As someone who rides a bike, one immediately realizes that it's faster than walkers, rollerbladers, or people with dogs. One has to pass them at some point. People act so unpredictably that it's often difficult to avoid them, they jump, or move directly into your line of travel. There's little space on the shoulder, it's either get hit by a car or hit them. It's equivalent to passing someone on the highway and the car you pass changes into your lane and hits you. The biker is right. Sorry folks.

Actually, bikes do not always have the right of way. I cannot blow through stop signs or ride my bike in the lane cars travel in. I cannot use left turn lanes. It is not the car's fault if I swerve into it and hit it. It's mine.

My way: To avoid spooking them, stay silent and just pass them, unless they're emulating a sine wave.

My state traffic law: pedestrian move against traffic skates/skates boards. Bikes are considered vehicles and move with traffic. There is also the basic speed law. @thecastman97, When I was a young adult I was riding 10-speed down street. I thought I would scare a kid by yelling from behind. Problem was his reflex was to move to curb, As I did. We collided. He was correct to dive for safety of sidewalk.
Ridding bike, I look over right shoulder.
She made the mistake of instinctive moving to the center of the road, when she heard something behind her. If the video is correct, that she looked over her left shoulder, then her body was turned left.

As someone who rides a bike, one immediately realizes that it's faster than walkers, rollerbladers, or people with dogs. One has to pass them at some point. People act so unpredictably that it's often difficult to avoid them, they jump, or move directly into your line of travel. There's little space on the shoulder, it's either get hit by a car or hit them. It's equivalent to passing someone on the highway and the car you pass changes into your lane and hits you. The biker is right. Sorry folks.

Actually, bikes do not always have the right of way. I cannot blow through stop signs or ride my bike in the lane cars travel in. I cannot use left turn lanes. It is not the car's fault if I swerve into it and hit it. It's mine.
It's very telling that she said, "I moved to the center of the road." Big mistake. If anyone gets passed, it's always on the left, directly where she was moving to.

It's not ridiculous... it's exactly the same principle - a slower moving object being passed by a faster moving object. One passes on the left, the other moves left into the other's line of travel. Whose fault is it? If it's the passer, what could have been done to avoid it? If you think it's the passer, I'm going to wait for you to go by in a vehicle and move in front of you, then sue you.
My way: To avoid spooking them, stay silent and just pass them, unless they're emulating a sine wave.

Apparently you haven't spent much time on a bike avoiding people. What if they move left? What if they move right? What if they move left and right? What if I can't stop in time? We don't know ahead of time where they'll move to. If the kid is that inept at street skills, she shouldn't have been out there. Just because she's 11 and inexperienced, doesn't make it the biker's fault.
We have a reasonable expectation to not be harmed by someone no matter their intent or experience. Sorry.

In my 20,000+ miles road biking it is ALWAYS the same - someone getting spooked, turning their head to see, which causes their whole body to change direction into your path. Anyone who's been on a bike 1/4 as much as I have can attest to this.
"Avoid accountability" are the wrong words... It most likely wasn't his fault, and it needn't be avoided. If some knucklehead injured me, or wrecked my 5k bike, I'd sue for damages too.

My state traffic law: pedestrian move against traffic skates/skates boards. Bikes are considered vehicles and move with traffic. There is also the basic speed law. That is you can not operate at a speed that is not safe. Like over taking a kid in the street on skates. If you cause an accident with a vehicle that is reckless driving.
