I bet he read the bible before ... then he skimmed through those books with extteme prejudice ... peace? Religion is anything but... hope you find it you sick redneck fuck!
I too have read all of those books and then some. It was the last one however that convinced me that theism is a ridiculous pursuit intelligently designed by immoral men to manipulate the gullible.
We call you ignorant because the exemplars (for lack of a better term) such as Ham, Hovind, etc., that are held up as the gold standard for Christians to follow, ARE ignorant, and wouldn't be caught dead actually READING those books for actual ideas instead of looking for a quote to mine.
Also, ya might want to do an audioswap on this one...
@atheistram I wouldnt go so far as to call him an outright liar, thats just I dont believe u cos i dont believe u sorta thinking (You know what we are trying to move away from).
If he owns those books, which looks like he does, if he says hes read them then i believe him.....i have no real reason not to.
Although i would like to hear him speak about this stuff, not as a test but more to my question in my original comment...How do u read sagan and retain a jebus belief? its beyond me
Christians are not ignorant, they just choose to believe in something they can't see, hear, smell, taste, or feel.
They believe when someone told them God is real and exist with absolutely no proof. That is not really ignorance, it is just shared wishful thinking.
Hey, I admit at one time in my life I truly found comfort in the idea of Gods, but then once I grew up I start to wonder why is that everything else can be proven, but when it comes to Gods it somehow require no proof?
Truth & wisdom...in a book about an evil tyrannical ghost-god? Is there wisdom in fearing the monster?
The wisdom I found in scripture is that u can get almost any1 to believe anything, if u use ultimate fear. We must also ignore that there's no evidence to support the bible's superstitious claims, deny that the moral authority violated his own most important moral laws. And don't consider that if a god was going to communicate with us via a book, we'd all certainly understand the same, etc etc.
Good stuff man, Im an atheist and its always good to see people reading about sagan and such. I dont personally think that all Xtians are idiots anymore than I believe all atheists just wanna sin. Unfortunately for you their is a bunch of people calling themselves Xtian claiming the world is ending, believing things on little or no evidence is a good thing, if you dnt think like us you are going to hell, etc.
hw do u read sagan nd still retain a believe the jebus storey? thats incredible
The world could certainly use more Christians who bother reading and thinking, if nothing else, for their own sakes. The charlatans and such in your midst love preying on the ignorant.
OK so your mind isn't empty. The interesting thing is if you run across a bucket that is empty you can fill it with anything you like. Shit for example.
Well, we both agree that my mind isn't empty...... but I'm a little concerned that you think finding empty buckets and filling them with shit is "interesting."
@Capn0bvious Somebody missed the point of my comment. Or rather understood it perfectly but like a good little christian decided to completely ignore it and make up his own.
@Capn0bvious As you can see, when you comprehend and you "know" you denounce everyone else who doesn't "Know" so it's an infinite loop of SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOUR WRONG. There isn't any reward because we won't even get there to comprehend, because the possibility we are just animals with a better brain is very likely, and our time will end while the universe will just keep going and going because there has to be something that is infinite, and infinite is incomprehensible. AND YOU KNOW THAT.
By looking at the top rated comments, it seems that some people don't know what their own beliefs say. Quantum Physics, Parallel Universes, and all that crud can bring you to a conclusion that technically, you don't even exist... It's all scientifically proven junk too. Find the exact location of an atom and you won't get it. lol... Makes perfect sense. And you say stuff like "2+2=5" is bogus... State how your own junk makes more sense first before saying that "2+2=5" is insanity. Good Luck =P
Ignorant men created religion and so far the only testament to its teachings are its ability to devide and create enough sadly justified anger to kill each other. Religion is nothing more than a disease spread from one ignorant man to an unknowing child. Eventually all religious books will be piled up in a museum and the caption will read. from this date to this date people believed this. It's then that the distant future will know how igrorant we currently are. Scooter
@Capn0bvious What does it matter what grammar we use? We simply speak different dialects of the same language. Yet, just like your religion, you will go and denounce others. This goes for athiests, christians, muslims alike, you have faith in those books, you have faith in what other's say. But really, it's simple as this, with faith set aside, we KNOW nothing, why? Because we are so small and vulnerable compared to everything around us, we don't stand a chance trying to comprehend it.
@Capn0bvious Because if we did comprehend it we would have mastered it by now and we would be flying around, immortal for ever. but no, instead we sit down here and argue with eachother, it's quite pathetic. We even kill eachother over the thought of how the universe works...Why does it matter? no other animal fights over it's "religious ethics". Why should we? Believe what you want to believe and don't bother others when they say they believe something different. I say this all sincerely :)
@OffspringFTW65 And if you look at the squirrels outside your house, they are pretty chill, they run up a fuckin tree, throw some nuts down, and go get some more, then maybe chase tail with another. Its simplistic because they haven't been given the brain power and thus the will to comprehend such an infinite thing. We have the brain power to comprehend, but we also have the brain power to make life easier, and keep it just as appealing as those squirrels. What happens when you comprehend anyway
