Had a kid once come in when I worked at target and bought a prepaid cell phone with a bag of silver halfs that his grandma used to give him for xmas. I mean like the 90% silver or whatever ones I only had $10 on me so I bought 10 I look back and wish I could have bought them all there were about 54 and about 35 were high silver.
I can believe it ! You just have to be there at the right time ! Most tellers in my area are Indian woman !! Was told that I just missed 12 older dollars from the twenties once !
how could a normal bank teller even know how many silver dols. there were in the bank she worked in. and why nowdays would any bank teller have any SILVER DOLS, IN HER DRAWER? somthing fishey about this video.
@DigginAmerica because this vid is too good to beleive. bank tellers dont have this quick of responce to get to the vault. and none at all in their drawer. think about it. this video must be a fake.
In 1971 and after, the only 40% silver Eisenhower coins that were made were for collector sets, or proof and uncirculated sets. They were not made for general circulation. The ones you have are probably the copper/nickel clad ones.... not worth much more than a dollar.
I love metal detecting and I mentioned that to a cashier at a bank and she gave me a large handful of forien coins she had collected in her drawer! Cool! Like your video!
@americancoinhunting You know what I thought was odd. Back in the late 90's I used to go to the casino in Kinder LA. The slot machines were still coin operated at that time and the 0.50 cent machines were actual 0.50 cent US Coins! Same for the $1 machines. The hoppers were full of these and not the Tokens. I wish I would have taken my winnings in the Coins instead of cashing them in!
Just unreal to get that lucky in finding those silver Peace and Morgan Silver Dollars. With the current silver market, it'll be very hard to find those floating around!
All the Ikes '71 to '78 are all nickel/copper clad, if they're P & D mint. '71 & '72 proofs are 40% silver clad and have the S mint mark, '73 through '76 S mint marks have both nickel clad & 40% silver clad varieties, '77 & '78 S mint mark proofs are only copper/nickel clad - no silver. Consult the Red Book if you're in doubt.
nothing cool like this ever happens to me. If i go to banks asking about coins they look at me like I have three heads. Once just recently i asked the teller for $10 in rolled pennies and he said.... "why?". And then only had $4 in rolled pennies and said he couldnt get anymore.. haha what a joke. But awesome find I would have been shaking too....
this reminds me of something silmilar that happened to me back in the 1970's when I pack of cigarettes was 75 cents,,I worked a full service gas station and every sngle solitary day for what had to be 2 months a man stopped in and bough a pack of cigarettes and paid everyday with silver coins,,Im not kidding and usually it was 3 silver quaters and a silver dime and then a old lady came in several times where my wife worked and bought cigaretes and paid with morgan dollars,,,but its very rare now
Thanks for watching & commenting lanceoa ..I not only watched your video..But looked at todays silver melt /+ collectors value...And gave you those numbers in a comment on your video.
its not a once in a lifetime find...i did the same thing several times with my largest find was in 2010 as well....80 benjamin half dollars from the 50's. Its out there....go get'm!
I just watched your video here, is it wrong to look at a pile of coins and start to drool all over myself? Lol!! Wow, I may just have to give this technique a try!! Con-freakin-grats!!
man, if i found that stuff metal detecting my life would be complete. That is absolutely amazing that you got this. Your lucky she didn't know what they were either!
$34 for the coins but you had to get to these banks what did you drive to do this? How many banks do you go to and get skunked? What is the cost for you to get these coins and return them? Now I want to say that if you go to fuel economydot G use their fuel cost calculator to compare your ride vs 2010 prius you will see that over 20K miles you will have saved about $32K and not have had to waiste time pumping an additional 7K gallons. I can get ~$32K 10 yrs never leave home. Sad but True?
@cdltpx With that said awesome score truly a once in a lifetime score. Most of these tellers are wise enough to know the value of these coins and they will save these for themselves. Savor the flavor because they are getting wise to this. Go to that fueleconomy website you will be shocked the funds you can have in your pocket by driving an efficient auto. I am considering getting a tuk tuk style truck so I can use it to not only save on fuel but mostly so I can prevent paying $400yr insurance.
That is an amazing find! I kinda did good today. I went to a local coin shop and wanted to buy $100 worth of silver 90% coins. He calculated that would be 3.85 face value (34.56 silver spot today). I just told him Id take a mix of everything. When I got home I was looking at them and they gave me" 8 liberty/franklin half dollars 5 silver quarters 5 mercury dimes 1 1909 barber dime.
Ended up getting 5.85 total. I think he may have counted some half dollars as quarters or something?
@Elementamos .......First watch and listen to what I said in the video...It's really easy...Go to a bank (Not where you normally bank but a different name bank)....Ask for half dollars, and big coin dollars...Pay for them,& take them home & search threw them....Buy as many as you can...Search them for a stray silver coin the bank has not picked thre...Do it over & over & over again...Turn the non-silver coins in to your bank ...Do not ask for coins from your bank...Only other banks...Good Luck

