I attended the New Year's Eve/Day Crater Fest 75/76 while stationed at Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Air Station. I was just looking at the lineup & remembered most of them. Somehow forgot Seals & Crofts, but there was America, BTO, Cheech & Chong, Billy Preston, Herbie Hancock, Sly Stone, Tower Of Power, Country Joe & The Fish,Melissa Manchester & Jesse Colin Young, among others. And LOTS of weed......Ahh...It's starting to come back to me now...
Thanks for sharing. As kids we used to sneak into that festival by climbing the crater rim. I saw one of my first shows there in '77 with Journey, Styx, and Alvin Bishop!
@BeenInACaveWayToLong I too was at the Crater Festival that year with Santana and a better show I have never seen pretty much...we snuck in by climbing up the face of Diamond Head with a bunch of "heads" and walking down the spiral staircase that leads up from the crater to the lookout points from World War 2. Most people do not know it is there. Quite an experience. Aloha !
@clyde8her So great to hear from a fellow past "head". I too scaled the side of the crater that day...barefoot...but didn't we all go barefoot in those days? I remember quite a few people moving in and out of the crater through the route you took. I've been in those caves/lookouts many times. Once I found a holster for a US Army 45 inside.
In Honolulu, Hawaii. As a matter of fact I was there also, I was 8 years old, and hanging out there all by myself.... Does anyone remember the band Detective?
I was at this show, and the one the following
year that Earth Wind And Fire played. I wish a DVD would be released. Thanks for posting!
