it was Jaz who popped up talkin' all that "I made Jay, I showed him how to do this, I used to drive him around" sh*t. Jay always gave Jaz his props up until that point when Jaz started talkin' all in the magazines.

  • This gave me chills......

  • So Jaz-o was the first to tongue twist? Who else did that in the 80s? He and Jay are the ORIGINATORS...!

  • young mc

  • wow

    this is ultra rare

  • i dont post much but where n da hell u getting this shit from i thought i heard every hov song but its like you got me faded anyway though keep it up, n come wit some mo unreleased shit from real hip hop artist, ONE!!!

  • get the fuck out of here no fuckn way keep the unrealesd shit comin firsttime hearing this good vibes HIPhop its i bit distorted some one should shine and pollish it im going to show every hiphop head i know espeshaly the haters bitches

  • i think i understand what you meant

  • Jays been doing it since the beginning of Hip-Hop.

This was Jays first official song.

  • well sort of the beginning....

  • Jay said he was around 9 years old when he started writing rhymes.

Since the first hiphop records got recorded.

He even was into records as a kid.

  • Yeah thats true - Jay is hip hop no doubt

    this joint is crazy

  • hey beside the foundation what else u got form jaz-o??

  • i think thats it

  • dam jay-z was 17 on this one, this is probably the earliest material from him known to anyone.