I am so surprised that the tellers you went to had any silver coin at all. When I was a teller I grabbed every white metal coin I saw. The Hunt Bros. were driving silver up at the time so I sold like $700 40% silver half $ and got like $1100-1200. I also sold my Ben Franklin's which I regretted since. I used to go to Sanders Coin on Pulaski years ago.
boy am i jealous. my girlfriend works at a bank and ive been having her bring home the halves and ikes she gets in now.. only a few have been silvers but at least im getting a jump on it now before they are all stored away. awesome find
Out of $210 in halves I got from my bank, I got 9 40% silver. Just the other day got a 1945-s war nickle (35% silver) from a gas station. It's still out there.
You don't care for the newer dollars? Treasure hunters should be the #1 backers of the new dollar coins. If they're in circulation then they're going to be dropped and found by treasure hunters.
In Canada ($1 and $2 coins in circulation whoo!) we regularly come back from hunts with $15-$20 in clad.
Found a bank that actually had halves in stock. Got about $700 in halves, Saw that they had been machine rolled and some of the coins were marked by previous hunters. Didn't expect to get anything, but I found 16 40% Kennedy halves by the time I got to the end of it. Coinflation puts each coin at $6 melt value for a total of $96.
AWESOME FIND!!! Do you know how hard it is to find real silver dollars for face anymore? You hit the jackpot. Even just at melt, you paid thirty bucks for over eight hundred dollars worth of Silver.
Most of the banks in my area usually have circulated Kennedy half dollars. The first time I got a roll, I scored a 1967 40% silver. Most are 1971 or later. I didn't realize *any* bank would have silver dollars. I guess I'll ask next time. Great score on your part - very exciting find.
@WavyGravyTrain1 some banks in my are will grab them if the coin machine sorts them out because of the weight. They grade and sell them fairly reasonably at the counter. Some banks, like the one my wife works at, don't realize unless the coin is old is valuable. She has the tellers sell her all coins that the sorter drops. Then I get to treasure hunt from my couch. Lots of dimes and quarters- 3 quarter rolls and 5 dime rolls since 2008. Happy hunting- remember which banks you get silver at
Thats a great story!! A long time ago I used to go to different banks and buy rolls(sometimes whole boxes) of half dollars. I found quite a few 40% silver and even some 90% mixed in,it was fun. But that was over 20yrs ago.
About 6yrs ago I went to a go-go bar and got a silver quarter back as change. I kept asking the barmaid for change,I wound up with almost a whole roll of 90% silver, lol. They must have gotten it from the bank when they got quarters for the bar. Weird things DO happen!
Very nicely done! You can't do anything like that here in the UK.
My own collection is mostly roman & medieval hammered silver but I've got to say that 18th & 19th century US coins are some of the most attractive ever struck. I think I might start a new collection!
I was about to say how can it be possible that those peace dollars are in the bank, but I guess I know, because of the economy people breaking open their money jars and going to the bank, some of those money jars are quite old
Back after an entire day of searching lol, and I scored nothing after say 14 banks? I think most of my county is picked clean :( but I'm sure there's still a cache somewhere just gotta find it.
@NushiboNinja ..I know what you're saying....My last $5.000 in halves came up a bust....Not even a 40% silver out of the bunch ! ! !......Now days...It seems like mostly LUCK.....But They're still out there...Sigh....That's what Treasure Hunting is all about !!!...The Hit & Miss.....Good Luck Man ! ! !
