  • My brothers BMW got hit by a train, and if you looked on the inside, you couldn't even tell anything was wrong with it. It's amazing how safe a BMW is.

  • This is NOT Euro Ncap, as it says at the beginning of the video, it is the U.S's Version called Insurance Institue For Highway Safety, Euro Ncap, as the name says, is for EUROPE and for LEFT hand vehicles only, and goes in MPH NOT KPH and has a different marking scheme!

  • A very safe and quite good looking and luxurious and fuel efficient car. Well done BMW.

  • wow, all the bags went off. fixing just that is gonna cost u if u had leather...

maybe u shouldve bought a volvo, they even stop themselves in the ncap testing lol, now they have to go 62 mph in order to impact at 40

  • Thanks

  • I would hate to be in the car being hit by that thing...

Some of these makers are doing it wrong, they are adding strength WAY forward of where it should be.

The passenger compartment is not being strengthened as much as the forces from the front are being directed to the "floor pan" sooner.

A modern car hitting an older car is very disastrous for the older car. The newer car will often suffer little damage due to a poorly designed crumple zone.

Cars are being built to pass this test! Crap!

  • "A modern car hitting an older car is very disastrous for the older car."

Sounds like a good way to sell new cars to safety-concerned consumers.

  • What in the world are you talking about? Are you a vehicle designer or a vehicle safety consultant for a large automobile company? You realize this test is essentially crashing into a wall in which doesn't occur much in the real world? By your reasoning, you want no strength in front of you but only for a hard passenger cage. So you want to go from 60mph to 0 with NOTHING to absorb the energy but you. I'd much rather have the energy redirected to the side mirrors as long as it's not going to me.

  • No, you misunderstand.

If you look at the front structure of these vehicles you will realize that the car is designed to give very little in a crash. Volvo proved that this is the wrong way to go about it.

You have to become progressively more rigid so that the vehicle stops more gently, and that the impacted object ( vehicle/human ) is dealt a less severe load.

A car hit by this behemoth will be in big trouble. Indeed, hitting a tree in this car would also not be as survivable as a Volvo.

  • I apologize. Point taken.

  • No prob :-)

  • salesperson?

  • @looncraz i'd rather be in this car!!!

  • @whattheheck1000 I hate to agree with you. If ALL you care about is yourself, then you would certainly prefer being in this car rather than many others. BUT, that really depends on what your hitting... Against a tree, I'll take a softer-fronted car, against another car... give me a tank and we'll use the other guy as a crumple zone!

  • This is IIHS test not ncap. ncap disable the side gardins so you can se the test result of the crash. lol

  • I love BMW 3 series very much

  • we have one and its awesome

  • i have an e46 but they are prone to quite a few problems

  • cant top the germans their smart.

  • German Cars are the best cars.

Merceders, BMW, Porsche, Maybach and Audi are probably under the 10 best cars in the world. =D

  • @MarcelAndreRuWo

    That's Right ! (And you've forgot Volkswagen) ^^

  • WTF?!?! I totally can't imagine that BMW 3 series protects the driver and passengers so much! Way to go BMW!!!

  • Man... I thought someone mixed 600 liters of cola with 2 kg mentos in there.. but then realized it was airbags

  • Now that is how a crash should look! Look at all those air bags!!!

  • who gives a shit?

  • mint, damn you should've got a 328 - 335i!

  • That looks pretty good. Nice car, BMW.

  • Хороший показатель!

  • soon they will have to increase the speed cos almost all cars are getteng 5 stars nowadays. 75 - 80 km/h would be fine

  • impressive. anyone know why the test is always done off center. why are none of these full head on?

  • This makes it harder for the car to do well and also most accidents aren't head on.

  • In this IIHS test 40% of the front of the car strikes a deformable barrier simulating a crash where a car strays across the centre line and hits another car driver's side to driver's side. Its harder to do well in because only approximately 40% of the car's structure is used to absorb the energy-putting that small portion under more stress. Its a better test of the cars structure than a head on test into a wall which doesn't test the structure, only the restraints.

  • not too strong. u can crash it into wall 80 km/h and walk away

  • f*cking hells bells, thats amazing :o i wonder how much faster you could push it....i mean the body looks to be in good standing

  • WTF ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? YOU DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT CRASH TESTS

    THIS IS IIHS I I H S

    EURONCAP IS LIKE THIS E U R O N C A P

Dont upload videos when you dont know the title

    ASSHOLE

  • dont give yourself a heart attack over this, jeez

  • THIS REALLY PISS ME OFF YOU DICKHEAD

  • psycho much...and how was this video stolen or in shit quality? its fine with me

  • EVEN if HE STOLE THE VIDEO AND GOT IT IN SHIT QUALITY

  • good

  • Talk about stiff chassis. Absolutely no radial flex.

  • Volvos are nice too

  • very good

  • this is so drastically different than that cherry chinese piece of shit. that's why i buy european cars. i wanna walk away alive. rember the "stuff happens" vw commercial? can you imagine if that was a chinese car?

  • Compare this with the chinese cars

  • Lol never those chinese cars are made of paper ^^

  • no, chinese cars are made of sh*t.

  • The title is misleading! There is nothing Euro NCAP about this crash test. Using that term simply because they use the same speed doesn't make them the same. It seems like this is the U.S. Highway safety test instead.

  • Now this is where the other portion of what you pay goes.. safety.. Ford are cheap coz... you get the picture

  • If I was going to crash it would have to be in this car. Look at all the soft pillows!

