@aeortiz2004 I agree that fighting with a sword is much harder than firing a pistol, I do Kendo myself for 1 year now. But I'm also a sports shooter since 3 years now and I can tell you: mastering a firearm is also far away from being easy. If you don't believe it, go to a firing range and try it. What both things have in common: you have to be in a different state of mind to really master them. When it comes to shooting, it's not just pulling the trigger.
@Heartwork79 Sorry if I did offend you but other nonsense commentary was saying that a Colt 45 can undo 50 years of sword training. Could be right but I found that disrespectful for the Master that is performing his art. In addition, I have been in a firing range and I agree with you. Again my apologies....
@aeortiz2004 you didn't offend me, no worries. And I agree with you on the comment of this other guy, it IS disrespectful. I just wanted to make it clear that guns are not THAT easy to handle. And killing, no matter if with the sword or the gun, is NEVER easy I guess.
This is absolutely amazing - apparently all shoden and Chuden waza of MJER. absoluitely beautiful, great source of inspiration for practice. I am in awe at the mastery ! Thank you so much for posting this video !
He is going to cut his head off.. and it's my birthday too!!! :) Cheers for the video, this is great. Apparently cutting your thumb off sheathing the sword is an issue for people practicing with real ones :)
@BravoCharlieTV well i wonder because normally you'd be sliding the back end of the sword against your hand... guess that a lot can happen in that split second right before being sheathed....
Haga Sensei was considered a genius. And if you know something about Iai you would understand how outstanding his waza is in this video. He was also famous for taking on multiple opponents, at one time defeating 5 soldiers armed with shinai and to wooden guns used in jukendo. Our Kendo practice follows pr-war rules. So, body checking, taiatari, and grappling, kumiuchi, are allowed.
This is beautiful. It is not raw or undeveloped just because it is not seitei.
Seitei is an introduction to iaido. It is 'standard' in the sense 'standardised' for the purposes of grading and competition. It is not 'standard' in the sense of a standard to measure other things against.
This is not the Seitei or some raw proto-form. He is performing the Omori Ryu and the Hasegawa Eishin Ryu of the EIshin Ryu lineage. He has some not so good habits that I can only conjecture must come from long training with a shinai.
@kbs1138 Do you know he is considered as one of the three great genius of 20th centuries budo...? With Kano and Ueshiba, every move and his incredible sens of art are amazing. We can see the his warrior intentions in each second of practice. It really change from the usual moderate way of training in 21st century iaido. The "politically correct" form of being and practicinc Budo of our century is a shame for all martial arts...
Any moron can fire the Colt...to do this swordsmanship u have to be special...primarily in your head...

A colt 45 can soon undo 50 years of Sword training. Just look at Raiders of the lost Ark sword fighters scene and you will see my point.

mostly likely an iato that is lighter than a real shinken, still very impressive skill and determination and focus

@genin69 swords do seem to move around a bit, but I wouldn't be so sure these are not shinken. Consider who they are.

Aye thats the problem with Seitei its been "developed" and no longer resembles the roots it comes from, it's all about shape and form
