Has anyone here actually listened to Ultimate? Several tracks have new mixes that I've never heard anywhere before, and I have all four Disco cd's, all of their remastered Further Listening series, and the two disc Alternative. Heart, Suburbia, and Go West all sound very similar to previous releases, but a keen ear is going to hear the differences. That alone, I think, makes this album at least worth a download, if not purchasing (as I will be this Tuesday, not out yet here in Canada).
@Kelli69 I also have all their releases...you're right about sound, because they're all remastered version (in official PSB web site you can read more)
@NastyChrisVideo Like I said, I own all of the remastered versions (the Further Listening series, two-disc sets for each album), and some of these mixes are either a) brand new mixes or b) long lost single mixes. The linear notes are terrible and give no indication as to where the mixes in question actually come from.
@Kelli69 I've read that Suburbia and Heart (for example) are 2010 version...probably a brand new mix....I'm a PSB fan since 1985 and I've got all their discography: Ultimate songs are little bit differents
In my opinion a weak track, may need to hear it a few more times to see if it's a grower. Like a lot of other people have stated, another greatest hits CD is unneccessary; there are only 3 new tracks on this compilation, PopArt was more of an 'ultimate' compilation. Adding in the second dvd disc of live performances is the only saving grace but, I suspect this 3rd hits collection will only be for the die-hards fans . I can't see this being a big hit, I predict no. 48. I hope I'm proved wrong!
Strange, just heard the FULL SONG on FB but I guess it's not up on YT yet...it wasn't too bad, the teaser was pretty reminiscient of the whole song actually. It was OK in my opinion, but PSB will always be a fave of mine regardless! :)
I am a psb fan from the start and this sounds shit really getting pissed off with this swedish house maffia synth sound, fucking hell psbs its not like you need the cash.Still love you anyway.
i think this song, its a grower and sticks in your head, and if psb kept doing what they did in the late 80's and 90's they wouldnt have lasted 25years because it would all just be the same!! the biggest problem is it wont get any air play on the big radio stations, i see no reason why galaxy couldnt play this or radio 1, i guess they have nothing to prove and hope they keep making music for their fans, u dont sell in excess of 60million albums if your crap :)

Amazing!!!! I love this few seconds of the new song. It's true that's difficult judging a song for this few time available, but, trust me, I love Pet Shop Boys for a long time and it seems to be great!
What are you talking about, ItsGrimUpNorth7? Both Love Comes Quickly and Opportunites are represented on disc 2 of the album. The album looks to me like a pretty complete representation of the best of PSB. Looking forward to it!
@jpanzel1 ... What am i talking about ?? Absolute has only 19 hit or miss songs.. Opportunities (whistle test) Love comes quickly (TOTP) are on the DVD... The new song will be their 43rd single, so how can you say Ultimate is a complete representation (CD 19 SONGS).. Where as Pop Art released 7 years ago has 38 songs and is their best compilation by far.. Ultimate was supposed to be released when they won the Outstanding award at the Brits.. Its a rip off.. That's what iam talking about !!!

The 19 CD tracks are not Ultimate PSB.. It's a con to coincide with the yet again final show at Hammersmith in London..And was originally to be released after the Brits last year... It's called riding the gravy train and will do well to make the top 10.... The Future release B sides album will be the real deal.. Ultimate is a rip off by EMI

The DVD makes it worthwhile for the diehards, and for the casual it's a pretty impressive resume of their whole career. You're joking, they are going to be lucky to get into the top 40 with the digital release.
Such a strange choice to release the digital download this sunday yet the 2 CD physical release 5 weeks later.
PSB need both the digital downloads AND the 2/3 CD releases to scrape into the top 20 these days due to music sales being dominated by teens downloading from itunes etc.
That demographic are not going to buy PSB because they are not young and cool.

Love etc was top 20... and the album Yes made number 4 without online sales and i tunes not being added to single sales due to a muck up at EMI and it wasn't onsale in certain shops on 1st days of release so it should have been number 1 in the UK.. If young ppl dont buy PSB records why did love etc, did you see me coming top the US dance charts last year.. Thats 10 number 1s on the American billboard dance chart and its harder to crack America.. Every PSB single has made top 4O!

200 CD's does that include vinyl ? I have been a fan since i bought West end girlsfrom Littlewoods for 79p !!. First seen them live on MCMLXXXIX tour in 1989 and been to 8 live performances so iam a die hard fan aswell.. I have West end girls 12inch Yellow label, opportunities pre release/in the night.. Bobcat labels and many many more..

