  • I could deal with both. I love western! When you are working cows you just cannot use a english saddle. If it involves horses I love it!!!

  • I ride both english and western and still i prefer bareback :). Both western and english are equally fun and have their perks, but you cant base this on wieght because horses are built to carry wieght and a large person in a english saddle wieghs the same as a small person in a western saddle. Also some western saddles have tree that make them light and some english saddles are built heavier than others. My dressage saddle weighs the same as my western saddle :)

  • I do not care if you ride english or western... As long as you are a good horseman. Just my thoughts.

  • english is wayy better!! but western isnt as dangerous as english

  • You Know , Western Riding Is No Different Than English. They're Both Used For Different Purposes , One Isn't Better Than The Other. I Ride Both , But Prefer To Ride Western For The Sole Reason My Horse Enjoys It More . And Saying That Western Isn't " The Way Of The Equestrian " Makes No Sense. People Have Been Riding Horses Western For Just As Long As People Have Been Riding English. People Make Up This Image Of Western Riders Being Horrible Horse Abusers But We Love Our Horses As Much As You.

  • haha where saves it than

  • see i do both son i can't really say which is better. love jumping but love being able to ride in shorts with out chaps, o and barrel raceing to lol :)

  • Sorry, but I dont like English. I think they pull on the poor horse's mouth too much. But thats just my opinion. Western all the way<3

  • @alyssandtaylor -- I have seen plenty of western riders put their horses in a bit with a huge shank and yank on their horses mouths. I have seen plenty of english riders put 'barb wire' bits into horses mouths- and yank. The point it- whether western or english it has to be with contact and connection, what looks like "yanking" to you may be simply traveling ;)

  • WESTREN ALL THE WAY! IT'S THE WAY OF EQUESTRIAN! English, not so much... :)

  • 2:05 <3

  • englcih all the way!

  • no offence but stuid videa

  • english=cool western=cool... aren't we all horse riders? y dont we all just accept the fact that there's different kinds of horse riding, yes, but inside every single one of us and inside our horses, we are all connected through the way of horsemanship :) i ride english... most of my friends ride western. do i care? no.

  • The main reason I don't like riding western is because I have no desire to put such an extremely heavy thing on my horse's back. And because I have no contact with him, the massive amounts of leather prevent good symbiosis. Blah, ride your horses and enjoy yourselves. If a Western saddle does it for you then go you!

  • @Nizingur At least you didn't say English was way better. Still we aren't torchering horses. They are quite strong. Western isn't about the saddle or the cost of it.

  • @Nizingur

    hahaha

i'm a western rider, i did both and with natural horsemanship you only need 1 rope and thats it to have that bond with your horse.

Sorry but spores, reins, whips....Don't like that...

  • @AmazoneCowgirl I practice NH too.

  • I ride both english and western but I finished with western and now i know all there is to know 'bout western so i just think English is a little more fun. Im still learning but that is my opinion

  • 0:35 ummm looks very cruel...im pretty sure that horse broke its neck.

  • @putaface101 Well duh it looks cruel. The horse fell o.O

  • @putaface101 Cruel? It's called an ACCIDENT, dumbo. There's far worse ones out there and the horses very rarely break anything. Look up phoebe buckley and little tiger's fall and you'll understand what I mean. Horses' skeletons are capable of taking a bit of a beating, they're sturdier than they look!

  • @Nizingur Its cruel...I'd like to see the horse land on the rider, see how they like it.

  • @putaface101 You know, cruelty implies intent. You're actually theorising that she made her horse fall on her? And yes, a lot of the time the horses DO fall ON people. Trust me, it's happened to me. And it's got nothing to do with cruelty. It's called an ACCIDENT. Grow up!!

  • @Nizingur This "sport" is stupid...period. Go jump over poles and ramps your damn self....o wait, you can't...its too hard

  • @putaface101 oooh, THIS "sport" is stupid. How about for stupid - let's see, um, running round and round some barrels as fast as you can while whipping your horse? How about that for cruelty and wearing out your horse's joints prematurely? There's a helluvalot better venues for HORSEMANSHIP than that. Cross-country has nothing to do with cruelty. And I say that as someone who has never competed cross-country.

