  • I am so lucky to have learned this dance from my teachers. They are the best and I love all the people at my dance school who make the Wake so fun!

  • So, this is awesome, I want to be there or in irish pub and dance like this!

  • for all those who think this would be fun...it is...you get a big group of fellow dancers in a celeidgh it is the some of the BEST times ive had

    sincerely,

    a former irish step dancer

  • I wish Denmark also just had a tradition like this! (-So much life, so much PARTY and sooo much FUN!) XO

  • Was multitasking listening to this and looked up at the muted TV and saw the band ACDC rockin out with this music playing and spit Reese's peanut butter cups and milk all over my laptop :P

  • Lolll, one of the automatic transcripts is “I’m not sure”

  • I´m not irish....but maybe in my past life i was.... i love Ireland......Limerick......

  • i love doing this dance with my friends and our girlfriends :D

  • I love this because it shows where my culture came from. The Irish brought the American South their dance and music that survives today as Clogging, Flatfooting, and country folk music.

  • I felt out of breath from excitement just watching! I wish I could dance like that. 12.5% Irish and proud of every little bit ;-)

  • i want to do this so bad i want aome one to teach me this

  • awesome

  • It makes me feel so happy ... those are expressing so much joy and fun at dancing this Irish dance! :D

  • FAVORITE dance in the show :D

  • how are they all in sync?!?!?!? I mean, they have perfect off beats with the music!!!!

  • @meyer537 lots and lots and lots of practice

  • Many people if you ask them what´s party music, probably say lady gaga....but THAT´S THE REAL PARTY AND FUNNIEST MUSIC EVER

  • I know that they reverted back to the long dresses as that's what it was originally danced in, but personally i think that the shorter dresses were way better.

  • watch*

  • I love this dance/song. It's so happy, whats this when you're down and you will cheer up at the very 1st second lol :)

  • i looove this concept of riverdance to be quite honest.

  • This is the part I am looking forward to seeing the most when they come here!

  • Aww im jealous! Would love to learn irish dancing!

  • This is one of my favourites! :)

  • Oh, to be young again!!!

  • @BenMurrie

    ???

  • What dance comes after the American Wake?

  • happiest musical evar!!! thumbs up if you agree

  • Damn... wish i could do that. WOAH.

  • i love this dance so much!!!! it's my absolute favorite dance to perform, and everyone smiles the whole way through :)

  • This number establishes visually the connection between Irish traditional song and dance, and American blue grass music and square dance.

  • Was that Susan Ginety at the start :)?

  • So cool ! Yeah ;)

  • I like this dance because there isn't a central figure. It's just a group of incredibly talented dancers. Plus, I know much more work goes into ensemble dancing than solo.

  • I think this dance represents the joy Irish immigrants found in dancing even though their lives in America were hard.

  • wuld make you want to dance.!.

  • Just great!

  • WOW!!

  • Seen it live. WOW!!

  • my dance school is preforming this for st patricks day!!! soooooooooooo excited

  • @crazy4mycoco AWE best of luck to you on that one... that also happens to be my birthday.

  • Pretty concise, descriptive number: this music came here from Ireland, to Appalachia and points west, and evolved into American bluegrass.

  • i seriously hate the narration. the original riverdance with jean butler and michael flately will always be the best.

  • i loves the beat that they make. (:

  • That looks like SO MUCH FUN. =D

  • @EmilySmoot it is i do it all the time

  • The big group dances like these called khelis' are fun

  • @MadameSecretary918

It sounds like kay-lee but is actually spelled ceili dance

  • @EmilySmoot Polkas are always fun! :)

  • @EmilySmoot omg it is i mean im not anything like this but we've done this stuff its so much fun!

  • do all irish chics wear long dresses when they dance? seems like it would get in the way.

  • no. it's just this dance. but they're so good, it doesn't get in their way. i wear them all the time. they don't get in my way!

  • They used to. Now they wear knee length dresses for competitions and shows.

  • I Irish Dance and I think that wearing something like the guys did in this dance wouldn't be bad at all, it looks way more traditional.

I think the girls would look better with their real hair exposed instead of a wig anyway

  • @Amtrak1194 wait, they were wearing wigs??? Huh, I never knew that!

  • No: at this point in the dance story, they are Irish American chicks, settling the American frontier.

  • @Mrmoosilini for real Irish Dancers they don't they wear short dresses

  • if you double click my user name you can go to my thing and watch my irish dance video, you should like it:)

  • Lovly

  • this gives me even more incentive to practice-but i'm already sweaty enough as it is, and it's late-damn.

  • Love this! It looks so fun! :D

  • music is truly a beautiful thing..

  • love love love

  • It's been so long since I did this kind of thing...I miss it.

  • luv this. I really want to be in Riverdance

  • god.... how many times did they barf spinning and spinning????

  • I love this dance. I just learned it!

  • love the costumes it's like they're in the 1900's

  • It seems like it would be kinda hard to dance in those long skirts.

  • do Irish women naturally have Tight Curly locks or do they do this just for the show... Kuz its totally Cutes!!!

  • Some are natural, and some are either hair pieces or curled ^-^

  • If I'm not mistaken, I believe that John Kavanagh is the narrator for this production, not Liam Neeson.

  • I really want to try this some day!

    It seem to be fun!

  • This performance is pure happiness. Riverdance is the dance of all dances!

  • So funny!!!!!!!

  • the*

  • or you sure!!!??? he doesn't sound AT ALL like Liam neeson, Nesson has a very distinct way of prenunctiation and this guy doesn't have that.