This is going to sound like a put up. But you know what. I can understand exactly why someone can read all those books and have faith. Faith has NOTHING TO DO WITH FACTS, that is why it is FAITH. Many scientists quoted by Atheists (and I am one), were men of faith. I wish people would stop making it an argument about science, as it is plainly not, even darwin was a man of faith.
As long as people of faith do not impose their faith on others, I have no problem, same the other way.
Why exactly? Darwin was a devout christian and almost became a man of the cloth. Many of the leading scientists today believe in a supreme being, and can keep that seperation between their faith and science.
lol. i came here, saw a great video about being open minded enough to go through various viewpoints before making up your mind on the topic, checked the comments (as i always do) expecting to see the creator of the video being applauded for his open mindedness, only to be surprised (yet again) by people bashing someone who's done nothing wrong and everything right (as far as this video and its subject matter are concerned). again: lol.
I can't understand why people consider the Bible "God's book". It wasn't written by "God", it was written by scribes who thought they new the idealogies of "God" and took it upon themselves to make a book of them. I'm assuming they weren't the brightest as well, considering how many contradictions and how much hypocrisy there is within the Bible. For those open-minded Christians, I am sorry for you, because the ignorant ones are tarnishing Christianity's reputation...
self-defeating irony of the day: a video called "fun with stereotypes" that claims that i have "an empty mind" because i don't possess the "truth and wisdom" that you do from reading a book full of magic. and generalizes this to everyone who hasn't read this book of magic.
double points for irony: "fun with stereotypes" is placed beside "Christians are ignorant" in itself meant as irony; when this "stereotype" that "christians are ignorant" is only perpetuated by all of the above.
I don't think any of you understand how frustrating it is living in a country where someone else's beliefs are forced upon you. What if we told you that you should be tortured in fire for simply not agreeing with us? What if the money said "In No god We trust"? What if We said marriage should be defined as 1 Atheist and 1 Atheist? What if you were not aloud to have a certain job because of your beliefs?
Most Atheists assume those things because most of the time it is true. We assume that you believe the bible entirely if you claim that you are a christian, because the bible is supposed to be the infallable word of god. Even the New Testament claims that all of God's laws still apply. In Mark 7:6-9, Jesus scolds the Jews for not killing children who were disobedient to their parents. There are many Bible verses n the New Testament claimin that all of God's laws still stand true.
While I'm not entirely in full agreement with you, I do believe you make a valid point.
It's good to have an open mind, especially with beliefs. After all, if we all thought the same then this world would not benefit from creativity, imagination or anything that makes us unique.
You are obviously an intellignet person to be reading those sort of books. I assume that you actually believe everything in the bible (rather than just read it). How then do you justify your belief in all the old testament stories, such as the flood, the tower of babel, adam and eve etc, given that you claim to have read all those other books?
Thank you for posting this. I am an atheist. I go to church regularly. Most of my friends are Christians. I would be a much poorer human being if I utterly rejected others because I don't happen to share one aspect of belief. I find some atheists bigoted and irritating, so I choose to judge people for all of their qualities, not just one.
why do people believe that?? beacuse believing in god based on no evidence is ignoring logic and reasoning....and its possible and actually probable that if you refute logic like that in one area you do it in others as well.
My younger brother(7 years old) just learned how to read and technically he could read 'The Dragons Of Eden' by Sagan but he probably wouldn't understand it just like you didn't. You just plowed through them. I don't think anybody is judging you by the books you read but the opinions you are expressing so don't try to play martyr. PS. Donald Morgan said: "A thorough reading and understanding of the Bible is the surest path to atheism" :)
BTW - the difference between ALL those INTELLIGENT books and the last one you held up is that EVERY ONE OF THE FIRST BOOKS have been tried and tested and found true. They've been able to replicate the SCIENCE in them and when something is found in error - scientific theories adapt and change to account for the new knowledge. The Bible, on the other hand, only changes when a powerful ruler wants to get divorced and then they merely re-write the parts they don't like OUT.
2+2≠5. It doesn't now, it didn't way back when and tomorrow it won't either. No amount of praying or reading a book of lies will ever change the fact that 2+2≠5.
No, I do NOT have to have an open mind about this. I do NOT have to respect your belief or opinion if you DO believe that 2+2=5. If you do, then I do NOT respect you. You're insane. I pity you. I feel sorry for you. I think you need to be segregated away from normal people (especially children). You are dangerous to rational thought.
@rrdvrk I read your hateful diatribe about how you don't respect the opinions or beliefs of anyone who has a religion based on God. That's ok. We don't respect you either. You think you're so smart because you're an "intellectual atheist". [as if atheists invented science]. But you are not. The only thing you've proved is that you're arrogant...and wrong.
Hello. Greetings from Peru just to let you know your way of responding to "cool-i-beleieve-in-me" is just great. There is no way to disagree.
Read the bible and if you find what you are looking for it's ok.
Just wanted to say hi and praise the lord for what you've done.
And I was looking for atheist arguments! I just to be a Jesus-Freak myself until I had so much pain in my life I couldn't stand to believe i a God which allowed it but you know what? I am not who to say.

