I started reading the Little Prince because of this song. Just halfway through the book I was able to catch most of the references. That put a smile on my face.
Anything that is crushed, pure and fermented; anything made from an open fire of angst, sadness, bitterness and despair; anything made from fresh wounds, from real cuts and bruises, and peremptory ailments of heart and soul; anything rotten and decaying and honest; anything woven and sewn with tears and sweat and blood; any severed wood deformed and tempered by time, wind and ill-weather; any form or shape made from all of these is and must be immortal.
I love the Little Prince... I totally wrote a baobabs song without realizing one of my main influences already had one (I haven't heard much of her, but the stuff I hear always ends up making an impact). lol. But this is so lovely, I love her style.
I was the Aviator in a stage performance of LP, and it has since become my favorite story of all time. I must notify my cast of this song's existence!
The Little Prince is my mom's fave book, and I read it when I was in middle school-ish. So when my friend mentioned this song a few days ago, I was all "Wait, that wouldn't happen to be about The Little Prince, right?" =D
The first time i heard this song was in 6th grade... and the next day we started to read the little prince in class... i was like "this sounds really familiar...."
I read the book because of this song. A wonderful book, a wonderful song. There's something very sweet and innocent about both even though they deal with serious things. I like the old translation of the little prince better than the newer one.
I never realised until today that this song was about The Little Prince. I re-read it yesterday and then listened to this song again and I thought HOOOLD OOON. The first line especially 'You have tamed me, now you must take me'. Like the fox said, if you tame something it's your responsibility. If you take a single rose out of fifty thousand roses it becomes unique to you because it is your rose. Aaawwrr. Such a lovely story. And Regina is an amazing woman.
i am reading Le Petit Prince in french class and i love it ! i have had the song Baobabs on my ipod for a very long time. I can't believe i never realized that Regina Spektor was talking about Le Petit Prince, and we are almost done with the book! J'adore Regina et Le petit prince!
this reminds me of the Taming of the Shrew... the part saying, "you have tamed me, now you must take me. how am i supposed to be? i don't have my thorns."
The song is beautiful. When i read the title on the 'related videos' i was like, Baobabs?? NO WAY!!! I officially adore and greatly admire her, like we all should =]
I HAVE THE BOOK BY THE FRENCH GUY. I was looking on iTunes & I saw it then I was determined to look it up because I was like BAOBABS. FAMILIAR. =] regina spektor is so cool, man.
"Le Petit Prince" is a children's book written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It's really, really beautiful and you should definitely check it out. This song references the story a lot.
It's one of my favorite books, and therefore this is one of my favorite songs by Regina.
this is beautiful. I love Le Petit Prince. Anyways, you know that Begin to Hope is an actual track? I think she only played it once but you can find it in this big fansite. It's a great song too. It's just sad that almost nobody knows about it. You can just imagine how small that population is.
I agree that it is beautiful and I love Le Petit Prince also! And thanks for letting me know that Begin to Hope is an actual track! I really love it! Although I do love all of Regina's songs.
Oh my god, that is just like the town I live in. I want my kids to be sweet and innocent. Not all savvy since all the savvy kids think their all that and are jerks. Btw, Spektor rocks!~
This!.... This is....a pivitol time in my life! I've never heard this song, but I loev Regina and The Little Prince Equally....Lovely:))))))))))*laughs and crys at the same time*