  • Whos the narrator?

  • i love the costuming and the dance and the music. it feels more authentic.

  • this dance is the most fun dance you do in riverdance/irish dancing if you live in britian you can see it everywher

  • i love their irish music. it makes me wanna lie down and DREAM!

  • wow, how can the dance with these long skirts??! I would be afraid of gettin tangled up.

  • They are supposed to be the Irish who settled in America; specifically, Applachia and points west. Notice how this music becomes

    bluegrass folk music.

  • @bookkeeper57

My grandma says she can remeber when she was 7 her grandmother's friend was irish and she seen this scene before! in 1919!

  • not really if you think about it women used to wear those sort of dresses all the time back then as you can see they're also loose

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeeheeheeee how fun!!! :D

  • I LOVE THIS. I really want to be in Riverdance

  • I want to see the rest of it!

  • this dance group, with the principal dancers and the musicians was absolutely the best, coz everyone just looks like they are having a fab time and enjoying themselves!

unlike michael flatley who was too full of himself ¬_¬

  • i know, i agree with you. this is kind of cool

  • While I agree that the majority of the troupe looks like they're having even more fun than the Radio City Hall recording, I think Colin Dunne and Jean Butler pulled off the happy-couple lead bits a little better. :) But, to each their own!

  • agreed...but I liked the old costumes more...it was more impressive when you could see their leg movement more....it flowed more. dunno. still looks like fun doesn't it?

  • Without Michael there would be no Riverdance. He started it. I agree Michael does seem a bit full of himself when he dances but he has a huge record--it was something like, 100 taps per second or 50 taps per second, I forgot which one it was.

  • When I was in Ireland the Irish weren´t very fond of him. LOL. I found it funny cause the world thinks of Ireland, by M. Flatley and his own country seems to be the only not-fan!

Well I´m not irish and although he looks arogant I like what he does.

    (sorry for bad english)

  • M. Flatley is american he is not irish and neither was jean butler

  • I believe it's 35 taps per second :-D

  • The current record holder is Michael Donnellan, at 40 taps per second

  • Michael Flatley holds the record for most taps at 35 per second! =D

  • actually its 38

  • According to wikipedia, the record is currently 40 taps per second. But I forgot who actually holds that record:)

  • Michael Flatley.

  • The current record holder is (I believe) James Devine, an Irish dancer. :)

  • This is AMAZING!!!!

my god i actually love riverdance.

  • looks like a low recorder

  • you see the guy at the start of this video....does anyone know what the name of the instrument he's playing is called???

  • Flute ???!!!

  • Fiddle...

  • No I think he meant the guy in blue shirt at around 0:20, that ain't fiddle.

  • yeah... sorry bout that :)

  • Quite all right !!! :-D

  • This has me cracking up... when I saw Riverdance in Des Moines last year, there was an older couple behind me that couldn't for the life of them figure out what the Irish pipes were on 'Lament'. The wife asked, and the husband whispered 'I think it's some sort of fiddle. They kept talking about it, and finally my friend turned around and told them what instrument it was so they'd be quiet. It was quite hilarious.

  • it's a low whistle

  • It's called a Low Whistle...

  • what ever it is i like the tune

  • I think it is a flute

  • clarinet?

  • its an irish pan flute

  • Er...actually, it isn't. It's a pennywhistle, but an octave lower -- hence, a "low whistle" like someone said before.

  • Awsome!!!

  • i cant get enough of this; i know the first reel (the second section) on violin, but i cant begin to compare to this...

  • This dance looks so fun! The music makes you wanna dance along.

  • @Djabenusiri

    I agree!

  • do you have the New York Radio City version?

  • I love that they're having so much fun on stage =)

If I'm not wrong, the fiddler once broke her strings playing this... I don't remember which performance it was from, though. A couple of years back.

  • I love this so so much!!

  • This is like my FAVORITE riverdance dance!!!! I love the combo of group and solo dancing. The music is AWESOME!! I can't stop moving!

  • One of my favourite dances <3 The costumes are amazing, though really i'm too busy looking at their legs to notice! I hope one day I too will be this good, ERIN GO BRAGH!

  • Finally I found it!!! I've been scouring youtube for a while for it!!! XD

  • that show is on my list of things to see

  • I love this song. I wish i could find "The Heart's Cry". That too is an awesome song!!

  • they shuda dun a set dance like the cavan reel/cashel set r sumtin bt its still realy gud!!=]

  • I use this song for my gymnastic floor routine :D:D I love this song and riverdance can't wait till december 20th to go see riverdance in Amsterdam (holland) :D:D::D:D:D

  • is this a new dvd? how is each dvd, in terms of the show's content differ?

  • the difference between the riverdance of NYcity and the live from geneva is a lot the costums are more colorful and nice and that stuff ant coreography is new in some songs, they take away a song called oscail an doras, and replaced it with one called ri ra, but they danced oscail and doras here in mexico

  • zomg! ;) This is only dance from the 2001 version that I like better than the 1998 version. The costumes are great, and the longer skirts look wonderful and change the whole atmosphere. It reminds me of the country dances my church hosts... except we don't have lovely in-time taps. :-D And having the musicians on stage like that is great!

  • Can you please post Oscail An Doras?

  • I love watching this type of dance, ha try finding lessons in rural Michigan

  • I would love to learn how to dance like this... Except theres nowhere where i live that teach this

  • Thanks for posting this one, best version of it I have seen!

  • thanks for posting a longer version of this. but do you have shivna?