I think that if there weren't Christian groups that spent so much time sticking there noses into other people's business and opposing science, people wouldn't bother stereotyping them. Most people just want to live thier lives and be left alone, but there are certain groups of Christians who feel the need to be in people's faces and making life hard for people who don't share their beliefs, so we feel the need to fight back. (cont.)
I'm sorry, but while not all theists are stupid, the more ignorant someone is, the more religious they are likely to be and it's a bit hard not to think of the fundies who are young Earth creationists and think humans lived with dinosaurs as retarted if not out-right insane, and many of these people who claim that the bible is the word of god haven't even bothered to read it. How stupid do you have to be to think something is the word of a god and not bother to read it?
I agree that many who claim to be religious are ignorant. I also have found that the number of self-described atheists who are ignorant of many things tends to be in roughly the same range.
I don't personally believe the Bible is to be interpreted literally or that it is the infallible word of God. Having read the Bible many times, I'm confident in saying that the clearly Bible states many, many times that Jesus is the word of God and the only one with authority to speak for God.
I know that probably still sounds stupid to a non-believer but at least it gets rid of the notion of people riding dinosaurs.
From the 1st book of the Bible to the last, it's all about Jesus, his coming, his life, death, resurrection & eventual return. His words are a set of instructions on how to live & return to a perfect state of harmony with our creator.
I believe hell is simply the best concept that the human writers of the Bible could find to describe eternity without God.
@Capn0bvious Very astute. It irks me to hear some of my coworkers say it's 'god's word' when it really isn't. The bible was written by men, perhaps with inspiration from god or not. But then it was reinterpreted by different men and made to fit they way they saw the world around them. The same again and again until you have today's many versions.
Christianity has some good ideas and ways to form one's life...but it's also full of hate and war and bloodshed.
Your reading two sides of an argument then...doing nothing.I think it's great that you are open enough to read all those varying viewpoints but I think it sucks that you can't do anything with it besides absorb it.
Did you figure out a way to vote for Mccain and Obama? r
I have no choice but to assume what you believe cause you were too busy trumpeting your open mindedness to state it.
Since you appear to be disputing the opinion that Christians are ignorant I must assume that after reading all those books you are still a person a faith which I find suprising considering the points made in those books.
Given the fact that we, as individuals, have absolutely no idea what the majority of people that we meet every day believe... are you seriously claiming that the only reasonable thing to do is "assume" what those people believe?
Did the thought of asking for clarification of my beliefs ever enter into your mind?
Also, I would be very interested to hear exactly which of the points made in any of the books featured would preclude the existence of God. I don't recall reading any such claims.
@Capn0bvious The ONLY thing we need to know is that you believe in the Bible. Since the Bible is packed full of contradictions, lies, mistruths and evil (condoning slavery, sending bears to ravage children, stoning children, etc...), it's quite OK and LOGICAL to assume that if someone believes in the Bible, they must be insane or on a power-mad trip of greed and manipulation (i.e. televangelists). 2+2 does not equal 5.
@HubbaBubba768 Wow, you just made a bible reader/believer sound way smarter than you....
On the fence is where he, you and I belong. We are all 100% incapable of proving how it all began so we should not be making absolutist statements. I am anti-religion all the way but ignorance is ignorance...
Capn0bvious, atheists are not mocking YOU and assuming YOU are dumb but there are many, many religious idiots out there who refuse basic science because of faith, you can educate an atheist however...
Son, you've got like 50 videos of your ten year old interviewing a school board member. You are not the one to be talking about somebody looking retarded on YouTube.
Captain Oblivious---yes, I said a whole lot more than you ever have. Xians---can't burn 'em; can't crucify 'em anymore. Ahh, well . . . pass the popcorn and watch them do it to themselves----over and over and over and over . . . . one murdered braincell at a time.
Yeah.... see here's the thing Timmy, you're assuming that you were interesting enough during our first encounter that I might actually remember who you are... no such luck.
Now you've used up all of your free asshole minutes on this channel, so I'm going to have to unplug you from the Matrix and free up the bandwidth for someone who actually has something to say.
Don't feel bad... think of it as a game. We''ll call it "hide and go fuck yourself".
Didn't you say in your video on "God is not great - The Hitchens Challenge" that you are an atheist? Are you an atheist or arn't you? Youre not being very clear.
This clip makes a good point and in a way that is not arrogant or abusive. Kudos. I still can not believe in any one dogma over all others, but can respect respectful people. Peace.
You have a valid point, stereotypes are not helpful from either side of the discussion.
But I have read the bible, more than once, and am horrified by it. What is it that you found in there that convinced you that you should believe? Was a single bit of information or was it more? Either way, what convinced you to believe?
I actually grew up in the Catholic church, which pretty much turned me off to religion all together. It isn't because of the Bible that I believe but rather, in spite of it
A series of personal events involving what I would describe as "paranormal" activity led me to question the possibility of an afterlife, which extrapolated out into questions about the possibility of a creator.
I simply decided to ask God, if he existed, to reveal himself to me in whatever way he chose.
I can only say (without going into very great detail) that over the last 15 years or so God has given me more than enough reason to trust that he exists, to my own satisfaction.
The Bible is best understood (IMHO), when only the words which are written in red ink are read and reflected upon. Christianity is entirely based upon Jesus Christ being the only way to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
So-called Christians who ignore the teachings of Jesus in favor of Old Testament laws, which were never meant for non-Jews in the first place, are just one of many problems which plague Christianity today.
I am simply a Christian, I don't belong to the "Christian religion". I just follow the teachings of Jesus and do the things that he told us to do. I (literally) help feed the hungry and clothe the poor and visit the sick and imprisoned.
Well, like yourself I had been raised catholic, but by my early teens I knew that was an untenable philosophy for me. In my early 20's I figured out none of it made any sense and abandoned the lot.
From your writings, it sounds as if your belief/faith is based on personal experience(s) and that is certainly valid, perhaps the only valid reason to believe. Thanks for sharing and all the best to you and yours.
As I've pointed out numerous times on this thread, the only assertion I've made is that I found wisdom in the Bible, as well as in other books.... period.
How you choose to let your imagination run with that tiny scrap of opinion is entirely up to you.
In your case, you chose to speculate that I'm a "slave" and possibly a "fundamentalist" simply because I said that I found wisdom in the Bible.
