Huge, Newks was great too, his backhand return is whaooo, sort of Jimmy's one, his talk is greta too, even if Jimmy should have one this, or could, at least.
WOW thanks for posting this. I have never seen any of this match. Jimmy had a great '75, but couldn't close the deal in the final of any of the slams.
Jimmy could've been a human backboard if he wanted. But he was under orders to smack the ball flat and drive it any chance he got. I would die while rooting for him because of the thousands of balls he'd drive into the net's top tape.
A great one he is, and came from Belleville, Illinois close to St. Louis of all places, basically a semi slum of a town, but he was a child of wealth and had coaches and practice courts and was a well traveled Jr Player like Lendl and MacEnroe.
beauty newc! if there was ever proof needed you can compare tennis players across generations, this is newcombe at the end of his career beating connors in his prime
One thing he did was power his serve but he mixed his strokes with spins and didn't try to overpower him. Newcombe doesn't get enough credit for his touch.
woo hoo the gemini prevails. but i think jimmy has a double maybe even multiple personalities ha ha

Still wonder how could Jimmy miss the easy lob and bh passing shot on set point.
Anyway, Newks was great too and the end of the match is worth staying.
