you are missing the point. the real issue is about the theology of Mary and its relationship to Mt. Athos. the same issue is being discussed in relation to women clergy and same-sex marriage. the Church affirms complementarianism - that there are ontological/essential differences between men and women. this isn't about "rights" or "temptations" but about the Church's self-understanding of femininity and masculinity.

The person who talks knows nothing about Athos and orthodox monks. There is a tradition that God's mother Mary went in Athos and she asked from her son to give her this place in order to be a place where people can offer their life to God and live there in exercise and praying. So, Athos is called "Garden of God's mother". This is the reason that women do not visit Athos.

They have chosen to offer themselves to Christ. All the Christian's life is a fight to defeat our passions. We all are sinners, but Holy Grace will save us if we love Him and follow his orders. Some people want to offer themselves to God and get rid of their passions completely.

If you're referring to the parable from the Bible, then, the King is God the Father, His Son is Christ, the guest without the wedding garment is the person that was not baptized in Christ, therefore he's not a part of the wedding, the wedding takes place when the Bridegroom-Christ meets His Bride-Church, this will be at the 2nd coming of Christ.

the parable is about "many are called, few are chosen", so many invitees were asked to come to the wedding but they found excuses, not everybody that says Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. Fasting and praying are the 2 wings that help you fly to heaven. The monks train to discipline their bodies thru prayer and fasting. They follow the Apostle's teaching: "pray without ceasing". We, humans, commit sins every minute without even knowing that we've sinned.

I thought you had good knowledge to teach. But i am sorry to say your ignorance is blinding you from reality. The monks in Athos devote their life to spiritual cleansing and getting closer to god as they possibly can. They come down from the mountain and visit people to teach and give guidance if they are called to do so by god.
I think you should educate yourself more about what they represent and why they do what they do. Do not confuse Orthodox Christianity to Western christian beliefs.

Gospel is by grace of our Father and I cannot give to them unless they are predestined. These Monks have devoted their life to meditation and there would be many seeking the meaning of His Word. That is what I want to share with them and not their prayers day and night as if God is Dumb. I believe that they have some original texts similar to the Gnostic Gospels. If they are not open minded, then they are not predestined.
Their system works and that is why they are NOT Yogis.
They base their belief on logic and they do not expose themselves detaching their spirit form their bodies. By letting yourself go into deep meditation you are opening yourself to being possessed by unwanted spirits. If a yogis is meditating and their neighbor is in trouble they will not break meditation to help. If a monk is in prayer and their neighbor is in danger they will stop prayer and help. Acts of selfishness leads to egotism.

The Virgin Mary, does not allow women to step foot on Mount Athos. Women who have broken the rule have been punished by Heaven. And the monks are free. They went to Mount Athos by their own choice. No one forced them to go. Mount Athos has produced many, many saints. Their system and monastic life works.

you are missing the point. the real issue is about the theology of Mary and its relationship to Mt. Athos. the same issue is being discussed in relation to women clergy and same-sex marriage. the Church affirms complementarianism - that there are ontological/essential differences between men and women. this isn't about "rights" or "temptations" but about the Church's self-understanding of femininity and masculinity.

@nijjhar1 yes, in terms of worth, value, and the ineffable image of God. however, the fact that St. Paul does uses the language of "male," "female," "Jew," "Gentile" seems to indicate that are differences. as to the question of why Churches have men priests only? the Ecumenical Councils decided that the complementarian view seems to fit best what the general purpose and aims of the Church as a whole. truth is always related to values and purposes of a community.

The person who talks knows nothing about Athos and orthodox monks. There is a tradition that God's mother Mary went in Athos and she asked from her son to give her this place in order to be a place where people can offer their life to God and live there in exercise and praying. So, Athos is called "Garden of God's mother". This is the reason that women do not visit Athos.

@ybulbu In addition, you have to concider that trying to fight aganist the temptations of the flesh and get free of them, the absence of the opposite sex is very helpfull. Another thing not concidered by the man who speaks in this video is that the monk get out of Athos in order to buy products and sell their handiworks or to extract saints' bones or holy icons to people who cannot go to Athos. People who haven't lived Orthodoxy can't understand many things.

