This is very pretty sounding... Adam has a great voice, but why is that that, to me, when singers try to recreate classics it always sounds a little too jingly? This cover feels too much like Christmas morning. I think singers today, doing this, they try way too hard. (Not blaming them for it. They are stepping into tremendously big shoes.) It's just that when Sinatra sang it, he was just so damn cool about it, and it worked.

@G0tM1Ik Neither did the wonderful Billie...that high honour goes to Mr Fred Astaire, the man who introduced more 'new' standards to the American Songbook than any other singer. This song was written by Jerome Kern for the Astaire/Rogers film Swing Time in 1936, and the guy absolutely nailed it...as always. In fact in the 20's and 30's for both stage and screen Berlin, Gershwin, Porter and the like, all wrote songs purely so Fred can sing them. He was known as the songwriters singer!

I don't know that I agree with everything Adam Levine said. I don't think he just "stuck with the plan" at all. I mean, look at Fred Astaire's version of The Way You Look Tonight and Frank's version. They're polar opposites! I think he did change up the melodies quite a lot, actually. And he might have been somewhat understated in his singing, but it could also be sort of big and dramatic and emotional (April in Paris off the Come Fly With Me album?!). That's what Sinatra was good at, emotion.

I think Adam were more meant to say that, compared to Frank's flamboyant and excessive lifestyle, his way to sing was surprisingly alienated from orpels and not necessary flauntings or display of vocal unrequested essay of technique (which he could easily put in). All that actually empowers, as you say, the emotional and emotioning, deep deliver of a song. If you think at Frank's life antics, that opinion of Adam actually makes full sense. ;)
