  • Where did you get to fight this boss? My playthrough was AGES ago, can't possibly remember.

  • @Crimsomnia After you go through Nibleheim and go into the mountains. This boss guards the exit and when you beat it, he drops the Counter Attack materia.

  • good =D

Watch my video with the materia keeper battle =p

  • weird. when i tried it i recieved 7777 damage before materia keeper. it was the attack he does at 0:26 in this video that did that damage, then he died right after

  • heh, didn't read the description. whoops

  • LOLOLOLOL

  • lol I'm up to this point :P my first ever speed run and this is the first part I'm having trouble on so far.

only have 4:15 playtime so i think it's good for my first speed run =]

  • I'm curious, how does shortening names to one letter save time?

  • It sometimes saves one/a couple of frames when you are skipping away the dialogue boxes. Obviously the shorter the starting name, the less time is saved. Renaming Cid for instance saves like 2-3 sec overall, assuming you don't lose time renaming him....I'm not the one who did this research, but there's no reason to doubt it (it was analysed in great details by BrutalAl, who has done a lot for the ffvii speedrun), it does save a little time, and every second counts in a speedrun ^^

  • beto a saver q iso

  • I just started my first speed run and i ran in to trouble... I can't do 99 damage with Bio!!!!!!! Do you by chance know what cloud's magic stats are in the movie? I can only get him up to 41 and thats enough to do only about 92 :( (Cait Sith is even WORSE)

  • Sorry, but I don't remember. You could be a level lower too (unless you are following Garlands speedrun faq on GF, but then I doubt you would be asking me that question ^^).

What I did to boost the damage was to equip the Force Stealer (+7 to Magic, Buster Sword only gives +2) and pack Cloud with green/red materias to further increase the Mag stat; however, it might still not be enough (I had to replay the area before to get a better Mag stat increase at level up...).

  • The other idea is to deal 99 damage with Bio+regular physical attack from Tifa. With her starting weapon she should deal pathetic damage.

There's a vid of that battle too, just search for "Farringa ffvii speedrun" and you'll find it.

If you have any further questions just PM me, the number of characters I can type here is just way too restricted ~.~

  • That's awesome; even the game's hardest boss (in my opinion) has an easily exploitable weakness (assuming you stay at low levels). If only I had known this when I was 9 and had little patience with dying.

  • In a speedrun it's obviously nice to be able to exploit it. However it took me like 200 attempts to get it right, and that's leaving out the time it took to get the right stats....

So yeah, in a regular playthrough I don't think it's an option. Even at very low levels he still is easy with poison/defend/heal...if you just poison him and never attack again, he will never use the Cure2/Trine combo :)

  • @lolo262626 Can you tell me how you beat this guy? I have a level 21 Cloud, 21 Yuffie, 18 Cait sith and level 18 Tifa.I have all of the spells you used and my "All" materia is level two... any advice?

  • @Kongregater3

    - Everyone in back row. Sadness.

    - Elemental=Lightning in Armor or/and Bolt Ring to reduce the damage from Trine.

I'm guessing you're having trouble with his Trine/Cure2 combo, but there is a very easy way around that:

Poison him at the start and then Defend/Heal the rest of the battle and don't attack him again (you can damage him a bit right at the start). That way he will never use Trine/Cure2 (usually used if his HP drop below a value, but poison damage doesn't trigger it).

  • @lolo262626 Got it, thanks, but a few questions for you

    1) How do you get sadness

    2) Use Vincent or Yuffie?

    3) I dont have cure two OR trine and I lost my enemy skill materia

  • @Kongregater3

    1) By using an Item called "Tranquilizer". Some enemies can also inflict the status. But don't worry, at those levels you don't really need Sadness (it reduces the damage by ~30% but your limit bar fills a lot slower).

    2) If you don't have at least Vincent's second limit dont use him since his first limit will heal MK. Yuffie should do fine.

    3) You misunderstood; MK is the one that uses Trine/Cure2 and using Poison+not attacking makes it possible to avoid that.

  • @lolo262626 Funny you should say this right AFTER I beat MK :P I got to go on a date with Aeris though.

  • That was amazing.

  • genius

  • well done with this battle!!! i didnt know that the enemy did the 7777 thing but this must have taken years to acheive to get the right damage totals i think its a bit far fetched for most people to accomplish.

  • More like a night of constant retries.
