At my most manicy state...I played guitar, and drums and recorded a 20 minute drum solo then added effects, when I got finished it was six hours later and I was tired and then I went into depression so bad that I wanted to just die. Bipolar CAN look like this, but this would be just the first stage of an episode, if she is really bipolar at the end of the day she might need some real help! she wouldn't even be able to handle herself. I have BD, and I've had some terrible times, I mean, people without this disease couldn't imagine that kind of terrible, but I think that once you are ok and back on your feet, it's ok to make fun of yourself and try not to take the illness too seriously. I think bipolar itself has it, for example I think my bipolar it's not as strong or serious as other people's (I don't really know how to put it) who even have to be in mental hospitals. But in this video she is acting really hyper and in most cases if you are bipolar and don't get to control yourself or recognize your symptoms you might have a melt down in little time.

See my post below for further explanation but just because the length of the cycle is shorter (only 30mins even) doesn't make it less intense, or less crippling. If you're cycling on a 30min to 1hour basis it's basically near to impossible to live your life. When you're depressed, you're physically incapacitated and unable to think. When you're hypomanic (or manic if you're bp1) you're hyped up, but unfocussed, impulsive, and reckless.
how inaccurate can you be. rapid cycling bipolar does not cycle that quickly. maybe 3 or 4 hypomanic/manic episodes a year. did you do any research? your friend is attention seeking, grossly immature, has adhd or even borderline. who needs shrinks when we've got you.
Plus I do not think this video making fun of bipolar - I think it's an accurate depiction of what ultradian bipolar is really like. Karli in this video could be my twin. I have been diagnosed with this condition by a professional - a psychiatrist who is also a bipolar specialist. My only correction is that this is NOT rapid cycling bipolar - rapid cycling is only about 4 episodes a year I think. This is ultra ultra rapid cycling, which is WAY faster.

I have been diagnosed by 3 different psychiatrists with bipolar 2, the 3rd being the leading bipolar specialist in my capital city who specified ultradian. It's a very rare form of bipolar and presents completely differently to standard or even rapid cycling bipolar,
so people with those who say it's nothing like bipolar are wrong. The fact is each episode can be as fast as a single hour, or even 30 minutes. The way Karli is behaving? That is me, and there is no doubt as to my diagnosis. If anyone wants to discuss my diagnosis and the numerous reasons why it is correct (beyond being verified by 3 separate psychiatrists) feel free to inbox me.
Ironically enough, especially after reading some of the comments about this not being an accurate depiction of bipolar, I found this to be the best depiction of my own presentation I have seen. I have been diagnosed with ultradian (ultra ultra rapid cycling) bipolar, and I have been behaving EXACTLY as Karli does. As someone who is going into their first job as a therapist into an acute mental health setting this has helped me a lot in trying to help people suffering from various mental health issues get back on their feet. It's very hard to live with bipolar whether you have it or are living with someone who has it. Only if I can have a switch where I can switch my own emotions to match that of a "rapid cycler" then it wouldn't be so bad. It's difficult when you are having fun quality time with a rapid cycler and all of a sudden she is either sad or yelling in your face for no apparent reasons. Media and Hollywood films portray people with mental illness as "crazy". We are not all crazy people..just some are.
None of what she acted like looked bipolar at all. Sleepy state in a chair at the store. That is something else entirely going on there. My diagnosis Bipolar NOS. I do not act like that in a store. If anything I don't want to go to the damn store and I'd rather be at home or doing something else. So, nice try at depicting rapid cycle but it falls slightly short of reality.

@123perrin I agree with you. I don't think this video was made with the intention of making fun of her, since her name is listed as an editor in the credits. I am not a doctor, nor have I studied psychiatry but from what I know of bipolar, and perhaps what I see here, is a good example of the different poles between depression and hypomania. Even if she may be playing up for the camera, it is still a better example of bipolar than some of the dry medical videos.

See my post below for further explanation but just because the length of the cycle is shorter (only 30mins even) doesn't make it less intense, or less crippling. If you're cycling on a 30min to 1hour basis it's basically near to impossible to live your life. When you're depressed, you're physically incapacitated and unable to think. When you're hypomanic (or manic if you're bp1) you're hyped up, but unfocussed, impulsive, and reckless.

Plus I do not think this video making fun of bipolar - I think it's an accurate depiction of what ultradian bipolar is really like. Karli in this video could be my twin. I have been diagnosed with this condition by a professional - a psychiatrist who is also a bipolar specialist. My only correction is that this is NOT rapid cycling bipolar - rapid cycling is only about 4 episodes a year I think. This is ultra ultra rapid cycling, which is WAY faster.

@raleighman3000 Obviously I don't know for sure if she is bipolar or not, all I know is that her behaviour is a fairly accurate representation of ULTRADIAN (ultra ultra rapid cycling) bipolar 2, which is what I have. I have been diagnosed by 3 different psychiatrists with bipolar 2, the 3rd being the leading bipolar specialist in my capital city who specified ultradian. It's a very rare form of bipolar and presents completely differently to standard or even rapid cycling bipolar,

Ironically enough, especially after reading some of the comments about this not being an accurate depiction of bipolar, I found this to be the best depiction of my own presentation I have seen. I have been diagnosed with ultradian (ultra ultra rapid cycling) bipolar, and I have been behaving EXACTLY as Karli does. I think they have done a great job capturing what it is like to have a friend who suffers from the disorder. And educates people about what it is like to observe episodes of mania and depression.. As someone who is going into their first job as a therapist into an acute mental health setting this has helped me a lot in trying to help people suffering from various mental health issues get back on their feet. So thanks for posting it!

It's very hard to live with bipolar whether you have it or are living with someone who has it. Only if I can have a switch where I can switch my own emotions to match that of a "rapid cycler" then it wouldn't be so bad. It's difficult when you are having fun quality time with a rapid cycler and all of a sudden she is either sad or yelling in your face for no apparent reasons. Media and Hollywood films portray people with mental illness as "crazy". We are not all crazy people..just some are.

firstly, look at who edited this vid. so i dont think karli wasnt aware of these guys putting it on the net. karli's cycling (from what we see here) seems to be fairly harmless. and it looks like she has some good friends(which helps). during one of my depressed cycles, i tried to beat a guy to a pulp with a baseball bat, because he looked at one of my friends the wrong way then wrecked his car. so it can get a lot worse. anyhows, she looks like a pretty kool chick. cheers =)

I am not a doctor, nor have I studied psychiatry but from what I know of bipolar, and perhaps what I see here, is a good example of the different poles between depression and hypomania. Even if she may be playing up for the camera, it is still a better example of bipolar than some of the dry medical videos.