    Grow up!

  • @Nizingur I don't ride horses...so I don't understand why your talking about barrels.........

  • @putaface101 Then STFU because you don't know shit about what you're talking about! Perhaps it isn't a coincidence that your username is whoreface101?!

  • @Nizingur smelly cunt bitch

  • @Nizingur go suck your horses dick

  • @putaface101 u sicken me... get a life and leave us horse ppl alone.

  • @putaface101 You can't say shit if you don't even ride horses.

Also, your name suits you, bitch face.

  • @putaface101 U RUN AROUND BARRELS ON HORSES. it's called "BARREL RACING" Say it with me now... "barrel... racing..." GET A CLUE AND LOOK IT UP. plus, if u don't ride horses, then u r u watching this???

  • @Nizingur Actually most barrel racers do not use crops.Every single barrel racer I know doesn't whip their horse.I am a barrel racer and I think that is cruel.Which is why I hate horse racing. Not every single barrel racer uses a whip..So don't go and saying that we are cruel to our horses.Every discipline uses a crop.It just depends on the rider.

  • @BlackDemonicWolf Oh,and one more thing.yes, your horse can last a long time (years) in jumping, without having any major problems, but arthritis and other leg and such ailments will catch up sooner or later.

  • @BlackDemonicWolf I don't know if that was intended for me. But I agree, jumping is really detrimental to a horse's joints, especially their front legs. A lot of showjumpers end up with clacification (and I recently saw an old ex-jumper for sale "sound, but has had a life as a jumper and of course his joints bear some sign of this" - fffuuu!). Horses just aren't designed by nature to jump. Personally my thing is dressage. : ) And driving. And a lot of trail-y stuff.

  • @BlackDemonicWolf I had the misfortune to meet an absolutely awful person on here not so long ago, claimed that "sometimes you just have to pop your horse", "everyone pops them around the barrels and it's necessary" etc etc etc. I tried to contradict her but her ignorance was staggering. I'm sorry that it's turned me into a bit of a cynic at the moment =( I don't mind barrel racing, just idiots.

  • @BlackDemonicWolf Also, as someone who's worked on the track a while, I can help clear something up too! : ) Firstly, rules prohibit jockeys from hitting their horses unnecessarily. Secondly, when you see it wagging up and down during the race? They're just waving it to keep the horse seeing it. Most jockeys choose to hit their boot instead of the horse. And finally... most of the crops in racing are padded and designed to make a lot of noise. So it's not as bad as it looks!

  • @Nizingur Wow...Sorry about this but I commented on the wrong post.xD I myself do not do much barrels.Personally it's sorta boring..I do not like english but I do enjoy jumping every now and then when I am riding bareback or on the trails when I have to jump.Anywho,I did not know that about racing..I thought it was just normal crops.Sorry.

  • @BlackDemonicWolf I enjoy clearing up misunderstandings! : ) There's a whole lotta wrongs with the racing industry, but the crops aren't as bad as they look.

  • @putaface101 excuse me?! horse riding is about the most rough and tumble there is. ur working with a 1,200 lb animal who is a gentle giant. if u love them, they love u back. u have to ride ur horse or at least walk it around in order for it to survive. Horses are 10x better than u'll ever be. or any human for that fact. ive wanted to be a horse ever since i was little because they r beautiful, strong, willing, and gentle. u just want attention, don't u? that's y ull never b awesome like horses

  • @BananaBreyer What she said !

  • I don't care if I am riding English or Western. I just care if I'm having fun with the horse I'm riding on. Horses understand me more then people do. They know when I'm happy or when I'm sad. They don't make fun of my dyslexia. They care for me. Thats all that matters. So please if you have a f**king rude comments to English or Western keep it to yourself. Ow, and one more thing both English and Western are both really hard. English you have to post. But in Western you go really fast. Thanks

  • 0:36 is like holy crappppp

  • A horse, and rider that can do both; now thats an equestrian. Its very important that you as an equetrian is very versatile. Your horse as well. Being so concrete minded wont get you too far. Riding more than 1 discipline makes you much more knowledgeble.

