  • I saw this on Friends, later the smelly cat song was played..LOLOL

  • This lady is a true artist.Amazing how her voice can be so sexy, but bring a tear to your eye at the same time! (:

  • Shivers down my spine.

  • Check Chrissie doing I got you babe, with UB40.Great.Jen rocks by the way.

  • There's a time-cut between here saying "I wrote this", and her playing of this song.

  • I love Chrissy Hynde, she has a hauntingly beautiful voice. This song was written by Chip Taylor, and Marilee Rush did the most famous version of it.

  • Rock Goddess !!

  • She should have gone into friends with her real name not the name she went in to friends with and she should have done more episodes in friends!!!

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww love you chrissie n jennifer n lisa

  • Love Chrissie

  • Best version ever !!!!!

  • i loved it!!!!

  • I lost all respect for Chrissy when she claimed this song...total bullshit. This song has been in existence since Chrissy was playing hopscotch,,,,

  • @yadicat she didn't claim this song, they cut this episode for this video, she played another song after saying that, and half episode later she was playing angel of the morning

  • @yadicat I think you'll find Stephanie Shiffer claimed this song here... In the sitcom "Friends". It's not real life!

  • THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN BY MERLILEE RUSH IN WASHINGTON STATE BACK IN THE 70's

  • @yadicat Sorry but this song was written by Chip Taylor

  • @yadicat And wrong again! Written by Chip Taylor! Wow, you're a total twat!

  • jerry's a jerk and he wont let me work and i hate central perk!

  • @thirtydreadlocks a guy that had a restaurant that looked like central perk sued ASCAP because he said they were over charging him and furthermore he specified that ASCAP didnt have any list of which songs they controled because some songs are controled by BMI

  • Chrissy Hynde is legendary.

  • Not since Patsy Cline died have I heard heartache so clearly articulated in song. Chrissie is a nightingale, and one of the finest female singer songwriters to ever pick up a guitar, IMHO. When you can hear one note and know who it is singing it, that's talent, my friends. Tough but vulnerable, smart and beautiful. She's got it all.

  • INtresting trivia--the man who wrote this song (chip Taylor) is actually named James Voight and is brother of actor Jon Voight--he also wrote that ubiquitous tune "Wild Thing" Amazin', huh

  • sadly people on Merrilee Rush's site credit this song to Karen Carpenter instead of Chrissy Hynde as if....her voice is so unique how can they even think it? LOL

  • Amazing how her look is most timeless (and hot) of all those in the coffeehouse. No?

  • Smelly cat

  • juice newton's version was the best. Hands down.

  • WOW!!! Thanks for posting-----LOVELY~!

  • thanks so much! how did u get the full version of the song? the episode showed only around 30 seconds

  • @226halo I think it is because on some TVs episodes are cutted. I downloaded full episodes and there is whole song like in this clip. :)

  • I agree, this is the best version...

  • amazing

  • with lyrics this video would be perfect!

  • Incredible version...

  • WHY IS THERE A MULATTO IN THE PICTURE ? RUINS EVERYTHING

  • you've gotta be kiddin' when u say best version. You really are kiddin',AREN'T CHA???

  • Love you, Chrissie! Anyway, listen to Nina Simone doing this. Takes you to a different place. It's all good.

  • Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome and beautiful song

  • wooow

  • I agree with you there it is the best version of 'Angel Of the morning' !

  • To all those who are not TRUE Friends fans and are not familiar with this episode (season 2 epi 6 btw):

Chrissie Hynde wasn't claiming to have wrote Angel Of The Morning. The line was actually

"I'll like to start with a song, that I wrote for the first man I ever loved.......................Zackary!!!" This line was obviously cut but was the song she was referring to.

  • @1985browneyedgirl right she is playing a character in a tv show named steffani that claims to know every chord

  • Fab song

  • I love Chrissy, but Juice Newton owns this song hands down.

  • @flxdcatbruce you forgot to say in my opinion.

  • No, I didn't forget. Like I said, I sure love Chrissy but that doesn't mean that every song she does can't be done better....take a moment and listen to Juice Newtons version.

  • @flxdcatbruce It's your OPINION, as a matter of fact, I looked up that cover, and Chrissie still did it better.

