i found the same kinda bird outside when i was walking my dog...i got a friend to help me pick it up because i didnt want it to get eaten by a cat. we made posters for a found bird and no one has come forth to claim it. i dont know what to do, never had a bird..its been a day now and if i try to touch her cage it hisses at me and tries to bite my finger...i think its a mean bird. but i want to bond with it too...dont know what to do...?

hi, if you didn't bond with it already, try going near its cage daily and talk to it, it needs fresh water DAILY and proper food not random food :) if its a cockatiel buy cockatiel food, if its a canary buy canary food, also, let it get used to you voice, then let it get used to you changing its food / water. after it calms down near you, wear gardening gloves, *or some sort of glove that wont hurt you if it bites* and try putting your finger in its cage every day (Pt.1,theres pt2)

*here's pt2* when it gets used to your hand, try picking it up by rubbing your hand on its chest and it will loose balance and step onto your finger. when ever it goes on your finger and steps up give it a treat and it will soon realize that your finger is something GOOD.

after it gets onto your finger comfortably try getting it out of the cage daily :)

@exotic7485 she is just scared. she might be a wild bird. i found a wild cockatiel and she will tolerate by touch but never quite as friendly as my others. feed him/her. it's a bonding experience. get him/her toys. and very very important: speak to your bird in a soothing voice. if i don't greet my bird when i come into the room she gets very upset. be patient. it takes a while to bond with some birds. pick up a bird book too if you are serious about keeping her. get her checked at the avianvet

@exotic7485 Aww :) You'll need ALOT of patience, but it's worth it. You should really bring the bird to a vet for a health check (birds can carry deseases, usually eazy enough to treat) and proper diet info.

I adopted a ~10 years old cockatiel and it took months before he would go out of his cage on his own to get on my hand. I found alot of useful tips from a guy nicknamed Michael. Just google ''How to Teach Parrot to Step Up and to Come Out of Cage'' it should be on top.

@lillysunnie They have canary bath attachments at pet stores. It's just a little thing, but it's enough for the canary to bathe when it want to. Just fill it with water and leave it in the cage for a bit and the canary will go in eventually. They like to bathe! At least, mine did. You can sometimes tell if it needs a bath cause it'll try to bathe in it's water dish (cockatiels will sometimes do the same).