  • why can't we agree english and western for the sake of people that do both disiplines? i am one of those people that ride both... yes i do love english but western does test your skills. they are both difficult to master but once you do they are both wonderful

  • well, i prefer english because to me it is more challenging . Western is still hard but not as hard because english you have to learn to not use a horn and use more balance. i LOVE english and it is my life<3

  • I ride both and enjoy them both the same! :)

  • English is much harder than western, i don;t want to fight but rising trot is one of the hardest thing you'll ever learn in english riding, to keep the rythym and all when you guys are cnatering you have a handdle to hold on out of the saddle . we dont

  • @ilovehorsesbron Posting is easier on the horses back. There is so much more you can do while riding English like jumping.

    To all his/ her own.

  • Nice job on not fighting -.-...Everybody has a passion,so lets all be mature and stop fighting,it does no good.

  • @OneLivingPassion And by passion I mean preference.

  • I ride both but my horse is more comfortable doing western because she has a low head but she does do a bit of dressage but its award :/

  • english always

  • I would love to try English riding, but for now... <3 WESTERN!!!

  • @chloeloveshorses1000 not true at all. Western riding requires talent, just as much talent as English riding. I prefer western.

  • @AVERY1249 sure... whatever you say. :)

  • BOTH for the life !

  • ENGLISH is SOO MUCH BETTER. FOREVER AND EVER. IT'S THE WAY OF EQUESTRIAN. Western, not so much...

  • @xoDarcyTheMarexo It's a matter of opinion.I love Western..But I don't sit there and bad mouth English.Who cares if you ride English or Western? Everyone rides for the same reason.Because we love horses. Why can't people like you just accept that? Seriously.

  • @xoDarcyTheMarexo Just because you like it doesn't mean it's better. Western was the original riding style. It is the saddle where Equestrian was born. It is as much of Equestrian as English. I'm not saying it's bad. I used to ride English. Western, I think, makes you more partners with your horse because it challenges you more then English and that's a fact.

  • @xoDarcyTheMarexo

    hahaha

i'm a western rider, i did both and with natural horsemanship you only need 1 rope and thats it to have that bond with your horse.

Sorry but spores, reins, whips....Don't like that...

But yeeaaah , it is wayy more natural to FORCE the horse instead of asking it and do it out of trust ;)

  • @xoDarcyTheMarexo yes but an english horse doesnt trail ride well... western is better for that, especialy the 50+ mile ones that take days, english horses need pretty gaits and posture, western horses need endurance and being able to handle all terrain

  • Hallloooooooooo Westernreiten ist nicht nur Barrel Racing da gibts auch noch andere Sachen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Peppygirl92 German German German barrel racing German German German...

  • The picture at 1:00 is pirated, it says right on the picture "not for public use"!

    Dude! Do you have morals?

  • I ride in an english saddle, I ride in a western saddle, I ride in a park saddle, I ride in a sidesaddle, I ride a balanced seat; I also drive horses, I also train horses...there is something to be learned from each breed, saddle, trainer and horse...get over yourselves...get your heads out of your asses and do something different...LEARN.

  • I ride and show both english and western performance. Western is my favorite cuz I LOVE bling but I find english is easier cuz you ride two handed and can have upto four reins unlike western you only get one hand lol It iritates me when people fight over which disciplin is better without trying anything but there own disciplin!!!!!!!

  • i ride english coz the eqeustrian center whont let me ride western das probly coz im in england and she's annoyin but some times i ride western just to tick her of she go bright red when she's angry lol.

  • i don't go either english or western. i don't use any painful devices on my horses. i go with a rope halter from walmart and a pad. my horses are not trained seals or robots. i will not risk their health in anything for a stupid prize or blue ribbon. but you enjoy. just don't see an ex-ray of your horse's head and don't complain when your horse's feet get @#@!@ up from shoes, or ulcers from bits.