I learned something that made me sad lol, those eisenhowers are not 40% silver unless you can prove it by properly weighing them, went on a hunt after your vid scored about 13 eisenhowers, couple kennedys and thought yes! 13 eisenhowers score, 40% In the bag, but sadly they were not because after weighing them they were 22.5 grams ish which is copper nickel circulated ones and silver weighs 24.8 ish. So just a heads up to you new hunters like me who's going to be bringing a scale now hahaha sco
nice! I'm new to the videos but I'm starting to make them.could you tell me what banks do you go to? are they out of the way little towns or what? I'd like to try it.
I've heard of people having great luck at old country banks..But since I live in the city,I personally wouldn't know much about that...Look up online, the largest banks in your area...Chase,Bank of America are a few....Ask for half dollars. That will give you better odds of finding a silver coin..I also ask if they have any 'Big Ole dollar coins' The ones that wont fit threw thier new coin counters. Occasionally you can get lucky & find a morgan or Peace dollar..I admit..I got extreemly lucky !
Great stuff man!! How would I go about asking the bank? Do I call them up and ask "do you have any old dollar coins" , what should I be asking for? Thank you
@MrMonermoner ...Ask just the way I said in the video & avoid asking for silver dollars LOL....Just ask if they have any 'Big Ole' Dollars...They won't fit in thier newer coin counters.
Omg that's sick, now thanks to you I'm going coin hunting in my area if I score I'll be sure to post a reply and those 6 haters have another hater haha
I had to come back to tell you I gave you a thumbs up on my first visit and I am back to give you another to help cover the other knuckle heads thumbs down.
..........I have ...In the recent past............Got lucky enough to find one or two silver halves....some Quarters....or on a rare occasion,a silver dollar ,at a bank in the last 12-20 years....But nothing this extrordinary & all at once ,or at one time ! !..........Thanks for asking....rackley98052
My husband is extremely jealous. He had no idea you could walk into banks and just ask if they have old silver coins. I'm pretty sure I know what he's gonna start doing once he has the money, lol!
@minecraftbug Even if you trade them because they are silver that doesn't mean they will be melted down. Most dealers I know that pay for silver and gold are also numismatists. They are worth more as coinage.
@k9slayer Bank tellers are a bit like the McDonald's workers of the financial world.
I have met a few tellers that told me they look through coins for silver ones, usually because some customer told them about it. It's kind of sad, imo, because these people just go to coin shops and sell em for fiat.
I think You did a great job! I always tell people to ask for halves and large sized dollar coins. Great stuff does show up more often than people might think! Congratulations,
Great reminder that whenever I go to the bank I need to REMEMBER to ask for halves and large dollar coins! They never seem to have any, but a Circle K employee once showed me that someone had paid for $7 of gas with large silver dollars, and she asked me if I thought they were worth anything- they were ALL PRE-1930 SILVER! Sweet :-)
@luminosity2083 ....Not very often...It's a rare occurance & a crap shoot...Take your chances....It's free money when you can get silver for face value !
Wow!! Now that's what I call lucky. Congratulations on your good fortune. We can't do this in the UK today, since our coins aren't worth anything, quite unlike during the 1960s when I used to go coin hunting myself. Here's hoping it happens again for you. Good health and good hunting.
Wow. I would like to purchase one silver dollar from you just for my keep sack. Can I buy one from you. ? I'm in Australia.