  • ford are safety..i have a focus, well, i had a focus and it is too safe.. it safes my life, that´s all,i had an accident with other car front to front, very serious, the other one dies..it´s all about i can tell about the focus. but bmw it´s bmw..i prefer to a ford hahaha! there are no volvo desigenrs in bmw, there are bmw designers haha

  • Wow, crashing in a BMW looks like an absolute pleasure.

  • it is! lol

  • BMW <3

  • SAFE!! this is why bmw have volvo designers now!

  • safety first

  • Isn't this an IIHS Test?

  • even doesnt affect after front tire

  • now THATS a safe car..are you taking notes ford?

  • ford sucks

  • german engineering, i like

  • Sweet!

  • Check out the 2007 mustang. The airbag doesnt even inflate. Ford is Pathetic. This BMW did very well. So much for american safety huh?

  • just saw it, wouldnt wanna be in that convertible!

  • Volvo + BMW + Mercedes + Renault + Saab are all very safe. Toyota's are quite good aswell.

  • honda is also fine

  • german people rule in making cars

    BUY GERMAN (but buy expensive)

  • Quality vehicle... I got a 530d and I'm well happy with it.

  • im willing to have a seat in there

  • amazin secure cars! :O!!!!!! IM IMPRESSED

  • BMW always produced safe cars.

  • the cabin stayed very solid that is safe

  • a sexy car gone to waste. =[

  • البى ام تاكسى يابن الجاموسة

  • ole

  • I think this goes to show the importance of having a 5-star car. I was involoved in a motorway crash recently at around 60mph and if we had not been in a 5*car, I dread to think what could have happened to us..

  • I wa sinvolved in a horrific crash in my Audi S3 on a country lane in England 3 weeks ago. Broke my shoulder but am still alive. I keep telling myself how lucky I was to be in a well built German car than some tinpot car. It saved my life but i really miss my car. Insurance won't pay for it because i didn't have full insurance coverage.

  • BMW German taxi ha ha lol

  • hahaha lol=) tell that to people in north america. they think it's the greatest thing. I'm a SAAB guy. I like Volvo too but definitely SAAB.

  • volvo have the bst crash test facility in the world therefor making the safest cars....SAAB use volvo crash center... so if i wanted to live i'd have 1 lol

  • Excellent. Almost at Mercedes or Volvo levels.

  • Benzes and Volvo are great, but a BMW is just as good.

  • And so is Audi

  • that's one way to kill a bmw.

  • safe car..

  • 5 stars in euroncap chrashtest xD

  • this is iihs

  • Yeah. It even says right in the beginning that this is an IIHS test not Euro NCAP

  • why the hell did the curtain airbags deploy?

  • because the airbags are supposed to deploy during an accident

  • yeah the front ones. the curtains only go off when the car is hit on the side or rolls over

  • that was the old design, now they go off so that you wont hit the side window and F-up your head.

  • now that you crashed it, could you please let me pick it up from your place,.

  • No dont crash that give it to me :):):):)

  • WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO TO MY BIMMER! LOL you where just supost to go to micky Ds for some buggers.

  • Thats An American Crash Test - Their Concrete Block Is Harder Than Euro NCAP Which Means That Different Forces Are Put On The Car

  • safe

  • first of all this isn't a test done by euro ncap... second of all here are many cars safer than this so call bmw for a cheaper price and try and remeber no matter how safe this car is, people just fail to realise these test are done only at 40 mph or 65 kph but who actually travel at those speeds no one, so those test ae useless

  • No.

There is a difference betwen the speed of traveling and the effektive speed of collision. In most cases the driver brakes down but it's not enough space to make a full stop.

The stress for the car is lower if you hit an other car instead of hitting a block wich is not able to move.

ANCAP an EuroNACP are very hard tests - only 5% of crashes in reality are harder than these test scenarios.

  • True that. I collided into the side of another car that pulled out on me in my mum's 1998 Camry at about 45kph and all it did was rip the bumper off its mounting, smash one headlight and ruin a quarter panel. The quarter panel and headlight was replaced, the bumper resprayed and refitted and bob's your uncle. The hood was unaffected. It felt like it just bounced softly into the other car because of the very effective crumble zones. That was 8 years ago and we still have the car today.

  • No, rennfrikadelle.

ANCAP, EuroNCAP And IIHS tests (This is an IIHS test not EuroNCAP) are more severe because they conduct 40% offset crashes which forces all of the energy on a small portion of the car's structure, which, contrary to what you've said is designed to replicate a 40% overlap driver's side-to-driver's side crash between cars of a similar size and weight.BTW, don't make up statistics-easily more crashes are more severe than this.

  • waste of a beatiful car...but at least we know its safe

  • the side airbag is to position the head for the front airbag

  • its real safety car

  • this is all great, but later when you fix the car you have to pay 3000 euro for each airbag, and there are 10 of them. I'v had BMW, I know.

  • Is your life not worth more than 3000 euro?

  • it like 10k euros to be more precise. One's life is worth as much one can afford, unfortunatelly.

  • That's what insurance is for.

  • why did side airbags open ?

  • to protect your head from banging i to the b-pillar

  • That might be a bad idea. Probably the head will not touch the B-pillar anyway. See Mercedes E-Class ncap test for example. An exploding side airbag might create head damages itself. Side head damage is much more dangerous than a frontal damage, because blood vessels between brain hemispheres can be ruptured by the lateral shock, and the person might die days later.

Even with airbags, lateral car crashes are the most dangerous.

  • Good Information Thanks ~

  • what speed when it crash?