  • @chrisvpena I'm sorry but don't call saddles, bridles, and bits "painful" if this equipment is used/fit properly, the horse will not get injury from them. When horses get ulcers it's usually because someone is hanging onto their mouth by keeping the reins tight. Spirited horses NEED bits. Just a rope halter is not going to prevent a spirited horse from bolting. Yes, it is nice if you have a nice calm horse who will listen to just a rope halter, but not all horses will.

  • enlgish people are such snobs... they think there better then everyone.. westren tend to be more friendly

  • I'm english, show jumping to be exact, but I'd love the opportunity to try riding western, or even ride both.

  • i just gotta say both I love both

  • I ride English, but I've ridden Western a few times too. I enjoy both, and I don't see why people have to argue over which is "better".

  • i like western because i feel safer

  • ENGLISH

  • i ride english, but i would love to try western(but in a aussie stock saddle XD)

  • The only difference is the tack. I just prefer english saddles b/c i feel less trapped, and unlike most people I'm actually afraid of the horn. I had a horse try to backflip on my once and had she not thrown me the horn would have went through my chest and killed me.

  • I ride english and western and neither is any better than the other. They are both just as tough and the other. (:

  • 2:11 the foal is jumping over a mare giving birth~!

    lololololollollollollollollollollolollollol

  • skip them both and ride Australian. you'll never go back to either one.

  • @HarryPotterCritters Haha aussie riding is the best lol

  • The Difference is a saddle. You can slide stop in an English Saddle or do dressage moves in a Western Saddle.. The important part is to make sure it fits the horse correctly!!

  • If you can only ride in one discipline you will never be well rounded.

  • never tried western :( wish i could though!

  • Ride Both styles, showed in English hunter Jumper and dressage and have rode western trail and pleasure and have used a cross saddle for cross country. i don't understand the bias between the two disciplines. but i am happy to enjoy both, to each his own.

  • I used to ride both, fox hunting, english pleasure, working horse, barrels n poles, endurance n trail riding. even did team penning.... 20 ys, ALL IS GOOD

  • I ride English but western is super cool to.

  • the horse pictured @ 0:37 was killed in this accident, the rider nearly so. why would you use this as an example of support for ANY point of view??

  • @rinzerider why not? its a picture of discpline nothing wrong with using it

  • BOTH <3 :)

  • I ride English but seeing as I live in England it would be very strange for any normal riding school to only teach Western xD. I'd like to go on some sort of ranch holiday in the states some time though :). It's a culture thing really.

  • western wins big time

  • WESTERN!

  • BOTH !!! You can ride a dressage without any reins, epic ! :)

  • English can look so bloody pretentious.

  • go bareback!

  • i ride english but both are great, depends on what your used

  • I love and ride both.. actually people that say they only like on disciple will never become well rounded riders. I ride in reined cow horse, gymkhana, hunter/jumper and dressage

  • Horses for life - and cross training for the win! Me and my mare go English, Western, bareback... we don't give a shit, like a mothafuckin' honeybadger.

  • umm... how about bareback... i win.

  • ENGLISH & WESTERN for live and NEVER changing! xD

  • I'm dutch and english is more common here but ehh.. Does it really matter? To be honest I love the chique ways of english and I love the badass ways of the west just as much.. It depends on what the rider prefers.. anyways, I love all Horse fanatics <3

  • awsome vid by the way

  • considering theres no actual western pleasure.

  • ENGLISH for life and NEVER changing! ;D

  • its frustrating that there's no picture of the zebra horse in this but you use it as the front picture, it's the only reason I'm watching this video. I think that when people make a deal about this kind of thing, it only divides people more, and the argument is actually now about traditional or natural horsemanship not necessarily english or western, both have examples of harsh bits and equipment that are harmful to horses physically and mentally, so I'm against both types to be honest

  • dressage <3

  • @1dressagefreak YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!

  • I think you can do both

  • ENGLISH

  • @HorseLoverAoife go you!

