Can't say I know why but there's a way to restring which gives you like 7-8" of excess string from the tuning peg which isn't used. Weird he did it for just the D.
Maybe his D snapped before the show and this was a quick fix...?? Nonetheless this is an incredible piece.
for anyone who cares... his linus and lucy is now available... I cannot think of a more masterful arrangement for guitar from the original... an absolute tour de force!! just thought someone may be interested
He is totally an amazing guitar player and is you want a challenge try and figure out any of his songs, hah! I've finally learned to play the best parts of "Freelin'" after a long time *ahem* (with the help of tabs of course.)
This is the only song I've heard by him except Snowflight, and I love that song, so I decided to check out his other pieces, turns out, they're lovely too! Love the way he truly feels what he's playing.
Are you referring to the Hauser Sessions? I got the mp3 download of it off his web site. Also available are CD's, downloads and sheet music for much of his works.
Andrew's compositions are very mono no aware, an emotion Japan has a long history of recognizing and enjoying. There isn't a parallel in the west really.
I've always thought Andrew York had the best ear for contemporary composition out of the (now former) members of LAGQ. Beautiful song, and he makes the difficult look effortless.
I must agree with John. I saw Maestro York live tonight at Baruch College in NYC. He played this piece early in the 1st set. General admission. I showed up early in 8 degree weather, got the front row, center. Experience of my life!
Haha, i was there too! I'm from the Madison guitar class that arrived there. That night was actually my birthday lol. York gave an amazing performance, i'd gladly see him again. Letting Go was by far the best song of the night.
As a former student of Andy's at Whittier College, I can tell you that he's not only a phenominal musician but a class act, stand-up guy. He spent time helping students with music theory homework who weren't even guitar students! I'm glad to see he's still doing what he loves. Miss you around Whittier Andy!
The Master of Modern Guitar, So underrated its a sin!!!! He not only plays faultlessly and beautifully from the heart but also is the one of the greatest composers for the guitar alive today and maybe even of the 1900 century. Thank you Andrew with all my heart!! John