  • she says that she wrote it? but that's not true..

anyway, i feel so sorry for pheebs! but it's still beautiful rendition

  • @xNOUKSTARR No, the person who posted this has cut part of it...she sings something else before she sings this song (though we don't hear all of it because Phoebe cuts over her after she sings the first line)

  • @xNOUKSTARR

I think she said it for the show, but you are right, she (Chrissie Hynde) did not write it, Chip Taylor, aka James Voight did.

(who by the way is the brother of Jon Voight} and the uncle of Angelina Jolie)

  • luv dis song.. it holdz a very special place.. :)

  • love this song P.S. Who knew that Christiane Amanpour was the lead singer of The Pretenders?

  • Juice Newton, Kelly Garrett, Nina Simone, Jill Johnson, Bonnie Tyler, PPArnold, Billie Davies, ABBA, and many more including the original composer of Angel of the Morning..... Chip Taylor and yes, even Shaggy cannot hold a candle to Chrissie Hynde!!!!! This right here is the best version ever!!!!!!

  • @TravelsOfTheMind ....You are either deaf, daft or related to chrissie in someway......which is it...?......may I cite john mc enroe.s famous words ...." YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS"!!!!!

  • Even if nobody on the cast knew who she was they still had to be completely beside themselves watching this performance 3 feet in front of them.

  • Written and composed by Chip Taylor.

  • WOW! I love Chrissie more now then ever! She has the most unique voice that is unforgettable and unmistakable. I hope she will keep performing and touring forever.

  • @reverendflash actually, this is a clip from an episode of friends. she was playing a musician, hence the claim that she had written the song.

  • Actually if you watch the whole episode, after she claims to have written a song, she starts to sing a different song! Then when they fade back into Central Perk, she starts singing Angel of the Morning. Hence its still a cover song! lol

  • @augiboo Actually if you watch the whole episode, after she claims to have written a song, she starts to sing a different song! Then when they fade back into Central Perk, she starts singing Angel of the Morning. Hence its still a cover song! lol

  • This is not a great version, and why is she saying she wrote it? Oh, that's right. She's a pretender.

  • @reverendflash you're an idiot. she's awesome! and btw whoever uploaded the clip, cut scenes. she's talking abt writing a different song!

  • @reverendflash My sentiments entirely......worst version there is....her voice would be better suited to "wild thing" also written by chip taylor.

  • Juice Newton is the BEST!!!

  • @forestroot It's better than having to listen to the ignorant rants of some dimwitted racist.

  • FRIENDS!!!!!

  • royal flush lees nou die pm die ik stuurde

  • My god she looks so mutch like nena kerner who sang 99 luft ballons .Its amazing

  • @fartface801

may'be but that where the similarity ends :)

  • Chrissie hynde looks like nena kerner who had a mega hit with 99 luft ballons

  • I didn't notice who this was!!!!!!!!!

  • In answer to your question, Yes that is Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders.

  • I heard this song for the 1st time on friends and had to buy it...and didn't find this exact...but she sounds the most like the Pretenders version (just not accoustic though). But come on YouTubers I'm a bit dissapointed... I also do not know if she is the singer of the Pretenders...and no one has answered MrZiam's same question from a year ago!?

  • where did you get the song ??

  • @sweetchocolate3342

huuh??no waay,i've got the dvd and the whole song doesnt apear !!

  • @GirlinBlue98 maybe on some dvds... she only sings part of the song on my dvd too, unfortunately.

  • @IfICantMakeYouLoveMe that sucks !

  • she has the most fuckable voice that i have ever heard

  • because its a tv show, duh... if everything people said on tv had to be true then tv would be very boring

  • She never wrote this very well known song,so why say she did...my mistake about her being in school however...she,s a lot older than i had imagined.

  • @speedcrane Her name in this episode is Stephanie, not even her real name. She is playing a character, and on the episode, her CHARACTER wrote it. Jesus some people are so dumb.

  • @Duhonovan You mean her character falsely claimed to have written it........I think she should have sung that other well known song written by her character....."WILD THING".....It would really have suited her voice much better.