@paultoghill It's still good to have this album to introduce people new to PSB... I only became a die-hard fan after sitting down and listening to PopArt as I was too young to enjoy most of their singles when they were new. Besides, I like being able to hear Left To My Own Devices, Heart, Domino Dancing, and Love etc on one cd in my car.
@paultoghill ...Totally agree mate.. It was meant to be released when they won the outstanding contribution/ life time achievement award last year.. I know someone who works in the record business.. Neil and chtis agreed at the time.. but this is purely EMI's decision... it is a rip off but on the flip slip.. after their ballet thing.. they are releasing a b side album with possible tour in a year or two.. should be worth the wait !!!!

@paultoghill .. Yeah i know mate, ive got Alternative but it only gives the b sides until 1995... There is a new one happening sometime soon with the b sides from 1995 until present.... Totally agree EMI ripped us fans off... its getting like the band the Who!! They release a best of every year with an added track !! Didnt think PSB would go down that road !!

@Edutaker. no es mucha la diferencia en las posiciones de uk, con Erasure, PSB apenas tiene 3 N1, si tuvieran mas de 10 N1, AHY TE CREO, Y Erasure tiene 1 N1 PERO 3 CANCIONES N2 asi q no es mucha la diferencia. y 5 albunes n 1 en reino unido , y las ventas no tiene nada q ver , depende del sello que los avala, porque si fuera asi, los bactriboys, son mejores que PSB, YA QUE BACTRIBOYS HAN VENDIDOS 130 MILLONES DE ALBUNES
@estevi28 Incurres en varios errores. Primero: PSB no tiene 3 Nº1 en UK, tiene 4 (WEG, Heart, Always on my mind e It's a Sin) y en USA Dance Billboard tiene 10. Y segundo... el que se puso a hablar acerca del tema de las ventas y albumes Nº1 fuiste tu y no yo... yo solo te rebatí tu comentario. Ahora bien, como DJs tienen otra serie de Nº1 mas (Yoko Ono, Madonna, The Killers, etc) y como colaboradores siempre son solicitados por grandes artistas. Eso demuestra su vigencia que tanto niegas.
@estevi28 pet shop boys y erasure, no tienen punto de comparacion, pet shop boys son grandes musicos que han compuesto para otros grandes artistas, en sus letras hay gran profundidad, no te dejes llevas por que hacen musica electronica, tambien han creado grandes melodias, solo revisa la banda sonora para la pelicula Battleship Potemkin un clasico del cine, compuesta en su plenitud por Pet Shop Boys, Para resumir PSB está a años luz de Erasure y Depeche Mode.
@MAURIPSB PSB are my fav artists but I can recognise that Lennon-McCartney are on another level and above all comapring this track to the Beatles catalogue.

@Edutaker. y Erasure ha conseguido colocar 5 albunes consecutivos Nº1 en el Reino Unido, cosa que PSB no tiene, asi que no se puede decir que PSB, son mejores compositivamente. ademas no soy fans de Erasure, soy fans de Depeche Mode, y sigo a Erasure por Vince Clarke, el fundador de depeche Mode
@estevi28 Que pobres tus argumentos. Es cosa de revisar a PSB en los charts y fijarse que Erasure y PSB no tienen comparación. Tambien toma en cuenta que ya ni siquiera los singles de Erasure rankean a excepción de "Breathe" que coincidió con la noticia de VIH de Bell.
En relacion con tus comparaciones de los ultimos años de los albumes de PSB y Erasure, es bastante sesgada como fans. Hasta la critica especializada ha destrozado a Erasure, no asi a PSB. Lo siento.
@estevi28 Por si te interesa, aqui te dejo un link con las posiciones en los Charts de PSB en UK y USA. Con Yes, PSB obtuvo 2 Numeros 1 en el Billboard. Por si te das cuenta, los boys casi doblan en ventas a Erasure y le sacan una ventaja enorme con respecto a los singles.
En cuanto al reconocimiento y colaboración con otros artistas, ni hablar... mejor no comentes para no dejar mal a tus chicos de Erasure o DM juntos.
@Edutaker, je men. estas en un error, compositivamente PSB eran algo buenos hasta el album, very , hace 17 años, desde ahy han hecho puros albunes malos y aburridos. como bilingual, nightlife., release, fundamental. yes, .en cambio ERASURE, no se puede decir lo mismo, sus 2 ultimos trajabos has sido buenos, como el "nigthbird" y no tan solo el single, "breathe", tambien. "dont say you love me", "lie to me" "sweet " surrender". ademas PSB, puros instruementos . Erasure mas SYNTH
Can we have an album produced solely be neil and chris. I don't want other peoples' versions of their music - i want their creativity undiluted.
OK - maybe a couple of songs in collaboration to give them some variety from simply each other. But what I would love is an album that is mostly their own. Bilingual.
Maybe their growing reputation will give them the confidence to do that. I understand bringing new people in can give some freshness - maybe there's a balancing act.
No.....Bilingual was more authentic I think. Release sort of passed me by and I didn't even buy it but it produced some good songs didn't it?
I think that release seemed to be from almost a different band.....it didn't sound like them. Fundamental was too corporate and grey for me - although still a great album. Yes was good but the remixes on the special edition were a shocking disgrace to be honest. Zero effort on the yes remixes - bland and I felt a bit ripped off to be honest.
Love the sound...definitely going to be another magnificent song by the boys.....I only wish they received airplay here in Australia for new releases...it's a damn right travesty that they don't.

