  • The Brits and the Americans have various differences, but our mutual fascination with steam does not seem to be one of them. We have a handful of active steam engines here in the states, but it would be interesting to see the Americans undertake the construction of an entirely new one from the rails up.

  • the station lines a bit to close..

here in Australia there at least a meter away :D

  • wonderful footage

  • I think the best thing that could happen if that they could restore the mallard so it can be in steam and could do things like this. Im shure they can since they have enough money and if they can build an entire A1 class from sctrach then i think they could restore an engine that already exsists. Great video by the way!!!! :)

  • i think one day they should organise a day on the east coast were all passenger trains are steam hauled, now that would be a day to reme, ber

  • Makes u think doesn't it, y don't they restore more steam loco's? Everyone loves them Everytime people here about one due to come into their local station it is packed with people with cameras. I've recently seen a BR 7 No.70013 Oliver Cromwell' & 34067 Tangmere come through Plymouth doing the Royal Duchey. Tornado is due to come down 11th July 2009, cant wait to see it !!

  • Yes. We were on The Royal Duchy, pity about Nunney. Our Video for 70013 +34067 already on Youtube. Also booked for 11th July, very much looking forward to that!

  • this may sound horrible but i was glad nunney broke down at Newton Abbott, because last time Tagmere came down i missed it, and i've seen nunney castle a few times before. Bit annoyed they have cancelled the King class that was supposed to be coming down 2nd may King Edward 1

  • I heard it's "apple green".

  • @DanielVolker in that video it's already apple green until they decide to do another paint job

  • Sorry In the U.S we call them cars a lot

  • :-)

  • Are British Passenger cars light or is the Tornado just a fast and powerful engine

  • If by 'cars' you mean what we call coaches(!), then the train was mainly BR Mk1 coaches which weight in at 37 tons. Total train weight was 461 tons tare, 500 tons gross (13 Coaches).

  • That is one high pitched whistle! Guess I'm not used to British whistles as I am to the ones here in the US.

  • 60163 has two whistle fitted a 'Chime' which the LNER used first on the A4 class and was also used by BR and the LNER standard 'Bell' whistle which is the 'high pitch' one you mention. This was LNER standard with the exception of the A4 class.

  • BR Apple Green (an experimental livery used by BR in the late 1940s, very early 1950s)

  • @gantondale The LNER used apple green as one of there main line express liveries for a very long time it might have been in use before the grouping

  • Excellent movie. I was on the train too. What a day!! Terrific!! Thanks for sharing your movie.

  • beautiful camera work you should be proud

  • brilliant! how many modern trains do you see with 13 carriges? none but then theres no romance to pull the passenger no.s! Lets go back to steam! plenty of coal in Britain and greener than modern.

  • Great video. Just saw the loco on the tele but this video shows a lot more than the BBC did. Well done.

  • Thanks, you will have seen Michael who took some of this then! (11 year old with a stop watch who talks about being a couple of minutes late from York etc.)
