This is great! I get to watch Shinya for a whole song ^^~ I love him so much. Does anyone know which dvd this is on? I want to buy it so badly and watch it in high quality~
He really doesn't, but I honestly think he is one of the best drummers out there. If not the best the the most creative, because if you noticed while he drums, he is also grooving in his seat XD
In my opinion he's one of the best drummers playing in a succesfull band. Sure, there are these uber-pros playing solos all the time, but you can't compare that to someone playing in a "normal" band. And from these drummers playing in a "normal" band Shinya really is one of the best!! Sometimes I don't even think he plays the same rythm for 2 bars (?).
Out of all of Shinya's drum sets I liked this one the most. It's pretty simple without all the bars holding the cymbals and what not. And at the same time he's using rototoms which is pretty unique considering the rest of his drum set is huge.

I as a drummer can play things that many so called "greatest drummers of today" can play... But when i try to play shinya's drum parts, although i will play the basic beat correctly and stay in time and all that jazz, there will still ALWAYS be some beat or fill that I just can't figure out, simply because it is that unique, unlike many musicians today. And THAT is why he is amazing.
He is amazing because of the creativity, and despite the fact that dir en grey is a band with a very different, versatile and unique sound, he is still able to follow it perfectly, and not simply follow it but create such unique and unimaginable sounds.
Its funny to see this "musicians" saying that shinya cant play, they cant see a true artist when they see it. yeah, im talking to you, the guy that remove his jessica alba poster to put a portnoy one.
looking. he looks like a girl, and hell he even said once he sees himself as a girl. but when he gets behind his drum set, its a whole different story! he plays the fucking hell out of those drums and does a damn good job at it! that is whats so amazing is that this little girly man can produce a fucking KICK ASS sound!

You know, I used to have the "I could care less" sort of feeling for drummers, but Shinya totally changed that for me. When I think about it, I don't know why I felt that way in the first place because I've always liked rhythm...-shrug-

Look at his snare head. It's and Emperor X made by Remo. It's got 20 mil mylar and holds a record. It's the thickest drumhead ever produced. Proof that he hits hard.
I know that. It's called the Moeller technique. (said like "moe-ler") In marching percussion, you use a lot of wrist and fingers and you only use forearm for fotre, fortissimo (ff), and fff. And in the marching world, your hands will only hurt if you play stiffly. Shots are only good for effects, really. Another thing I don't understand is why Shinya has the hihats really far left. It's not really necessary.
its for comfort and how he plays. hes supposed to adjust his drumset so its most comfortable. seeing how shinya plays, he needs some distance between his hi-hats and snare
man... this is what i call style! Just for curiosity.. his gloves, he uses them cause drumming like that hurts (and i mean a LOT) his hands (believe it.. i'm a drummer 2 and i know the pain XDD), and he have technique and power... he rocks!
mmhmm for live shows, since i dont have gloves, i put band-aids at the end of both index fingers and thumbs :] also adds grip which helps the embarrassment of dropping my sticks :]
but yea, during practice once, because i play with only wrist and fingers, i had a huge blister on my index finger between the knuckle and joint n the skin was almost peeling off :[ not good so hence the gloves for shinya :3

He also hits EXTREMELY hard. Way more than what you need to project to the audience. However he may have mastered the technique of making it look big, but it's not that loud. Otherwise his hands would be destroyed (tired and hurting) but the end of 3 songs.

It's called "technique" XD (just pay close attention to his elbow and hand... u can see that they're parallels, giving the motion more "powerful" and his body are moving opposite to the rhythm.. (think when u walk..) *sry about the english XD*

Well... I think Shinya is REALLY good. Well, no compare to YOSHIKI of X Japan, cause he's the best drummer I've ever seen, but I like him and his way of playing the drumms.
Shinya is one of the more amazing drummers I have seen. It's almost as if he makes these inhuman movements in order to hit all the drums in such a short amount of time.
He surpasses Yoshiki in my opinion.
