mkSNAKEninja: Post your uncle's version...would love to hear/see it. This version lacks the passion that is supposed to come through from the last verse, John just let it die. Seems like he was kind of in one of his pissy moods.
My uncle sang this song and my brother recorded it. I wish John Melencamp would hear how he did it and emulate it. All he had was a guitar. Less is more sometimes.
How in the world was this left off the cd made from this show???best tune of the night! The break where they slow it down(3 minute mark?) and jam a little is my favorite minute of JMC history. I lost the old VHS tape with it, but I used to play this song anytime I needed a mood pick up. Acoustic slide tone is amazing Only wish they let him play a little more!
Incredible lyrics, musical composition and sheer talent. I appreciate the diversity of the musicians and instruments. Pure Genius! Looking forward to seeing you in Pgh in October!
would have been better with Larry Crane in the mix

Pity this song was never a hit. There's a lot of wisdom in the lyrics.