@estevi28 En realidad si viniste a comentar a un video de PSB en contra de ellos a favor de Erasure, demuestra por si solo la pobreza musical en la cual se encuentra tu duo estancado hace mas de 10 años. Puede que Bell tenga una gran voz, pero compositivamente, PSB les saca una ventaja años luz. De hecho, creo que la ultima cancion buena de Erasure fue "Breathe" de Nightbird y eso!.... No me imagino a Erasure haciendo un ballet o algo tan majestuoso como el Potemkin.

Together is amazing. All you PSB fans living in the past need to get with the program. This sounds exactly how a single promoting a greatest hits should sound. Of course PSB are the only group who would still attempt to sound contemporary twenty-five years on; that's why they're the greatest pop group since The Beatles.
First radio play with the Bruce. Radio 2. Friday 22nd October. No word on whether the boys will be playing Popmaster.
@royramaker I think many people know when a song is good or not, just by listening fragments (that's what you can hear from iTunes and eMusic before deciding to buy it, for example). Sometimes we make mistakes, because we're human, but I also think that, in this case, we can think a song is bad, but if we here it again, maybe it's beautiful. I don't think the same happens with the opposite.
@royramaker I listened to PSB's Yes preview (with more than 10 songs in 8 minutes or so) and I loved the album. Didn't like "Building a Wall" and "Legacy" at first sight, but listening to the whole album (that I bought listening just to the preview), I started to like it. And I already liked the other 8 (or so) songs (Love etc, Beautiful people, All over the world, Pandemonium, Vulnerable, More than a dream, King of Rome, The way it used to be) at first sight.
Está bueno el sonido... Es verdad lo que dicen por ahí, es muy parecido a lo que hicieron en Yes... massive massive massive fan, sounds good however I'm sadly getting rather bored of pure synth-pop. Being a hardcore synth-musician myself I can't deny for one second that you are brilliant at that sort of music however I'm more for the violin, moody, my october symphony sorta stuff from you guys. looking for a new fresh take much different to Yes for the new album in a year or so hopefully :) sounds great regardless so well done.
Actually sounds very pop according to the current pop scene. Let's see how it does widely and if they do what they know, something like the first "West End Girls" release will happen. I men, re-record the thing in a very PSB way!
The musical equivilent of magnolia coloured wallpaper. I've been a fan since the beginning and disappointingly it feels as though they gave up on the Pet Shop Boys before I did. Just sounds like their going through motions to promote another Greatest Hits album. The only potentially good thing about this release is the B side. "After The Event" was their best song in years and was hidden behind one of their most generic singles. This has often been the case - i'd prefer "Alternative part 2".

You're joking, they are going to be lucky to get into the top 40 with the digital release.
Such a strange choice to release the digital download this sunday yet the 2 CD physical release 5 weeks later.
PSB need both the digital downloads AND the 2/3 CD releases to scrape into the top 20 these days due to music sales being dominated by teens downloading from itunes etc.
That demographic are not going to buy PSB because they are not young and cool.

Love etc was top 20... and the album Yes made number 4 without online sales and i tunes not being added to single sales due to a muck up at EMI and it wasn't onsale in certain shops on 1st days of release so it should have been number 1 in the UK.. If young ppl dont buy PSB records why did love etc, did you see me coming top the US dance charts last year.. Thats 10 number 1s on the American billboard dance chart and its harder to crack America.. Every PSB single has made top 4O!

Alas, I fear the digital only release will not make the top 40 and the fact it doesnt appear in the midweek chart only goes to enforce my opinion.
It does however have a chance to chart when the 2 CDs are available at the end of November but it's likely to be for 1 week.
I say this as a PSB fan who currently has over 200 of their CDs, soon to which together x 2 will be added.
It's just the way it is because of endless reality show singles and their endless (over) promotion.