  • It's both nice.. en lovely to do..

but i think horses enjoy western more..

    en me too<3

  • its ok if you choose western... not everybody has talent

  • @chloeloveshorses1000 Excuse me?

  • @MegaMsOrange you herd me! GO ENGLISH!

  • @MegaMsOrange I know... the truth hurts sometimes

  • WESTERN!

  • @TheLillipop101 I'm sorry... you never got the wonderful english experience!

  • I think English and Western are equal in all aspects. Both disciplines CAN, not saying they always do, but CAN cause pain to the horses. But yet both can be fun. Both have their perks and both have their disadvantages. Ive been a western rider ever since i can remember. That will never change, but i dont see the point in some people, no, a lot of people saying one discipline is better.

  • WESTERN for life and NEVER changing!

  • I'm English, ride english, teach english, train horses in english and LOVE English, so disciplined and beautiful to behold, plus come one jumping is the best.

I also ride western, teach western and train horses in western, it's so free and relaxing and barrel racing is the ultimate thrill.

I love both disciplines but even though I am English I prefer Western!

  • I'd rather ride western any day. English is a bit too structured for my tastes. I like to just run out in the pasture, swing up, and go bridle-less.

  • ENGLISH forever

  • I like western,aspecialy the western saddles,they're safer!

  • @Karolina20021 if you want safeness you shouldn't even be involved with horses.

  • @Karolina20021 I agree about the saddles! Western saddles are waaaaay more beautifull!

  • 61 people hate horses!

  • english. (hunter/jumper) iv ridden for 7 years. its prettier. more proper, just better all around. western is sloppy... seriously it should only be used on a farm for getting from one place to another and herding cattle. i cant stand people who say, "oh i do both"... like no. just no. pick one. but hey if u like it, then cool. just dont bring it around me. aside from that we should all really stick together because we all have one thing in common....we love our horses<33

  • @Horsejumper44 when i ride it is NOT proper or graceful! haha xD. im a reckless rider lol. i legit gallop between the jumps! i kinda have an obsession with going fast! and i like to jump so high that it is imposible to look nice, but hey. if being a crazy english rider means i take home blue ribbons ill do it! (i think there is an exception to the 'prettiness' in jumper classes) xD thats were the REAL riding is AT!!!!!!!! lol hehehe

  • western. defenitly western.

  • @1horsemane1 ew . . . no, just no.

  • i ride english but western is fun too! i just prefer riding english!

  • I do english ( eventing, HJ) my horse loves it. I don't think he could take a Western saddle, VERY high withered TB! BUt i love Western too!

  • lol i ride and show both in English and Western on my horse i don't see why you should argue about which ones better both are beneficial to the way you ride in the two styles.

  • i once rode english saddle western bridle! it was weird

  • now i am a very big english eventer. but i am also a big barrel racer. you people need to stop fighting over this. both sports are demanding. i have been doing it for a long time and i have seen alot. i love jumping 4ft show jumps! but i also love running barrels! its a passion we all love and we have to get along!

  • I ride and love both, but i am more comfortable riding western then English

  • I love both very much u can learn alot of diffrent things from each type of riding and they are equally as good as each other in differnt ways.

  • I like English the best, I've been riding English for about 9 years. I love jumping with the horses and cross country and dressage. I've done western a little bit but I'd have to say that I like English a lot more, it's more comfortable. Just my opinion. . .

  • @HorseshoeStables11 Same english is wayyy better! :)

  • i have rode both. i Like english better because i like jumping with my pony and with english you can ride any size horse/pony because the saddle is light weight so it doesnt hurt their backs.I don't really like western the saddle was too heavy and i didnt like riding so far back and just going over ground poles for 4 years but thats just my opinion.

  • *cough* western *cough* sucks *cough* :P english all the way, can't even imagine riding a horse without jumping 4 foot show jumps in complecated courses! <3 JUMPING IS MY LIFE! ^.^

  • @AwkwardTacos

    same here!!

  • @AwkwardTacos Are you hunters or jumpers?