They have chosen to offer themselves to Christ. All the Christian's life is a fight to defeat our passions. We all are sinners, but Holy Grace will save us if we love Him and follow his orders. Some people want to offer themselves to God and get rid of their passions completely.

watch Mount Athos 1-5 by (C14radioactiv), it explains their lifestyle...the place must be kept holy, monks don't want any distraction from women, or to take care of female animals, there are other monasteries to visit around the world if women want to. I have studied and practiced yoga, budhhism, evangelical Christianity and other systems but my eyes were truly opened when I realised the true Mystery of Christ. The Orthodox Church and Mount Athos are the custodians of that Mystery but it is a hard teaching to accept. To receive it one needs a more humble attitude.

If you're referring to the parable from the Bible, then, the King is God the Father, His Son is Christ, the guest without the wedding garment is the person that was not baptized in Christ, therefore he's not a part of the wedding, the wedding takes place when the Bridegroom-Christ meets His Bride-Church, this will be at the 2nd coming of Christ.

Ans Christ also said, Matthew 18:20'' For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them''
How is anybody going to learn anything from living alone?
Only the Christian who are very very experienced are capable of living as solitaries.
It is perilous to live alone. Do you think you can guide yourself?

Yes. What was the name of the Son, the name of the person thrown out of the wedding party and when the Marriage was solemnised please? Ask Monks to help you find the answers. I know the Parable well. Blind in spirit have no idea than to bog down in prayers. Why should I fast what sin have I committed and why should I pray what wrong have I done. Twice born people ponder over His Word and not waste time in Prayers.

the parable is about "many are called, few are chosen", so many invitees were asked to come to the wedding but they found excuses, not everybody that says Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. Fasting and praying are the 2 wings that help you fly to heaven. The monks train to discipline their bodies thru prayer and fasting. They follow the Apostle's teaching: "pray without ceasing". We, humans, commit sins every minute without even knowing that we've sinned.

@schimaMon3 In God we do not sin but blasphemy. This is the age of grace and not of works or fasting and prayer. This is the age of pondering or logical reasoning over His Word. These Monks are spiritually dead people.

I thought you had good knowledge to teach. But i am sorry to say your ignorance is blinding you from reality. The monks in Athos devote their life to spiritual cleansing and getting closer to god as they possibly can. They come down from the mountain and visit people to teach and give guidance if they are called to do so by god.
I think you should educate yourself more about what they represent and why they do what they do. Do not confuse Orthodox Christianity to Western christian beliefs.

If you can name 2 monks and just one miracle each one performed, THEN i will tell you what i learnt from these monks. It is easy for me to tell you what they teach us but if you don't know who they are and what they represent then we will end up debating. I do not debate. I like to tell direct people to the truth if they ask.
In regards to the women you seem to make it out that they disrespect women. This is not true. The women are respected as we should all respect our mothers.

I don't remember reading in the Bible that only men were baptized, and no women. It states that all the land or all the region around.....went out to him and were baptized, confessing their sins. John was the forerunner of Christ. Christ was and is the Light of the world.

For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones."...that's to let us know that God can do anything out of nothing, by saying that they are the children of Abraham didn't make them look good before God, they had to bear good fruits (do good works) and not rely on a prophet to save them from the wrath of God. Hi Brother,
Gospel is by grace of our Father and I cannot give to them unless they are predestined. These Monks have devoted their life to meditation and there would be many seeking the meaning of His Word. That is what I want to share with them and not their prayers day and night as if God is Dumb. I believe that they have some original texts similar to the Gnostic Gospels. If they are not open minded, then they are not predestined.

Apologist, their "system" doesn't work. If it was their system or their ascesis that works they would be yogis.
Christ works and gives his gifts freely.
There is so much I could say Nijjhar, but it would be useless. You would have to experience Christ.

Their system works and that is why they are NOT Yogis.
They base their belief on logic and they do not expose themselves detaching their spirit form their bodies. By letting yourself go into deep meditation you are opening yourself to being possessed by unwanted spirits. If a yogis is meditating and their neighbor is in trouble they will not break meditation to help. If a monk is in prayer and their neighbor is in danger they will stop prayer and help. Acts of selfishness leads to egotism.

The Virgin Mary, does not allow women to step foot on Mount Athos. Women who have broken the rule have been punished by Heaven. And the monks are free. They went to Mount Athos by their own choice. No one forced them to go. Mount Athos has produced many, many saints. Their system and monastic life works.