200 CD's does that include vinyl ? I have been a fan since i bought West end girlsfrom Littlewoods for 79p !!. First seen them live on MCMLXXXIX tour in 1989 and been to 8 live performances so iam a die hard fan aswell.. I have West end girls 12inch Yellow label, opportunities pre release/in the night.. Bobcat labels and many many more..

go to bbc.co.uk then select radio then radio 2 then ken bruce show then fast forward about 95 minutes,wait and you will hear Neil and Chris in conversation and then the single:) I love it. A bit of A GROWER like Love etc.

@erikdonoso, no encuentro la necesidad del porque discutir estupideces de 2 bandas buenas como PSB Y ERASURE, yo sigo las 2 bandas, PSB sera algo superior a Erasure, sin embargo, la voz de Neil Tennant, queda reducida a la extraordinaria. voz de Andy Bell.
en resumen cada banda tiene lo suyo,
en vez de discuitr ,hay que valorar estos grupos, ya que ultimamente se escucha pura musica de MI. en las radios.

Totally agree, PSB boys were built on songs like Love comes quickly and Opportunities etc which are not on it.. imagine someone in a record shop looks and thinks PSB ultimate will be laden with classics.. Then they get hit with Se a vida e, New york city boy, and even more strange before wtf.. It won't get them any new fans.. Miracles good song, but not ultimate psb ! people wont know half the songs.. very unlike the PSB to ride the gravy train.. The b side album is what we want!

Therefore only West End girls, Left to my own devices, and Being boring make the cut from PopArt's Art disc. Ultimate is their out-and-out *pop* greatest hits album.

@paultoghill It's still good to have this album to introduce people new to PSB... I only became a die-hard fan after sitting down and listening to PopArt as I was too young to enjoy most of their singles when they were new. Besides, I like being able to hear Left To My Own Devices, Heart, Domino Dancing, and Love etc on one cd in my car.

@paultoghill ...Totally agree mate.. It was meant to be released when they won the outstanding contribution/ life time achievement award last year.. I know someone who works in the record business.. Neil and chtis agreed at the time.. but this is purely EMI's decision... it is a rip off but on the flip slip.. after their ballet thing.. they are releasing a b side album with possible tour in a year or two.. should be worth the wait !!!!

@paultoghill .. Yeah i know mate, ive got Alternative but it only gives the b sides until 1995... There is a new one happening sometime soon with the b sides from 1995 until present.... Totally agree EMI ripped us fans off... its getting like the band the Who!! They release a best of every year with an added track !! Didnt think PSB would go down that road !!

@Edutaker. no es mucha la diferencia en las posiciones de uk, con Erasure, PSB apenas tiene 3 N1, si tuvieran mas de 10 N1, AHY TE CREO, Y Erasure tiene 1 N1 PERO 3 CANCIONES N2 asi q no es mucha la diferencia. y 5 albunes n 1 en reino unido , y las ventas no tiene nada q ver , depende del sello que los avala, porque si fuera asi, los bactriboys, son mejores que PSB, YA QUE BACTRIBOYS HAN VENDIDOS 130 MILLONES DE ALBUNES

@estevi28 Incurres en varios errores. Primero: PSB no tiene 3 Nº1 en UK, tiene 4 (WEG, Heart, Always on my mind e It's a Sin) y en USA Dance Billboard tiene 10. Y segundo... el que se puso a hablar acerca del tema de las ventas y albumes Nº1 fuiste tu y no yo... yo solo te rebatí tu comentario. Ahora bien, como DJs tienen otra serie de Nº1 mas (Yoko Ono, Madonna, The Killers, etc) y como colaboradores siempre son solicitados por grandes artistas. Eso demuestra su vigencia que tanto niegas.

@estevi28 pet shop boys y erasure, no tienen punto de comparacion, pet shop boys son grandes musicos que han compuesto para otros grandes artistas, en sus letras hay gran profundidad, no te dejes llevas por que hacen musica electronica, tambien han creado grandes melodias, solo revisa la banda sonora para la pelicula Battleship Potemkin un clasico del cine, compuesta en su plenitud por Pet Shop Boys, Para resumir PSB está a años luz de Erasure y Depeche Mode.

@estevi28 Que pobres tus argumentos. Es cosa de revisar a PSB en los charts y fijarse que Erasure y PSB no tienen comparación. Tambien toma en cuenta que ya ni siquiera los singles de Erasure rankean a excepción de "Breathe" que coincidió con la noticia de VIH de Bell.
En relacion con tus comparaciones de los ultimos años de los albumes de PSB y Erasure, es bastante sesgada como fans. Hasta la critica especializada ha destrozado a Erasure, no asi a PSB. Lo siento.

