My westy is 15 years old and the vet thinks he might have this. He sorta squeaks when he pants and he's so weak all the time. He has a heart murmur and had water in his lungs on top of that too, we thought it was just water but we thinks its this now as his lungs look swollen a bit. Do you have any advice on how to make them feel comfortable at all times?
My 11 1/2 yr old westie was diagnosed with the same thing 7 wks ago, he has an inhaler, but he is gradually getting worse, he's my little fur baby, I've put a video of him on utube using his inhaler and there is also one of him talking, don't know how i will cope when his time comes. His name is jack and he is very special to me. I'm so sorry for your loss, I can see that he was very special to you.
My heart goes out to you- my family had to put our 13 year old Westie, Woody, to sleep the day after Easter because of the rapid progression of this disease. His lung actually collapsed. It was the most heart-breaking, painful thing to witness. Our previous Westie also had this disease. Thank you for the links. And although we still hurt and will hurt for a very long time, it has not turned us off from the breed. We were truly blessed to share our lives with him.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this video, and even more so, the link to your site. We have a five year old Westie, and she IS the light in our life. I read some of the articles in the forum on your site, but it saddened me so much I had to stop reading. Thank you so much for taking the effort in such a painful situation. My heart goes out to you and all those who have lost such a friend to this disease.
Mmy westie also has skin problems, mainly in his ears and his skin on his underside is quite dark. We took him to the Vet and he gave us a special shampoo we use and it seems to be working :)
Oh my, this just broke me to hear your Scamps breathing. We lost our Westie, Mattie on Valentines Day 2008. She suffered with Westie Lung Disease too. I am sure Scamps faught just as hard as my Mattie against it. I will miss my girl all my life. I hate this disease!
Very sorry to hear of your loss. My partner and I have just adopted a Westy, and will keep an eye out for the symptoms. Our hearts go out to you. May Scamps rest in peace with all his litle doggy friends!!!