That's not a very enlightened approach... and it's doubtful that it had much to do with "honesty".
I think I have a healthy amount of skepticism as well. The only statement I've made here is that I found wisdom in the Bible as well as in these other books. I don't think that's an unreasonable statement.... even an atheist could make it and not compromise his beliefs.
Here's a good quote for you. "The problem with keeping an open mind is that somebody is always coming around trying to put their crap in it."
I have a question.... How can you be a proud member of the Kamloops Band and at the same time not share the native spirituality that defines your, and indeed all, indigenous American peoples?
Not trying to be an ass or anything, but it's a bit like someone saying they are proud to come from a long line of KKK members.... but they don't believe in racism.
It's just a very dissonant statement that is hard to reconcile in the mind of anyone who knows native culture.
@Capn0bvious just because I am a proud member of a group does not mean that I have to follow their religious views. That was a dumb statement on your part because their is much more my culture than religion.
Perhaps you are confusing "race" with "culture". The only separation of traditional Kamloops culture and religion is in your mind. Every aspect of your traditional "culture" is defined by religion.
From the official Tk'emlups Band website:
Secwepemctsin Language of the Secwepemc
"Secwepemctsin contains the cultural, ecological, and historical knowledge which includes: values, SPIRITUAL BELIEFS, RITUALS, songs, stories, social and political structures and SPIRITUALITY of the people."
As the Secwepemc were given the land; they were also given a language. Language was given to the Secwepemc by the CREATOR for communication to the people and to the natural world."
Secwepemc Songs and Dances
"The songs, dances, stories, and CEREMONIES of the Secwepemc were, TRADITIONALLY, an INTEGRAL part of daily life; not separate as in many Western cultures. They were ABSOLUTELY VITAL in maintaining the values, SPIRITUAL BELIEFS, and teachings regarding care of the land and the people."
"The songs, dances, and CEREMONIES keep the Secwepemc tied to the land and they continually remind people of their responsibilities. "
"Secwepemc must sing and PRAY before harvesting any food, medicines, and other materials from the land. They must make an offering to thank THE CREATOR AND THE SPIRITS for anything they take."
"THE SECWEPEMC BELIEVE THAT ALL LIVING THINGS HAVE SPIRITS AND MUST BE SHOWN THE UTMOST RESPECT."
@Capn0bvious wow you really went all out on that one man. maybe i miss worded my older statement. I am not part of the religious aspects but I still mind the wisdom of my people, I care for the land yes, for the animals yes, I respect them as they provide for me. But I am not part of the religious aspects. I don't pray. I don't do the dances or songs. But I treat my environment with respect.
Not too many people can make a good video on the argument of Christianity but you certainly have.
As a Christian I prefer to look at the Bible as a guide rather than a literal interpretation or a history book. Christians in general seem to be too snooty about the word and Atheists take it too literally as if it were a science book.
I recommend reading 'The Great Divorce' for a sociological and philosophical approach.
I agree completely. Besides being the best selling book of all time, the Bible is probably the most misunderstood, misinterpreted and misused book of all time.
I am an atheist, and I am currently reading the Bible, just to see where Christians are coming from. I have to assume that you are doing the same thing, because if you believed anything in those books you showed us, then it would clash horribly with your beliefs.
Nope, doesn't clash at all. You have to understand that the Bible is metaphor, symbology, allegory and hidden esoteric meaning couched in simple, often ridiculous sounding language. The Bible itself says that it is a "paradox, a riddle and an enigma".
For a Christian, the only part of the Bible that truly has any relevance are the words in red, those spoken by Jesus Christ. The rest is over and done.
Read just the words in red if you want to see where a Christian should be coming from.
If only every Christian thought like that. I get really pissed off with people who take the Bible literally. Good on ya mate. Of course the result of treating the Bible as a metaphor is that we get tonnes of crazy interpretations, some of which have really stuck.
But just imagine if people took only the commandments of Jesus and nothing else. Feed the hungry, clothe the poor, visit the sick, treat everyone with love and compassion.........
Like I said, don't try to make sense of the whole Bible. It's supposed to filter down to the pure essence of what God wants for us. That essence is the example and words that Christ gave us to live by.
That's all a Christian is supposed to do and that's all I "believe in".
I would hope that those 'commandments' are fundamental human morals, not based on the Bible. I agree with all those things, but I don't believe them because Jesus was meant to have said them, I believe them because I think that those morals need to be in place to help the human race reach its full potential as a global community.
If those were fundamental human morals, our world would not be in the state that it's in.
Now, the question is this; do you merely "believe" in those principles or do you practice them every day of your life? Do you help feed the hungry? Do you volunteer at a homeless shelter or hospital? Is a regular part of your schedule devoted to service to others? Do you forgive your enemies and those who treat you spitefully?
I contend that those are not natural human morals that we are born with.
@Capn0bvious OF course if people actually followed only the word spoken by Jesus Chirst chirstainity today would be very diffrent. It would be nothing like how chirstainity is today
Whilst I don't know much about you, I respect your video. Well done - you certainly shocked me (but my frown turned into a smile within a few seconds). I'm an atheist, but I'm trying to become more well-versed and open-minded - mainly so I can have fair arguments and debunk theists with both logic and scripture, lol.
Thank you for your comments. I'm always glad to find an open-minded atheist.
It's not that hard to trip Christians up with scripture, because most of them have only a vague idea of what it even says, let alone what it all means.
The ones who know what it says mainly use it to rationalize their own prejudices. And the ones who know what it means are usually too busy doing what Jesus told them to do, to care about arguing with people over it.
If this webpage has a designer, who designed your brain? The fool has said There is no God (Psalm 14:1)
but I say unto you, that every one who shall say to his brother, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire. (Mat.5:22) who are my brethren? whosoever shall do the will of my Father in heaven, he is my brother (Mat.12:48-50) but the fool has said there is no God
Capn0bvious-presuming your show of books is not just 'show' and that you actually read such material, how can you justify a belief that the bible is the word of an invisible deity? Not being a wise ass to trying to start WW3 with you, just want to know how you can be methodical and rational one minute, then suspend it to swallow the blather of contradictions in the Bible
If you were to compile a history of scientific endeavor into one book, would you expect it to have no contradictions? Wouldn't you find early suppositions and assertions that were later proven to be completely incorrect by expanded knowledge and continual revelation of the true nature of things?
Likewise, do people automatically have even the vaguest understanding of the many complicated theorems and symbols of highly advanced mathematics upon first reading (or second or third or fourth)?