@estevi28 Por si te interesa, aqui te dejo un link con las posiciones en los Charts de PSB en UK y USA. Con Yes, PSB obtuvo 2 Numeros 1 en el Billboard. Por si te das cuenta, los boys casi doblan en ventas a Erasure y le sacan una ventaja enorme con respecto a los singles.
En cuanto al reconocimiento y colaboración con otros artistas, ni hablar... mejor no comentes para no dejar mal a tus chicos de Erasure o DM juntos.

@Edutaker, je men. estas en un error, compositivamente PSB eran algo buenos hasta el album, very , hace 17 años, desde ahy han hecho puros albunes malos y aburridos. como bilingual, nightlife., release, fundamental. yes, .en cambio ERASURE, no se puede decir lo mismo, sus 2 ultimos trajabos has sido buenos, como el "nigthbird" y no tan solo el single, "breathe", tambien. "dont say you love me", "lie to me" "sweet " surrender". ademas PSB, puros instruementos . Erasure mas SYNTH

Can we have an album produced solely be neil and chris. I don't want other peoples' versions of their music - i want their creativity undiluted.
OK - maybe a couple of songs in collaboration to give them some variety from simply each other. But what I would love is an album that is mostly their own. Bilingual.
Maybe their growing reputation will give them the confidence to do that. I understand bringing new people in can give some freshness - maybe there's a balancing act.

No.....Bilingual was more authentic I think. Release sort of passed me by and I didn't even buy it but it produced some good songs didn't it?
I think that release seemed to be from almost a different band.....it didn't sound like them. Fundamental was too corporate and grey for me - although still a great album. Yes was good but the remixes on the special edition were a shocking disgrace to be honest. Zero effort on the yes remixes - bland and I felt a bit ripped off to be honest.

We are pleased to announce that "Together", the brand new PSB track, will be available on iTunes as a one-track download from October 24th, two days after its first radio play on BBC Radio 2. It will be automatically set up on iTunes as a "Complete My Album" track/mechanic for those who go on to buy the "Ultimate" album when it is released a week later. The CD singles and digital bundles of "Together" will be released on November 29th as previously announced.

@estevi28 En realidad si viniste a comentar a un video de PSB en contra de ellos a favor de Erasure, demuestra por si solo la pobreza musical en la cual se encuentra tu duo estancado hace mas de 10 años. Puede que Bell tenga una gran voz, pero compositivamente, PSB les saca una ventaja años luz. De hecho, creo que la ultima cancion buena de Erasure fue "Breathe" de Nightbird y eso!.... No me imagino a Erasure haciendo un ballet o algo tan majestuoso como el Potemkin.

Together is amazing. All you PSB fans living in the past need to get with the program. This sounds exactly how a single promoting a greatest hits should sound. Of course PSB are the only group who would still attempt to sound contemporary twenty-five years on; that's why they're the greatest pop group since The Beatles.
First radio play with the Bruce. Radio 2. Friday 22nd October. No word on whether the boys will be playing Popmaster.

@royramaker I think many people know when a song is good or not, just by listening fragments (that's what you can hear from iTunes and eMusic before deciding to buy it, for example). Sometimes we make mistakes, because we're human, but I also think that, in this case, we can think a song is bad, but if we here it again, maybe it's beautiful. I don't think the same happens with the opposite.

@royramaker I listened to PSB's Yes preview (with more than 10 songs in 8 minutes or so) and I loved the album. Didn't like "Building a Wall" and "Legacy" at first sight, but listening to the whole album (that I bought listening just to the preview), I started to like it. And I already liked the other 8 (or so) songs (Love etc, Beautiful people, All over the world, Pandemonium, Vulnerable, More than a dream, King of Rome, The way it used to be) at first sight.

massive massive massive fan, sounds good however I'm sadly getting rather bored of pure synth-pop. Being a hardcore synth-musician myself I can't deny for one second that you are brilliant at that sort of music however I'm more for the violin, moody, my october symphony sorta stuff from you guys. looking for a new fresh take much different to Yes for the new album in a year or so hopefully :) sounds great regardless so well done.

The musical equivilent of magnolia coloured wallpaper. I've been a fan since the beginning and disappointingly it feels as though they gave up on the Pet Shop Boys before I did. Just sounds like their going through motions to promote another Greatest Hits album. The only potentially good thing about this release is the B side. "After The Event" was their best song in years and was hidden behind one of their most generic singles. This has often been the case - i'd prefer "Alternative part 2".
