The man that was banging on the door saved their lives. If he didn't come through those doors, they would have no clue that the tornado was coming. If you saw the destruction of the gas station they were at, the place they were was leveled. The front exploded right when the tornado hit.

The lady saying "Where is it at?" The other woman saying, "Can we go in the cooler?" and the little boy crying, "Oh my God! Oh my God!" were all turning points on the tornado's approach. But the lady that wins the day is the one who calls on "Jesus, Jesus!" and "Heavenly Father!" that saved the day. Awesome, awesome!!! That is exactly what I would be doing if a tornado came crashing on my house. Whether I make or not. That is how I want to go, invoking the name of Jesus.

I was in a tornado 7 years ago so I know what these poor people went through. The sounds of the children really got to me. I hope there were no fatalities in this group. The young men directing the group, trying to keep people calm, showed such bravery. I'm curous, though. Was the second "blast" a second tornado? If so, it lasted a longer time than usual. It's unbelievable that anyone survived in that store. The aftermath video was awesome! Thanks to the videographer for this video.

Did you not have time to seek shelter other than a glass-fronted gas station?

Do people think this is adequate shelter from any tornado?

I don't mean to be insensitive, but having lived through an F4 (old rating), we quickly learned to avoid unstable structures and GLASS.

Please remember this people - it can save your life.

@HARDBAL They did the right thing by surviving. The many people that died, probably did what you suggested. You dont whip out a map and look for suitable shelter with an f5 bearing down on you. Instinct and people pulling together kept everyone alive. If I learned anything, it is to hunker down against a much larger wall that, when toppled, will protect. Your advise is strange.

This was worse than a scary movie and my heart dropped when I watched and listened to this. All of you were incredible! Especially the young men that were keeping everyone calm and protecting them and saying "I love you, I love everyone!" and the person who recorded this and the person praying....all of you are real HEROES and my prayers and thoughts are with you and may God replenish "many times" what you lost...it's nice to know there are still such good people in the world...God Bless!!!!

Very intense and chilling video. I live in Imperial, MO so this could have been us. We had an intense storm on Monday, throwing debris and construction equipment across HWY 270 & HWY 40. Wind was hitting our truck and trailer so hard, it felt like it was going to overturn at any moment....

Death toll in Joplin is up to 118 people, making it the deadliest in U.S. history. Best of luck to the survivors, and our hearts go out to those lost.

That even terrorized my dog. He was laying at my feet, but as soon as the noise of the twister & screams started, he jumped up and ran and hid in the bathroom. It must have hit them head-on. When that guy was saying, "we're good." @ 3:05 -- they were in the eye of it.