  • @speedcrane It's just a line in a tv show, and I'm sure the original writer of the song doesn't give a damn. in fact, this probably made the song even more popular and gave it a bigger audience who wanted to hear it more, searched for it and found out the different versions of it. No one is going to be watching it and think:"Hey that FICTIONAL character in that SITCOM must have wrote that song."

  • WHAT DID SHE SAY..".THE SONG I WROTE"....this song was written by CHIP TAYLOR....when she was probably in school .......and covered far far better by numerous artists including PAT ARNOLD and BILLIE DAVIS.

  • @speedcrane Stop shouting smartass! This is from a tv series...

  • In the 70's- she was one wench that could hang with the boys.

Just like many other great American performers, she sought her musicians from abroad due our stereotypes.

  • She has beautiful voice..=')

  • I know a version of "angel of the morning" that I dont find on youtube. it' s Rita remington's version...

then, I found this one and it's better! =)

  • Chrissie looks and sings amazing. She's about 45 years old in this video. She was born in 1951, and interestingly enough she skipped all the hippie 60's and 70's music style. She was there at Kent State University during the infamous killing of a student by the national guard. She also left the country and spent time in europe to return with her unique style of music. Long live the Pretenders.

  • i was watching this episode this morning. god, i love friends

  • I vote terrible just because of the whole Friends thing. Friends SUCKS!!!!

  • @TheDamnnation666 yea i never watched that show never knew chrissie was on it but she looks good and sounds good on this

  • Dont understand how one can refer to one "first loved " conceptually ,real love is forever ! the sequence of lovers betrays sincerity !

  • Friends had a lot of good songs throughout its run

  • @sov6rulz

    agreed

  • still lovin you rachel!

  • Need to add I was the was the first man she ever loved ! ( all fantasy being included )

  • yes, this is my favourite version too:X

  • this makes me cry.

  • @bluecrushce2 ,,, i am screaming so hard i pee in my pants, i love this so much

  • anyone know what chords shes playing?

  • This song is always touching. Chrissie does it a lot of justice. beautiful voice and a beautiful woman

  • This song is alway touching. Chrissie does it a lot of justice. beautiful voice and a beautiful woman

  • this is the first place i heard this song, i just love it because of Chrissie

  • i love you chrissie...always have, always will

  • 0 dislikes....i love it

  • @athletestar18 . its because all votes have been by chicks or gay dudes. (i am the exception). don't worry, sooner than later someone will click disklike just because of your comment, not because they actually dislike it.

  • Hey Chrissie!! How much did you get for your soul?

  • @YTUserDan . around 100k

  • I just watched this episode right now!!.........for like the 200th time. Wow I SAY 200th time but by now I think it literally might be the 200th time. Anyways she sings it really good.

  • @BigRashDog She sings it really WELL. Sigh... Americans!

  • Thank you for posting Chrissie! She's amazing!

    Thank you so much,

    Debby

  • i want this song soooo baddd

  • never seen the long version of this scene thx

  • @sweetchocolate3342 I think they did that for either copyright reasons, or to just cut back on the time.

  • You know, i first heard this song in Friends BUT...it was just the chorus not the whole song...then Rachel just goes outside ans sits with Phoebe. This is the first time i get to listen to the whole song. Amazing

  • Неповторимо..

  • I swear I was holding my tears when I watched the show.. Stephanie (Chrissie) was a new professional singers in Central Perk Coffee House. She was replacing Phoebe who used to be singing in the cafe.

Rachel as Phoebe best friend, who was a waitress in the cafe, tried her best to make her boss keep Phoebe.

The moment Rachel stared Phoebe outside the window, who was counting the money she earned from street-performing, was actually break my heart.

  • @seamusfinnigan2000 I know!

  • This is a lovely version.

  • lol i didn't know she was the pretenders singer :L

  • yes she is from the pretenders, the song was released in 1966.I think the Merrilee Rush version was the first release

  • pretty sure that she didn't wright this song for anyone. I'm pretty sure that she didn't wright it at all.

  • Grat song and performance, but I still preffer "Smelly cat, smelly cat is not your faul" by Phoebe Buffay XD

  • @ devillsh2010: look for Chip Taylor, he wrote it.

  • @sweetchocolate3342 I noticed that too, and then I asked my dad about that and he told me to look at the bottom of the case. "Now with footage you've never seen."

