I had the pleasure of attending school in Rochester, NY with Steve Green the bass player and group co-founder. He had relocated from Philly to Roch for a short while (circa 1973) and attended the alternative high school, the School Without Walls where I met him through a mutual friend. About 6 years later I had the added pleasure of booking Breakwater for a concert at SUNY College at Brockport. They did not disappoint!
love this song i heard it yesterday an i was jammin i was 3 yr when this song came out an i still jam until this day to it!! Thanks for the post VEEWEE ; )
To freein2339 they are back together, they just performed at the Oak Lane jazz fest in Philly last week, getting ready to release a new cd. They performed one of the cuts sound pretty good. By the way they were awesome!!!!!!!
@mscarol51 I understand that bro and I saw them at the Oak Lane jazz fest...BUT...This is 2010...they started in 1971 and broke up after two albums...I know it's no of my business since I'm not in the group or immediate family ...But as a fan it hurts to see all that home grown talent not go further....
I just love this song soo much! I can not get enough of it. I have to hear it every day, it just makes my day.... I love dancing to it too. One of the "best" back in the day songs ever......
I find this to be one of the Freshest, Happiest and tuneful songs from the era. It's sparkling with energy ! Just the job.. As good as the day it was cut.
Even though I'm from Chicago I went to college right outside Philly (Villanova). I go home the summer of 1980 all excited and trying to play my Breakwater album and my friends were't feeling it in Chicago. I was so hurt. This group got no exposure! Tragic!
Smokin.. brilliant track during a brilliant era in music...life in general. Fond memories growing up in the n.y.c. as a youth playin stickball, block partys & major cookouts that help resurface fond memories just from the smell of family, food & classic tunes like this 1. Peace to the old school heads!!!
I'm from Philly like "Freein2339". I used to spin @ the Wynne Ballroom & we had our share of "Legendary" parties & Breakwater was always in the mix. Underrated Philly Band who used to rock the Block Parties in Philly during the summers. Thanks for the post VeeWee
Breakwater Baby! about as bad as they come. Incredible vocals, Island flair. I love this group, thank you! Wittenberg University, my man Todd from Rochester brought Breakwater to the midwest. Thanks again for loading this!
Choooon! Soooo many memories! Flicks, Stage 3, The Gold Mine, Zero 6, Joanna's, The Regency, TOTS, Paradise Lost, Hilly's and many many more... Happy times!!!
@nardi310762 ,,i can remember them playing at our prom..brook..75...they had so many funky bands in philly during that time...good music was everywhere
Can anyone help me find what other song I'm thinking about when I hear the main bassline riff? Particularly the first 2 beats. Likely another funk track, but could also be house.
BREAKWATER REUNION CONCERT LIVE AT WORLD CAFE LIVE Sunday, January 3, 2010 Time: 7:30pm - 11:30pm Location: 3025 WALNUT ST. PHILA. PA. 19104 215 222-1400

Yeaaaaaah Flagg Brother's, that "stow" was the joint, I bought all of my "plats" there! Remember when....what we called here in Connecticut "Marshmallow-Plats" came out, they had the white "Marshmallow" look heel.....those were the joint!! What about "Bill The Hatter" and "Elaganza" order flyers Not sure of the spelling. I use to buy all kinds of clothes and shoes from those "stows"! G-MAG
believe it or not I actually used to mix this with Fatback Band -The Girl is Fine even though they came out a few years apart. Breakwater...Good stuff here folks LOL!
