I almost fell out of my chair when I 1st heard Ms. Houston sing this song. What an amazing voice, and such power! When I 1st heard Charice sing this, I couldn't believe my ears. I almost fell out of my chair when I 1st heard Ms. Houston sing this song. What an amazing voice, and such power! When I 1st heard Charice sing this, I couldn't believe my ears. Charice has a different voice, but the musicality and power that Ms. Houston dispalyed were both there in Charice's performance. I am amazed by both performers, perhaps a bit more by Charice because of her age.

Bottom line of it is, is that they are both amazing singers and lovely people. But Whitney sounds better, obviously the charice clips have better recording which gives her an advantage, but regardless, Whitney sounds better.

Whitney's drug addiction isn't the only reason for vocal decline, the main is age and forever performing. Whitney never took a break and just sung for 20 years in a row, ofcourse that's going to damage your vocals.
Look at Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, they also can't sing half as good anymore, it's not drugs, it's age and constant performing. However it is hard to recognise their vocal decline because they mime pre-recorded vocals, whereas Whitney sings live in the moment!

@SarcasticScorpion transition? take a look at 0:29 - 0:30 and compare it with 1:11 - 1:12 ; 0:43 - 0:44 and 1:24 - 1:25; 0:49 - 0:50 and 1:30 - 1:31. then think again. whitney didn't catch her breath in between transitions, it was charice. perhaps you don't have any idea what the word transition means. her live improvisations are not awful, these were the one which made whitney a legend. if you let charice perform those improvisations, she can't, cuz it's a little bit uneasy for her.

Whitney has more professional training and experience while Charice is just starting. Whitney is from the West while Charice is from Asia. Though it is near impossible for an Asian to conquer Hollywood and international music world, both Whitney and Charice did so. Whitney is The Voice while Charice is The Big Voice. Of course, I love them both. It is like the future meets the past. My vote goes to WH though since I prefer high-end orchestra sound system rather than low-end studio audio system.

Whitney was 30 when she first sang this song. Charice was 15 (more or less) when she first sang the song. Whitney exerts almost no effort in singing this song. The young ones should be the ones who could sing this song effortlessly because they still have a higher voice than the older ones. But seeing this video, my vote goes to Whitney.