  • @sweetchocolate3342 that is because they cut out some stuff for the length of the show on tv, plus they want to act like its EXTRA FOOTAGE(not cut-out footage) so you will buy the dvd, if you watch for example the first episode of friends ever(the pilot), they have alot of cut outs, i just saw it the other day

  • this song is in Friends(Lasted 10 seasons), the episode where pheobe gets a replacement singer for the coffee house, and this is also in Joey(The continuation of friends(kinda) that Joey from friends made, lasted for 2 seasons), on the episode The Book Club in the first season, where Micheal likes a girl named Jane, and joey kinda interrupts it, and sings the chorus of this song

  • can anyone send me the lyrics pls ?

    i can't found it

  • It's not as that good. Very restrained for TV you must admit. Juice Newtons version much better.

  • Chrissies voice is just so very sweet, I love her

  • can't avoid the high notes in this one....loses too much energy.

  • To sing for them is to cast pearls before swine.

  • Chrissie lacks the vocal range necessary to really pull this song off. Listen to Merilee Rush's version and you'll see what I mean.

  • @tripleJ1955 as i do not agree with you, i see that it needs a little more power, but otherwise it is very good

  • wow , i lowe this thing...

  • this song is in the friends soundtrack

  • It is the best. Chrissy is the best. Sexy, talented, amazing. What ca I say.

  • K, it is a very beautiful version, but... Tv show or not I don't think its very respectful to claim you wrote a song that everyone knows you didn't. Mind you there is a cut in the vid between her saying that and the song starting but either way kinda seems a little wrong if you ask me.

  • @Nexus079

It's a TV show, there is nothing really true about it. That's why they're all called actors. When everyone knows, like you mentioned, I don't see any harm in that. It just fits the story of this episode. Just a beautiful version!

  • tinyurl (dot) angelofthemorning enjoy :)

  • wonderful song

  • i wna download this song with her voice where could i get it?

  • with youtoube downloader ?? (:

  • Friends <3

    Chrissie Hynde <3

     Perfect combination ( Can't spell )

    Thanks for the post!

  • did linda ronstadt do a cover of this?

  • I was searching for this song for so long. Thanks a ton for posting this video. Awesome show...Awesome Song.

  • I don't remember her singing the complete song during the episode... Was my version shortened?! *anger and frustration*

She has this really great voice that makes you feel the emotion of the song. Great cover!

  • @Ielwen

I thought that they've been showing the whole song in the episode...

Is she the singer of the Pretenders?

  • @MrZiam yes, she is

  • She is. But in my version, it's only parts of the song, wich is interrupted by Rachel going out of the cafe to bring Pheobe a cup of coffe and their talking...

  • Chrissie - your voice melts my being and I think you will be my soulmate in some future existance! - hopefully!

  • ,,,Chrissie is a wonderful woman, and would love to meet her one day...

  • Brava !!!!

  • adorable.... chrissie hynde's voice is beautiful and no matter how many years go by friends will always be one of my favorite television shows

  • my bf dedicated this song to me and its so beautiful!!! To bad he lives 4hrs away!!!

:(:( this is a beautiful song!!! thx babe!

  • unfinished short version ..sorry not good enough must try harder!

  • Love the song and thanks for the post, but...

you say in your comment that Friends is the most adorable and immortal TV show of all time?

You need to watch some more TV, my friend.

  • everyone's entitled to their opinion. personally, i love friends but i get that not everybody does

  • yes this is my best version of angel too!

  • This is very cool! What episode was this? What year... if anyone knows?

  • 2 season, episode 6 - The one with the baby on the bus.

    One of my favorites

  • BIG thanks!

  • @riviswim season 2 episode 06 "the one with the baby in the bus" i think is the correct title!

  • it's something about her voice, unique and really nice.

  • Swesome song... she did a great remake of this song. the orginal is good to... but chrissy adds something to it... whatever it is, it is awesome...

  • very good job sir 5 stars

  • Strange comment, I know buuut....

very well done on the cutting! It's a remarkable job you've managed - if I hadn't read the side box, I wouldn't have know!

  • Truely the sexeist voice ever - wonderful

  • i love you darling

  • Chrissie always has so much soul. Wears it on her sleeve. Love ya baby.