Would you think it is reasonable that someone should be able to read a physics textbook for the first time and understand it? Would they be correct if they simply declared it to be a meaningless bunch of gibberish and tossed it aside as worthless after only a cursory and superficial reading?
Or would you instead tell them that they need to pursue years of study and education in order for the complex symbology and confusing terminology to make sense and be applied properly?
Good illustration, but in the case of the Bible, since it supposed to be 'the word of god' (who is perfect, and without flaw), his instruction manual is the antithesis of that perfection. Yes, some the contradictions are minor, but many are major. How can any xtian justify a perfect god writing an imperfect book, with that god knowing full well the pain, and bloodshed that would ensue.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it is the word of God or was written by God. It's simply says "all scripture is inspired by God and is useful for learning and instruction in righteousness" II Timothy 3:16
That's it, "useful"..... not indispensable. "Inspired by God".... not "the perfect word of God".
You are just perpetuating myths started by Christians themselves to justify their misuse of the Bible.
OK, let's go further-for the purposes of this discussion, I'll assume we agree that god is flawless/perfect. Given that, and your previous statement of all scripture being 'inspired by god...', why would this perfect god allow continued errors from the inspiration process? He could very easily inspire the flawed writings to be corrected over time, resulting in a flawless book. Or at least one that wouldn't cause the needless (and known advance) deaths of millions of his beloved children.
@Capn0bvious "Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it is the word of God or was written by God. It's simply says "all scripture is inspired by God..." II Timothy 3:16"
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy NEVER came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."
Believe it all, OR start your own cult, by picking and choosing the verses you like...
Even understanding these complex formulas and equations, would you test them yourself? Would you strive to reproduce the results in your own lab, so that you can have the undeniable truth? Or would you simply believe it because it says so in the book?
Why would you look at one book any differently than the other? Why would you find it reasonable to expect years of study in order to understand one system and not the other? Why is it okay to dismiss one at first reading and not the other?
So that's my answer to your excellent question: I study both disciplines with equal respect and with the understanding that neither is a complete system which is without flaws, contradictions and vast gaps in knowledge.
I also know that as each system unfolds in continual revelation of the truth, there will be a great deal of previous belief and supposition that will be proven incorrect.
I am as willing to accept the misguided and antiquated beliefs of Christianity as I am those of science.
In our modern world? So you are comparing medical science to medicine over 2000 years ago? Jesus asked people why they marveled at things? You were there when Jesus said this? That's right; you have to reference an un-documented book called the "Bible" for your thoughtless answers. Keep your ignorant, thoughtless, brain-washed mind to yourself. One of these days the real truth will prevail and you my friend will wake up one morning with your thumb up your ass.
The bible is written by men, it's a story with no very little truth and a bunch of made up events with no evidence to support the majority of it. The bible is not a single book, but is a collection of stories chosen by the catholic church, while they rejected others. There are many stories of gods - non of them are real. Why should I believe that your story is different?
GAL 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
GAL 6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
christianity has bizarre things in it also...
like a person comeing back from the dead? If your going to judge science by what is logical and ilogical make sure you do the same on the bible. If you say that oh its not bizarre its god... what makes the bible the truth?
In our modern world, people are routinely brought back from the dead so I don't know why you would think it's such a bizarre concept.
In regards to the miracles he performed, Jesus asked people why they marveled at the things he did and told them that someday men would do the similar and even greater things. Lucky guess huh?
Bottom line, I don't care what you believe. You're welcome to believe what ever you want. What I find bizarre is why you care so much about what anyone else believes.
when i say brought back from the dead you know what i mean..... look that guys been dead for serveral hours due to of blood loss... no way hes going to be brought back to life
and why i care so much is becuase its hraming the progression of the man-kind... restricting rights of homosexuals, giving people reason for killing, giving people a reason for war, restricting scienetific research, opressing other man, giving people a predisposition to dislike another for their beliefs.
The vast majority of art, music, architecture, ancient & modern civilizations have been produced by religious minds. There are religious groups which support homosexual rights, condemn war and feed starving people.
Restricting scientific research?... Bullshit. Science seems to be doing just fine and, at the moment, represents a greater threat to our planet than all the religions put together.
And you don't seem to need religion to dislike me for my beliefs.
i understand that our history of many countries, includeing the US is founded behind religion. i can accept that. i can also accept that much of modern civilization has been the outcome of religious minds.
alot fo the money used to feed the hungry in africa through mother terrisa was never actually put forth to the starving, much was donated back to the church and never used for the correct purpose
ps: im just trying to have a debate for the hell of having one.. if this upsets you ill stop
this may be the most fuking gayest thing ive ever seen. if you read and believe the bible then you live an entirely differant lifestyle to non christians and it is confirmation that you are retarded enough to believe the most contradictory book in the world. in that quantam physics book i bet on one page it said one thing then didnt contradict itself on the other much unlike that last book you held up.
First, you are laboring under the stereotypes of mainstream Christianity and I don't belong to that group.
Second, I have quite a collection of science books that go back 100 years or more. The contradictions that exist in those books, some of which are only a few decades apart in their publication, are laughable if not outright bizarre. The Bible is likewise a collection of books written many years apart and subject to contradictions caused by continual revelation of the truth.
To be fair, you are incorrect sir or madam. Scientist have found that there is only two types of brains; the communistic type, with a counter individual unit displacer, and the evangelical, with an intelligence subverter.
Lol funnily enough I can do the exact same thing (actually not quite, don't have science as religion?).. but I have 3 bibles. King James, Good News and another that lost its cover that I think is a JW bible?
I'm an atheist btw. I figure what right do I have to argue against religion if I've never read it.
How do I put this.....fundamentalists are the only ones that could be right because the Bible states that the word of god is inerrant. If fundamentalists can prove there are no true inerrancies, then their religion succeeds. However, if you admit the bible has faults, you slowly slip into the Bible being a fairy tale full of fictitious stories.
OP is a redneck dunce for this "showing books with country music"

