The number of real rock bands still in their early daze seem to be drying up. Hip-Hop and gangbangers do not produce music: they do their thing because they want to tell a story but have no ability to string together complete sentences and spell. Maybe rock has to go into a long dry spell before it can come back. The classic bands do not have much time left to tour and create music.

Pretty good song and band. It is hard to get past their image though. When you voluntarily release videos(on MTV) of you standing in the rain with no shirt on, rubbing your body in slow motion, it puts a thought in my head that this band is...FUCKING GAY. Their character might not be what I would like it to be but, their music is worth listening to...

Everyone just face it, they are never going to be like their original album. They are a band, and like every single band they change their music throughout their careers, thats what makes them so good. They have the skill to evolve their sound and make their parts sound a lot better than before, just because they don't sound the same as when they started doesn't take away their skill as musicians, they're still the best band out there today and the only ones to really have a rock feel to them.
Back in the day someone would ask who my favorite band was. "Kings of Leon," I'd say. When they said they hadn't heard of them, I'd eagerly describe the music and its Southern vibe. Nowadays, when I answer the same question the same way, I'm often met with negative responses... occasionally even insults. "Dude, that band is so gay!" is a common one. It's a lot tougher to change someone's opinion, even one based on only 2 songs, than it is to give someone the chance to form their own opinion.

this song sucks, the video is corny, the guitar parts at the start sound like theyre trying 2 hard with the u2/coldplay formula. People who say sex on fire isnt a great song are just being pretentious, they hit the nail on the head with that song. Only by the night had some good moments, but wasnt a great album, very mediocre, aha shake is definitely their pinnacle, they had the look, attitude, swag, and the songs. BUT, this song is actually from when they completed Aha Shake Heartbreak, they just never got it the way they liked it. Even Humbug, which I hated at first and still do hate some of the songs, is a decent album.

If they only made music like Y&YM they would get bored themselves and their fans would get bored of them as well.

this sounds like a mix between their 2 recent albums.. production on 'because of the times' and the vocals on 'only by the night'.. i'm wonderin if the whole album will be like this. i wish they'd do a lil more of their older style

Everyone just face it, they are never going to be like their original album. They are a band, and like every single band they change their music throughout their careers, thats what makes them so good. They have the skill to evolve their sound and make their parts sound a lot better than before, just because they don't sound the same as when they started doesn't take away their skill as musicians, they're still the best band out there today and the only ones to really have a rock feel to them.

Back in the day someone would ask who my favorite band was. "Kings of Leon," I'd say. When they said they hadn't heard of them, I'd eagerly describe the music and its Southern vibe. Nowadays, when I answer the same question the same way, I'm often met with negative responses... occasionally even insults. "Dude, that band is so gay!" is a common one. It's a lot tougher to change someone's opinion, even one based on only 2 songs, than it is to give someone the chance to form their own opinion.

this song sucks, the video is corny, the guitar parts at the start sound like theyre trying 2 hard with the u2/coldplay formula. People who say sex on fire isnt a great song are just being pretentious, they hit the nail on the head with that song. Only by the night had some good moments, but wasnt a great album, very mediocre, aha shake is definitely their pinnacle, they had the look, attitude, swag, and the songs. Now they sound right up there with, coldplay, u2, lifehouse, and daughtry...bleah

BUT, this song is actually from when they completed Aha Shake Heartbreak, they just never got it the way they liked it. So if you actually think ASH was their best album, then you're contradicting yourself since this song is almost from that album.

@Beetlebum1992 AND If you actually listen to their old albums OR play a real guitar, you can easily see that they (YAYM and ASH) are the way they are partly becuase they were barely starting to play their instruments. They played pretty simple chords and stuff every song, besides Matt's solos which are badass. I LOVE all their albums, I am a true fan.

@Beetlebum1992 oh and btw, All off my favorite bands (Arctic Monkeys, KoL, Strokes) started off with simple tunes that were amazing, that's why I liked them in the first place. Now if you listen to any of those three, their albums are so different than when they first started out becuase the are getting smarter with their music and instruments (OBTN, Humbug, First Impressions) and they still sound good. Even Humbug, which I hated at first and still do hate some of the songs, is a decent album.

I have loved KoL for years, seen them live, have part of my life defined by their tunes and I love all of their albums.
I do however detest and refuse to mention Only By The Night within that classification.
This sounds as if they're returning a bit to previous form...in a way.
I don't LOVE it, but I definitely don't hate it.

@fish5141 I completly agree with you man, I became a fan when aha shake came out, then I listened to Youth and Youngman Hood and then the next two and I swear I loved every album they have made so far. Yes even Only By The Night, because all those songs on that album were good maybe except for 'Notion' but besides that a good album I just got pissed because they got more big and they werent my band no more. Not that I dont still love there music im just mad that people that like one song arefans

@fish5141 Oh yeah Cold Desert is one of their best songs recorded, he was auctually really wasted when he sang that song. But yeah I still hate Notion and I miss their stuff from their first three albums especially though they do have alot of good songs on the 4th I just miss the sounds they started with, but thats what makes them good. They're always changing.

its just that, bands evolve, change their style and get better at their instruments.
KoL when they 1st started were not that great at their instruments. Their stuff back then sounded more raw and more garage band like. Now that they have gotten better they are making more complex music. They will never be the same as before. If they only made music like Y&YM they would get bored themselves and their fans would get bored of them as well.

@sdor13 I was a long time KOL fan and saw them all over the county. I met a lot of fans along the way, I even met a couple of the band members. Everyone I know has moved on after their last album. They have picked up new fans, the pop rock crowd. But all of the people I know who listen to indie rock think they suck now.