  • @16handsoffunfunfun JUMPERS!!! cant stand hunters -.-* blaa Hunters is a rigged joke to me, its rediculous. The only riding i acnowledge as real is Dressage, Jumpers, Cross Contry, and Endurence Riding.

  • @AwkwardTacos

Oh my gosh, I freakin love you AwkwardTacos!! I just started eventing with my horse. It's the greatest!

  • @16handsoffunfunfun OMG!! good luck!! i hope u guys do well! I'm not very far into my riding career (im pretty young, but advanced for my age) after ive mastered jumping (which should be soon) i want to start taking dressage lessons. then *POW* eventing!! i want to eventually get were ur at, thats my ultimite goal! :) (first i think i need to figure out how we can afford owning a horse insteed of just lessons xD) Let me know how u do at ur next show!!! ;D

  • @AwkwardTacos Thanks! You should try leasing a horse first. Good luck.

  • I think that they areboth great sports!!! But, I do likethe englidh saddle better than westrn. But thats just my opion :)

  • I don't see how this can even be fought over. All disciplines are designed for different purposes. If a certain rider is an ass, doesn't mean that the discipline is worthless. Some English riders say that all Western riders are rude and vice versa.

I would definitely say that my Dressage saddle is the comfiest but that's my own preference and I would never get rid of or stop using my Roping saddle. Just because you've sat in an English saddle once doesn't mean you know them all and vice versa.

  • I barrel race english :P I love both <3

  • What war? My son's Welsh Pony mare rides, Hunter, Western, Dressage & Halter! I also do believe she is trained for fine harness too, but do to the fact that we have no harness nor cart, we haven't tried her yet. But the best part is she loves my son & won't intentionally hurt him. With as talented as she is, I wouldn't put it past her to pull or run speed events! Super, super pony! Gotta lover her!

  • english. Western isn't very comforting :/

  • Personally I prefer english for showing, but for leisure i ride my horses western. The only competition i ride western in reining. Western IS more comfortable, but english makes the horse look better in my opinion :)

  • the music is afending with the curssing and you seem to favor english

  • western and english are both good for different things. yeah the western saddle is comfier and is better for trekking and you can't do rodeo games in an english saddle. but you can't exactly do showjumping and racing in western gear, the saddle's just too heavy! this war does need to stop, they're both good for different things and not good for others and believe it or not, both as bloody dangerous as the other! so stop arguing!

  • Barrel racing doesn't really hurt our horses as long as we know what were doing it hurts us more. Plus it creates a good bond between horse and rider. I've never done English stuff ive rode in the saddles and rode on an English horse. I don't really like the feel of the saddles. western has this laid back comfort i like.

  • I enjoy huntseat and western. My perfermence is western because I love riding a horse trained on a drape, but I can appreciate the feel of a hunt saddle with bridle. Western to me feels more broke, but hunt seat feels more connected.

  • Personall,y I prefer both. I rode Western for 4 years, found great people, great horses, great fun there. And I've ridden english for s while too now. Found great horses, great people, great fun there too. I don't se why one diciplin has to be better than one another.

  • Why do you call this video 'english vs. western'?? You just put a few photos of western in it and these photos are just from barrel race... This isn't western... western is f ex cutting, pleasure, horsemanship, showmanship at halter, reining, trail, ect. i dont like barrel race, cause the most riders hurt their horses in this part of westernriding. i f ex go to pleasure, trail, horsemanship and showmanship at halter... and this is ok :)

I think you say 'dont fight', but you like english more...

  • i don't get how you made it "english vs. western" when you hardly put any western in, other than barrel racing and a few other photos here and there.. you have forgotten the most vital western sport - cutting. it is full of adrenaline and shows the true and raw talent a horse has. don't get me wrong - i used to jump, very well actually but wowee, once i tried cutting, i sold my TB's, bought a quarter horse and i have never stopped.

  • Bothh, i useee english for jumpss on my showw horseee n westernn for barrell racinnggg onn myyy barrell horseee, x

  • I dont get this. English and western are both REALLY difficult disciplines.