We call you ignorant because the exemplars (for lack of a better term) such as Ham, Hovind, etc., that are held up as the gold standard for Christians to follow, ARE ignorant, and wouldn't be caught dead actually READING those books for actual ideas instead of looking for a quote to mine.

Believe it or not, many atheists have read the bible, some have read it from cover to cover. I know MANY christians that can't say the same.
I don't think all christians are ignorant. Some are, (but then the same can be said of some atheists to be fair).

@atheistram I wouldnt go so far as to call him an outright liar, thats just I dont believe u cos i dont believe u sorta thinking (You know what we are trying to move away from).
If he owns those books, which looks like he does, if he says hes read them then i believe him.....i have no real reason not to.
Although i would like to hear him speak about this stuff, not as a test but more to my question in my original comment...How do u read sagan and retain a jebus belief? its beyond me
shandcunt 7 months ago

OffspringFTW65 7 months ago
@Capn0bvious Because if we did comprehend it we would have mastered it by now and we would be flying around, immortal for ever. but no, instead we sit down here and argue with eachother, it's quite pathetic. We even kill eachother over the thought of how the universe works...Why does it matter? no other animal fights over it's "religious ethics". Why should we? Believe what you want to believe and don't bother others when they say they believe something different. I say this all sincerely :)
OffspringFTW65 7 months ago

420ismyChristmas 1 year ago
self-defeating irony of the day: a video called "fun with stereotypes" that claims that i have "an empty mind" because i don't possess the "truth and wisdom" that you do from reading a book full of magic. and generalizes this to everyone who hasn't read this book of magic.
double points for irony: "fun with stereotypes" is placed beside "Christians are ignorant" in itself meant as irony; when this "stereotype" that "christians are ignorant" is only perpetuated by all of the above.

AtheismInExhile 1 year ago
Most Atheists assume those things because most of the time it is true. We assume that you believe the bible entirely if you claim that you are a christian, because the bible is supposed to be the infallable word of god. Even the New Testament claims that all of God's laws still apply. In Mark 7:6-9, Jesus scolds the Jews for not killing children who were disobedient to their parents. There are many Bible verses n the New Testament claimin that all of God's laws still stand true.
AtheismInExhile 1 year ago

I pity you. (cont.)
Primalxbeast 1 year ago
I'm sorry, but while not all theists are stupid, the more ignorant someone is, the more religious they are likely to be and it's a bit hard not to think of the fundies who are young Earth creationists and think humans lived with dinosaurs as retarted if not out-right insane, and many of these people who claim that the bible is the word of god haven't even bothered to read it. How stupid do you have to be to think something is the word of a god and not bother to read it?
Primalxbeast 1 year ago
I agree that many who claim to be religious are ignorant. I also have found that the number of self-described atheists who are ignorant of many things tends to be in roughly the same range.
I don't personally believe the Bible is to be interpreted literally or that it is the infallible word of God. Having read the Bible many times, I'm confident in saying that the clearly Bible states many, many times that Jesus is the word of God and the only one with authority to speak for God.
cont.
Capn0bvious 1 year ago
I know that probably still sounds stupid to a non-believer but at least it gets rid of the notion of people riding dinosaurs.
From the 1st book of the Bible to the last, it's all about Jesus, his coming, his life, death, resurrection & eventual return. His words are a set of instructions on how to live & return to a perfect state of harmony with our creator.
I believe hell is simply the best concept that the human writers of the Bible could find to describe eternity without God.
Peace.
Capn0bvious 1 year ago
@Capn0bvious Very astute. It irks me to hear some of my coworkers say it's 'god's word' when it really isn't. The bible was written by men, perhaps with inspiration from god or not. But then it was reinterpreted by different men and made to fit they way they saw the world around them. The same again and again until you have today's many versions.
Christianity has some good ideas and ways to form one's life...but it's also full of hate and war and bloodshed.

Since you appear to be disputing the opinion that Christians are ignorant I must assume that after reading all those books you are still a person a faith which I find suprising considering the points made in those books.
HubbaBubba768 1 year ago 2
Given the fact that we, as individuals, have absolutely no idea what the majority of people that we meet every day believe... are you seriously claiming that the only reasonable thing to do is "assume" what those people believe?
Did the thought of asking for clarification of my beliefs ever enter into your mind?
Also, I would be very interested to hear exactly which of the points made in any of the books featured would preclude the existence of God. I don't recall reading any such claims.
Capn0bvious 1 year ago
@Capn0bvious The ONLY thing we need to know is that you believe in the Bible. Since the Bible is packed full of contradictions, lies, mistruths and evil (condoning slavery, sending bears to ravage children, stoning children, etc...), it's quite OK and LOGICAL to assume that if someone believes in the Bible, they must be insane or on a power-mad trip of greed and manipulation (i.e. televangelists). 2+2 does not equal 5.

@HubbaBubba768 Wow, you just made a bible reader/believer sound way smarter than you....