What city do you live in? These banks just have silver dollars laying around and nobody knows their actual value? That's crazy.

I'm jealous
source69 6 months ago
Most of the banks in my area usually have circulated Kennedy half dollars. The first time I got a roll, I scored a 1967 40% silver. Most are 1971 or later. I didn't realize *any* bank would have silver dollars. I guess I'll ask next time. Great score on your part - very exciting find.

ur lucky im 14 i biked to atleast 8 different banks i only got 4 half dollars all late 70 i biked 17 miles

Are you saying if I go to banks and ask for half and full dollar coins they will sell them to me no matter what the date or condition at face value?
WavyGravyTrain1 6 months ago
@WavyGravyTrain1 some banks in my are will grab them if the coin machine sorts them out because of the weight. They grade and sell them fairly reasonably at the counter. Some banks, like the one my wife works at, don't realize unless the coin is old is valuable. She has the tellers sell her all coins that the sorter drops. Then I get to treasure hunt from my couch. Lots of dimes and quarters- 3 quarter rolls and 5 dime rolls since 2008. Happy hunting- remember which banks you get silver at
atcaleb 6 months ago
@atcaleb AND don't tell them why you want them or they will beat you to it. I also got 3 silver halfs and no whole dollars. Only clad dollars
atcaleb 6 months ago
@atcaleb TY for the info, I do appreciate the reply.

Weird things DO happen!
illymozar 6 months ago
Very nicely done! You can't do anything like that here in the UK.
My own collection is mostly roman & medieval hammered silver but I've got to say that 18th & 19th century US coins are some of the most attractive ever struck. I think I might start a new collection!

I was about to say how can it be possible that those peace dollars are in the bank, but I guess I know, because of the economy people breaking open their money jars and going to the bank, some of those money jars are quite old

AmericanCoinHunting 7 months ago
Great stuff man!! How would I go about asking the bank? Do I call them up and ask "do you have any old dollar coins" , what should I be asking for? Thank you
MrMonermoner 7 months ago
@MrMonermoner ...Ask just the way I said in the video & avoid asking for silver dollars LOL....Just ask if they have any 'Big Ole' Dollars...They won't fit in thier newer coin counters.

No fair because history will be gone. Saving them and then selling for silver and melted down then it is gone.
minecraftbug 7 months ago
@minecraftbug .......Who said I would sell them ?...They are still in my collection, and will be handed down to my Great Nephew.
AmericanCoinHunting 7 months ago
@minecraftbug Even if you trade them because they are silver that doesn't mean they will be melted down. Most dealers I know that pay for silver and gold are also numismatists. They are worth more as coinage.

great to see someone ripping off the banks. just shows they dont know the difference between real money and fiat money. god bless ye.
k9slayer 8 months ago
@k9slayer Bank tellers are a bit like the McDonald's workers of the financial world.
I have met a few tellers that told me they look through coins for silver ones, usually because some customer told them about it. It's kind of sad, imo, because these people just go to coin shops and sell em for fiat.
David12King 8 months ago
I think You did a great job! I always tell people to ask for halves and large sized dollar coins. Great stuff does show up more often than people might think! Congratulations,
Found In Rolls!
lotsabirds 8 months ago
Great reminder that whenever I go to the bank I need to REMEMBER to ask for halves and large dollar coins! They never seem to have any, but a Circle K employee once showed me that someone had paid for $7 of gas with large silver dollars, and she asked me if I thought they were worth anything- they were ALL PRE-1930 SILVER! Sweet :-)

So, how often do the banks have coins with silver content? Even if it's just one or two.
luminosity2083 8 months ago
@luminosity2083 ....Not very often...It's a rare occurance & a crap shoot...Take your chances....It's free money when you can get silver for face value !
AmericanCoinHunting 8 months ago
Wow!! Now that's what I call lucky. Congratulations on your good fortune. We can't do this in the UK today, since our coins aren't worth anything, quite unlike during the 1960s when I used to go coin hunting myself. Here's hoping it happens again for you. Good health and good hunting.
