I don't think world population is a myth, but there's one thing they don't tell you: it is highly concentrated on Northern India and Bangladesh, ad of course Northeast China, but that you've already known. Except for this places, in all the other high populated centers the population is showing reduction in its growing rate, and in some places it's negative.