I have no problems with theist or atheist.
I guess you can call me agnostic atheist, but I view atheist and theist equally.
Everyone has a right to beleive in what they want or dont want.
I beleive that their is a chance of their being a god, even if don't beleive
I also beleive that IF their is a god, then its most likely not even a god that we hear of in any of the religions of this world
Hell for all we know when we die we are born into another animal, possibilties are endless.
skater3shefik 2 years ago
You have a valid point, stereotypes are not helpful from either side of the discussion.
But I have read the bible, more than once, and am horrified by it. What is it that you found in there that convinced you that you should believe? Was a single bit of information or was it more? Either way, what convinced you to believe?
rohanwotan2 2 years ago
I actually grew up in the Catholic church, which pretty much turned me off to religion all together. It isn't because of the Bible that I believe but rather, in spite of it
A series of personal events involving what I would describe as "paranormal" activity led me to question the possibility of an afterlife, which extrapolated out into questions about the possibility of a creator.
I simply decided to ask God, if he existed, to reveal himself to me in whatever way he chose.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
I can only say (without going into very great detail) that over the last 15 years or so God has given me more than enough reason to trust that he exists, to my own satisfaction.
The Bible is best understood (IMHO), when only the words which are written in red ink are read and reflected upon. Christianity is entirely based upon Jesus Christ being the only way to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
So-called Christians who ignore the teachings of Jesus in favor of Old Testament laws, which were never meant for non-Jews in the first place, are just one of many problems which plague Christianity today.
I am simply a Christian, I don't belong to the "Christian religion". I just follow the teachings of Jesus and do the things that he told us to do. I (literally) help feed the hungry and clothe the poor and visit the sick and imprisoned.
That's the part of the Bible that I believe in.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
Well, like yourself I had been raised catholic, but by my early teens I knew that was an untenable philosophy for me. In my early 20's I figured out none of it made any sense and abandoned the lot.
From your writings, it sounds as if your belief/faith is based on personal experience(s) and that is certainly valid, perhaps the only valid reason to believe. Thanks for sharing and all the best to you and yours.

Capn0bvious 2 years ago
Here is a good quote for you. "Its important to have an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out."
I think for a guy that reads books by Carl Sagan and Dan Dennett would have figured this out.
You read some books, wow.
Ive read most of these books as well.. Including the bible. But i sure kept a healthy amount of skepticism. Peace
IJAiken 2 years ago
Well.... it's a quote, I'll give you that much.
I like mine better. Peace.

I like that quote too.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
@Capn0bvious just because I am a proud member of a group does not mean that I have to follow their religious views. That was a dumb statement on your part because their is much more my culture than religion.
nativenight 2 years ago
Perhaps you are confusing "race" with "culture". The only separation of traditional Kamloops culture and religion is in your mind. Every aspect of your traditional "culture" is defined by religion.
From the official Tk'emlups Band website:
Secwepemctsin Language of the Secwepemc
"Secwepemctsin contains the cultural, ecological, and historical knowledge which includes: values, SPIRITUAL BELIEFS, RITUALS, songs, stories, social and political structures and SPIRITUALITY of the people."
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
As the Secwepemc were given the land; they were also given a language. Language was given to the Secwepemc by the CREATOR for communication to the people and to the natural world."
Secwepemc Songs and Dances
"The songs, dances, stories, and CEREMONIES of the Secwepemc were, TRADITIONALLY, an INTEGRAL part of daily life; not separate as in many Western cultures. They were ABSOLUTELY VITAL in maintaining the values, SPIRITUAL BELIEFS, and teachings regarding care of the land and the people."
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
"The songs, dances, and CEREMONIES keep the Secwepemc tied to the land and they continually remind people of their responsibilities. "
"Secwepemc must sing and PRAY before harvesting any food, medicines, and other materials from the land. They must make an offering to thank THE CREATOR AND THE SPIRITS for anything they take."
"THE SECWEPEMC BELIEVE THAT ALL LIVING THINGS HAVE SPIRITS AND MUST BE SHOWN THE UTMOST RESPECT."
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
You are genetically a member of the Kamloops Band because you share DNA. By your own definition however, you reject traditional Kamloops culture.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago

I recommend reading 'The Great Divorce' for a sociological and philosophical approach.
lordkremlore 2 years ago
I agree completely. Besides being the best selling book of all time, the Bible is probably the most misunderstood, misinterpreted and misused book of all time.
Thanks for the comment and the recommended read.
Peace.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
I am an atheist, and I am currently reading the Bible, just to see where Christians are coming from. I have to assume that you are doing the same thing, because if you believed anything in those books you showed us, then it would clash horribly with your beliefs.
ElectromagneticToxin 2 years ago
Nope, doesn't clash at all. You have to understand that the Bible is metaphor, symbology, allegory and hidden esoteric meaning couched in simple, often ridiculous sounding language. The Bible itself says that it is a "paradox, a riddle and an enigma".
For a Christian, the only part of the Bible that truly has any relevance are the words in red, those spoken by Jesus Christ. The rest is over and done.
Read just the words in red if you want to see where a Christian should be coming from.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
If only every Christian thought like that. I get really pissed off with people who take the Bible literally. Good on ya mate. Of course the result of treating the Bible as a metaphor is that we get tonnes of crazy interpretations, some of which have really stuck.
ElectromagneticToxin 2 years ago
I agree about interpretations.
Peace!
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
I would hope that those 'commandments' are fundamental human morals, not based on the Bible. I agree with all those things, but I don't believe them because Jesus was meant to have said them, I believe them because I think that those morals need to be in place to help the human race reach its full potential as a global community.
ElectromagneticToxin 2 years ago
If those were fundamental human morals, our world would not be in the state that it's in.
Now, the question is this; do you merely "believe" in those principles or do you practice them every day of your life? Do you help feed the hungry? Do you volunteer at a homeless shelter or hospital? Is a regular part of your schedule devoted to service to others? Do you forgive your enemies and those who treat you spitefully?
I contend that those are not natural human morals that we are born with.

Whilst I don't know much about you, I respect your video. Well done - you certainly shocked me (but my frown turned into a smile within a few seconds). I'm an atheist, but I'm trying to become more well-versed and open-minded - mainly so I can have fair arguments and debunk theists with both logic and scripture, lol.
thegimprevolt 2 years ago
Thank you for your comments. I'm always glad to find an open-minded atheist.
It's not that hard to trip Christians up with scripture, because most of them have only a vague idea of what it even says, let alone what it all means.
The ones who know what it says mainly use it to rationalize their own prejudices. And the ones who know what it means are usually too busy doing what Jesus told them to do, to care about arguing with people over it.
Thanks again and peace.

Capn0bvious-presuming your show of books is not just 'show' and that you actually read such material, how can you justify a belief that the bible is the word of an invisible deity? Not being a wise ass to trying to start WW3 with you, just want to know how you can be methodical and rational one minute, then suspend it to swallow the blather of contradictions in the Bible
satan1st666 2 years ago
If you were to compile a history of scientific endeavor into one book, would you expect it to have no contradictions? Wouldn't you find early suppositions and assertions that were later proven to be completely incorrect by expanded knowledge and continual revelation of the true nature of things?
Likewise, do people automatically have even the vaguest understanding of the many complicated theorems and symbols of highly advanced mathematics upon first reading (or second or third or fourth)?
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
Would you think it is reasonable that someone should be able to read a physics textbook for the first time and understand it? Would they be correct if they simply declared it to be a meaningless bunch of gibberish and tossed it aside as worthless after only a cursory and superficial reading?
Or would you instead tell them that they need to pursue years of study and education in order for the complex symbology and confusing terminology to make sense and be applied properly?
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
Good illustration, but in the case of the Bible, since it supposed to be 'the word of god' (who is perfect, and without flaw), his instruction manual is the antithesis of that perfection. Yes, some the contradictions are minor, but many are major. How can any xtian justify a perfect god writing an imperfect book, with that god knowing full well the pain, and bloodshed that would ensue.
satan1st666 2 years ago
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it is the word of God or was written by God. It's simply says "all scripture is inspired by God and is useful for learning and instruction in righteousness" II Timothy 3:16
That's it, "useful"..... not indispensable. "Inspired by God".... not "the perfect word of God".
You are just perpetuating myths started by Christians themselves to justify their misuse of the Bible.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
OK, let's go further-for the purposes of this discussion, I'll assume we agree that god is flawless/perfect. Given that, and your previous statement of all scripture being 'inspired by god...', why would this perfect god allow continued errors from the inspiration process? He could very easily inspire the flawed writings to be corrected over time, resulting in a flawless book. Or at least one that wouldn't cause the needless (and known advance) deaths of millions of his beloved children.
satan1st666 2 years ago
@Capn0bvious "Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it is the word of God or was written by God. It's simply says "all scripture is inspired by God..." II Timothy 3:16"
You somehow missed 1 Peter 1:20,21...
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy NEVER came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."
Believe it all, OR start your own cult, by picking and choosing the verses you like...
11awp 1 year ago
Even understanding these complex formulas and equations, would you test them yourself? Would you strive to reproduce the results in your own lab, so that you can have the undeniable truth? Or would you simply believe it because it says so in the book?
Why would you look at one book any differently than the other? Why would you find it reasonable to expect years of study in order to understand one system and not the other? Why is it okay to dismiss one at first reading and not the other?
Capn0bvious 2 years ago

One of these days the real truth will prevail and you my friend will wake up one morning with your thumb up your ass.

donovanrules123123 2 years ago
The bible is written by men, it's a story with no very little truth and a bunch of made up events with no evidence to support the majority of it. The bible is not a single book, but is a collection of stories chosen by the catholic church, while they rejected others. There are many stories of gods - non of them are real. Why should I believe that your story is different?

christianity has bizarre things in it also...
like a person comeing back from the dead? If your going to judge science by what is logical and ilogical make sure you do the same on the bible. If you say that oh its not bizarre its god... what makes the bible the truth?
link40k 2 years ago
In our modern world, people are routinely brought back from the dead so I don't know why you would think it's such a bizarre concept.
In regards to the miracles he performed, Jesus asked people why they marveled at the things he did and told them that someday men would do the similar and even greater things. Lucky guess huh?
Bottom line, I don't care what you believe. You're welcome to believe what ever you want. What I find bizarre is why you care so much about what anyone else believes.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
when i say brought back from the dead you know what i mean..... look that guys been dead for serveral hours due to of blood loss... no way hes going to be brought back to life
and why i care so much is becuase its hraming the progression of the man-kind... restricting rights of homosexuals, giving people reason for killing, giving people a reason for war, restricting scienetific research, opressing other man, giving people a predisposition to dislike another for their beliefs.
and so on
link40k 2 years ago
Your answers are naive at best.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
The bottom line is this, it's ASSHOLES who do those things you mentioned; religious assholes, atheist assholes & just plain assholes in general.
To try and blame all of the world's problems on religion is just ignorant ,and ignorance isn't confined solely to religious people.
I suggest you read "The Irrational Atheist" by Vox Day if you want a more realistic picture of the religion vs. atheism debate.
At the very least you won't have ignorance as an excuse to bash other people's beliefs.
Capn0bvious 2 years ago
i understand that our history of many countries, includeing the US is founded behind religion. i can accept that. i can also accept that much of modern civilization has been the outcome of religious minds.
alot fo the money used to feed the hungry in africa through mother terrisa was never actually put forth to the starving, much was donated back to the church and never used for the correct purpose

benandtherest 2 years ago
First, you are laboring under the stereotypes of mainstream Christianity and I don't belong to that group.
Second, I have quite a collection of science books that go back 100 years or more. The contradictions that exist in those books, some of which are only a few decades apart in their publication, are laughable if not outright bizarre. The Bible is likewise a collection of books written many years apart and subject to contradictions caused by continual revelation of the truth.
